  1. As i found it in my car this morning i am telling you details so you could search online edition of Bangkok Post(te newsspaper you can trust, as they said).

    Here it is.

Bangkok Post, Tuesday, February 8, 2011. Cover page.

The news is with the blue background:" Army admits firing on ancient temple."

The name of Army spokesman who stated this is Sansern Kaewkamnerd. Rank Col.

Your earlier comment ("Thais admit they bombed, ruined one side of temple") isn't reflected in this article. They admit firing at Cambodian troops at the temple, and independent media have shown some damage from bullets. No bombing. Nothing ruined.

Yes, the article is online. Anyone wishing a direct link to it, please PM me and I would be happy to send it.

Yes, it was one of the articles that came up in my earlier search.

Yes, as it didn't fit the criteria of the news as had been earlier postulated (as per quote of the red reply below, which is a copy of Post # 15)

    Robby nz:

He has publicly stated that a wing of the temple has been destroyed by Thai fire.

    stepenwolf1958:

And Thais field admit it. Published in Bangkok Post. A few days ago.

It is not an admission by the Army for destroying one wing of the temple as had been posted.

Yes, the subtitle headline is as listed above, but no where in the article itself does it say that.

Yes, it is not "Chief Commander" that was speaking, but a Colonel acting as a Thai Army spokesman. The spokesman, Sansern, makes most of the Thai Army's announcements.

Yes, the only one reported to have actually said that a wing of the temple had been destroyed was the Cambodian Army spokesman, which has been reported on from numerous media sources.

    .

If you read the bangkok post printed edition. You will not find the same online. You find a small portion of the article. Also if you look at the online BP and 30 minutes later look at the same article it could be changed. Sentences can be dropped and changed. I thought thats why we are thaivisa members so we can discuss it and get near the truth without actually ever knowing the truth. :D

  2. It helps when their own people aren't armed.

Unfortuneatly only a small number of people know all the facts. So many conflicting stories. A brit citizen said I heard gunfire and a red shirt died in front of me. The govt said etc. etc. Too many questions left unanswered and the current coalition seems to be sitting on there hands, as i am sure if the opposition party was returned to power it would be the same. Seems to be orchestrated and probably in cahoots with each other. Maybe the poor will learn from Egypt and Tunisia and have their own revolution without the red, yellow, blue and pink shirts. I have heard many neutral and colours complain about rising prices of food and corruption, it is difficult for many to survive.

  3. An Australian businessman working in Bangkok, Adrian Lang, says, "Why should the Abhisit government resign? The economy here is among the best in the world."

That's precisely why Thailand deserves change. The economy here is booming and the vast majority of the people have not benefitted at all; quite the reverse, they are struggling to make their low wages stretch to the increasing cost of cooking oil and other staples.

The comparison with Tunisa and Egypt omits one huge detail. Egyptian and Tunisian Troops refused to fire on their own people. The Thai army had and has no such reservations and is completely behind the Ruling Elite. If a renegate officer (Seh Daeng) sides with the people he is assasinated.

WARNING: SHORT TERM MEMORY LOSS MAY BE AN EARLY SIGN OF ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE

Let me provide you with a few key words that may help you more accurately remember the events of April last:

Arisman -bring bottles for petrol bombs

    Military commander killed

    M-79 attacks

    Dead and wounded soldiers

    Thaksin

    hospital invasion

    RPG attacks

    We'll burn the city

    Central World

Red shirt confesses to M-79 and RPG attacks

    Terrorism charges

If that doesn't burn through the fog of "thai army shoots unarmed protesters" then you should consult a doctor post haste.:o

WARNING! Reading what is not written comes from laying onto many Lamingtons.

FACT Egyptian and Tunisian Troops refused to fire on their own people.:D

  4. What next?

The government won't be able to handle it, Its different fighting with another country as opposed to slaughtering your own civilians, the army will come out and say the government don't know how to handle it, and then fast forward to the coup that we all know is coming based on the reds coming back into power at the next election, and a desire by the elite to stop that at all costs.

Where did you get that crystal ball?

add Mara releasing all heck >>> it's documented in the last paragraphs.

    here >>> http://www.nationmul...y-30147875.html

He is a very confused poster.

The elite's trying to stop the red shirts.

What a laugh does he not know that the elites are where the red shirts get there money did he really think that it was gathered up in collections from the poor people they are supposed to represent.:jap:

Jay0JayO HoHoHo yes good laugh but you are more wrong than right. I have seen with my own eyes poor people give to the cause, and give to religions etc etc. when they have nothing themselves. Really astounding.

  5. "The Khmer are battle hard. They have fought a war till 15 years ago. They are holding the highland. Good luck with it. "

The high ground is all on the Thai side and if it came to a war the Cambodians would be slaughtered in days, get your facts right before letting your hatred for the country that you live in run away with you.

No hatred of Thailand on my part. I love the country and people, but YOU need to get a few things straight. First, the only "war" experience the Thai military has in recent history was the Thai-Lao Border War of 1988, in which the vaunted, and much superior Thai army invaded and took over village of Ban Romklao, only to be chased out that night by the Lao, a country whose entire population is about the same as BKK.

Cambodia has had years of fighting, with many well seasoned officers and troops, whereas Thailand has zero. And the fact that the Thai military is bigger and better equipped is NO guarantee of any victory. I'm an American, retired Marine, and 2 tour Vietnam vet, so I know exactly what I'm talking about in that. You also have to consider the fact that China has been, for a number of year now, pouring the latest weapons and weapons systems into Cambodia, and in any clash between Thailand and Cambodia, Vietnam and China will side with Cambodia, as would, most likely, Lao.

The Thai military looks great on paper, but armies don't win battles on paper, they win them in the field. In a contest between a large, untested military against a smaller, battle seasoned one, I'll put my money on the "little guy". So I would say your comments about it being a "slaughter" are somewhat delusional and highly overrated. Or perhaps you're merely suffering from the well known malady of "Thai Superiority" thinking.

Sorry to dissapoint you just1voice But this Army is by far superior. They have wonderful wands to detect bombs. they have brilliant airships for survelliance. And when they want to disperse a mob they take anti aircraft guns{which the mob took from them}. So maybe they could transport a Sub to the area to deal with the cambodians. But just be careful the brass do not shoot each other.

    :D:D

  6. From the DFAT website current at 5 October 2010.

    http://www.smartrave...Advice/Thailand

Once again it shows that the people in the Australian Embassy like many others in Thailand really have no idea what the lay of the land is in Thailand. I am appalled at how stupid these people are who work in Embassies in Bangkok. Thailand Govt should put out a Travel Advisory for Australia saying one should not fo into the outback because they might have issues with a few snakes!!

The people are just covering their dirty <deleted>!!!

Why attack the embassies? The world has been told by the thai government that there are some provinces still under emergency rule because of terrorists and terrorism activities. They do not need to get off their <deleted> they are being informed by the current government that Thailand/10 provinces are not safe. This current government are the most honourable, accountable and would never lie to the public, or another govt. But I am like you, the current govt are bending the truth a wee bit, not lieing mind you, you can go anywhere just use your common sense. But there should be a travel warning for the snakes, be aware of the snakes (they will fleece you, sure) including trouser snakes(LB).

    :):D:)

  7. way more than 2, gag, u betcha!

now? your saying the military promotions were from BJT's list? read this where plz???

\another thing, What is the date for the roster approval?

Nothing is as simple as they were form any individual party or non-party players list. The military reshuffle is always a compromise between power groups to keep each happy. However, it was Pravit the defenc eminister who put the picks forward and he is very much close to many of those picked himself. He is a possible choice to head up the BJT and with that comes the possobility of being next PM even in a Dem-BJT coalition. Of course all this is about possibilites but it does seem those controlling the game are making sure their harder rather than softer member are in control as changes loom and that would not auger well for Abhisit although he has shown a remakably good knack to at least survive in the game that few credited him with a year or so ago. All imho

So where does this leave Suthep? As the article says he is bigger then the PM.

  8. "An upgrade to a new province followed a request made by local residents as Nong Khai local authorities faced difficulties in managing administrative work and solving border problems in remote areas, 350 kilometres from the provincial seat.

350 kms is a long way. In oz correct me if I am wrong broome is about 4 times the distance approx 1400 kms from the provincial seat and the borders are a lot larger. And they have more than 1 million populations

  9. Amsterdam's whole career is built on creating lies, fabrications, internet creations and memes for his clients. That is all anyone needs to know. Period.

Glad to see you are taking a broad civilised view in the spirit of genuine inquiry.Actually Amsterdam wiped the floor with poor old Somtow whose Eton/Cambridge brain has probably atrophied in Thailand's intellectually stultifying atmosphere where fairy tales are taken at face value. Both contributions were loaded cases, but that's fair enough.Amsterdam like most PR men is not my cup of tea but your summary of his career is ridiculous. He is taken seriously for example by the admirable Charlie Rose (who can be seen on Bloomberg now, a rare oasis of civilised discussion on the telly)

Still it's sad to see you in this mode - not the fair minded person I remember. Are you really comfortable to be in the company of the feral posters with their inane bleating "two legs bad four legs good" approach?

Beg to differ. Not only is he being fair but he is also being generous. Why does that bother you?

IMO He is wrong about Amsterdam he should have said a lawyer's whole carreer is built on creating lies, fabrication, twisting facts...... etc. And IMO you could include politicians. The article by novelist tsow is exactly a humorous twisting of facts to give people a laugh of this difficult situation, mimicking a lawyer or politician.

  10. Actually, it is not relevant all what we on this forum think about Robert Amsterdam. What is relevant is how international opinion and the international courts view his comments.

The comments on this forum are just white noise

    Simon

TVF is part of, and may influence other, international opinion.

But what do the international courts care about his comments? No international courts are dealing with any Thai issues, are they?

Unfortunately not, there is a former political leader and a current political leader and his sidekick would more than likely be sharing a jail cell after the trial.

    :)

  11. As usual a very astute summation.

The worry is that those that have paid for position, will indeed, and In deeds, be quite will do do anything

it takes to realize their investment to get closer to the trough and not accept the net loss.

It has been amazing to watch Abhisit square off against his own partners when the over reach,

the police pay for position SOP practices, and the entrenched education bureaucracies.

These are in general the main problems for the country, and he has taken hard to win position on these issues

with some success, and more than some making of new enemies in the process. From those same profiteers

who don't want their personal golden geese stunted in growth and egg laying futures foreshortened.

I can't blame them for feeling that way, but also can't see how their hopes can be allowed to be realized

in the long run if Thailand is to go forward for ALL Thai's not just those with connections, and co-joined

moral deficits, to continue to cream off the profits at the expense of all their fellow countrymen.

Mostly what you say is quite correct. Abhisit may have had some success in some of the big contracts, but the other people are paying 3 times as much to collect what they have lost at the top end.

  12. Say what you will about Mr Thaksin, but if the current government had "trusted the people" as much as he has consistently been willing to, the hundred men and women who died because Mr Abhisit did not feel sufficiently confident in his electoral prospects would still be alive today.

As would be the witness in a case against Thaksin in Chang Mai some years ago who was murdered just prior to the trial of Thaksin which was then cancelled and all charges dropped due to, ''lack of evidence.''

As would a large number of innocent men women and children who were slaughtered in the ,''war on drugs,'' instigated by Thaksin without any person being subjected to the due course of law, only the rule of lynch law.

As would be a prominent Muslim lawyer too, that is just the tip of the iceberg of Thaksins abuse of the Thai people

Amsterdam you should go back under the stone and into the primeval sludge you and your kind belong to, nasty little money grubbing maggots who delight in profiteering from the misery of others , Amsterdam you failed in Russia you are a born again distorter of the truth who is possibly one of the worlds leading con artists.

    - 2005: His client, Mikhail Khodorkovsky is sentenced |to 8 years in prison.

    - 2005: Arrested in Moscow on September 22nd, he is forced to leave the country.

    - August 2008: His request |to gain Khodorkovsky's |freedom is rejected.

    - May 2010: Hired as international counsel to former PM Thaksin Shinawatra.

Thaksin has a brief with a track record like that, well he doesn't need enemies does he !!!

I do not understand why you dislike only Thaksin you point out his drug war, and 2 allegations, there could be many more we do not know about. siam polee does that mean a politician and you are on an opposing party? why do you not dislike Abhisit and some of his cronies for their shortcomings in the murder of the Rohingya, the assisted murder of Hmong and slaughter of protesters and the many many missing and injured on those occasions. Neither of these people have anything to be proud of. Then you could also include the neglect of both of these people and their predecessors of the police force and other agencies, that allow so many unsolved murders and unneccessary road deaths etc. IMHO the scorecard of both these men should be zero but both are horrendous.

  13. Give IA direct access to check bank accounts and assets of them and immediate family on complaint or suspicion.

The IA may find away to have lots of assets and bank accounts, The corrupt cops could end up broke. But that could lead to huge payoff to get a job with the IA, or more killings. At the moment it is like a merry go round and the last 3 months is like out of control. The govt and there police counterparts must be doing alright. hope it is all going to help the country and its people!

    :):D:)

  14. There should be financial rewards for members of the public who can provide information about corrupt officials and automatic jail sentences of no less than two years plus prohibition on further being employed as a government official for life. The whole transfer to a less active position makes a mockery of any attempt to stamp out corruption.

Sadly, I am sure they could find a way of making money out of that. You would probably end up the honest officials being charged with bribery, while the civilan is collecting the reward and sharing it with his corrupt friends.

    :)

  15. Well done DSI. Keep it up. Put Thaksin in jail.

As well as those couple of other PTP's and a couple of Democrats and that bhumjai, and the people who towed the rohingya out to see, and the people who had the innocent killed in the war on drugs, and the people authorising the return of the hmong, and the murderers of the foreigners, red shirts, army personell, seh daeng etc. and the people with extra assets. We could start a whole forum on the injusticesor blatant differences. Before it was ok the rich and the poor. This time it is rich against rich and all sides will use the poor for there own advantage, with no thoughts or regrets for anyone but themselves. Hopefully Karma will get each and everyone of them.

  16. Guess your aware that there are many small 'clinics' across Bangkok where the 'doctor' is not qualified and the other staff on premises are not trained / have no medical knowledge.

Yes the medical council and yes the health minitry know they exist (they have existed for decades) and yes they do nothing about it.

Go to a hospital, better chance your in the hands of properly trained staff.

You could add Phya Thai 1 and Phya Thai 2 to the list, both a little less expensive than BNH and Bumrumgrad.

Are you serious. I heard pharmacy will sell you drugs that require prescriptions. and if the bib catch you. you will get done but the person you bought them off. nothing not even made aware of selling prescription drugs without a prescription to someone that has been nabbed. One more thing learned today.

  17. For what you will require while in Thailand, it's very safe , as previous members have mentioned some area's etc ,so I will I, it's as safe as travelling at night on a train or buss in Perth city, West Australia, probably more safer.

Wow thats a big call. When I was in perth they had many african/negroes on the train every night. they were so friendly. I didn't try the bus though.

But sure when travelling be careful ask around before you go to far from the hotel.

  18. Three days back it was 26 suspects , now they've indicted 24, plus the chief bozo, what happened to the other 2, I guess they are still being investigated , i smell a rat .

    26 suspects

    24 indicted

    +1 chief bozo

    = 25

1 was killed (Maj General Khattiya "Seh Daeng" Sawasiphol )

    = 26

Major-General Khattiya Sawasdipol, alias Seh Daeng, who was on the original list of 26 suspects, was shot dead at a demonstration site on May 15.

Looked more like premeditated an unarmed men.

  19. I hope the law here actually carries out some serious sentencing. Sooner the better...

I hope the law starts chasing the leaders of all parties for anything criminal, they have done, and checking bank accounts of all party members and government officials. And we all know Thaksin has done some dastardly deeds, but there are a few there that make him look like an angel. And as we all know the serious sentencing will come later than sooner unless you.

has anybody heard anymore about the foreigner that was charged for violating the emergency decree?

    :)

  20. Pot. Kettle. Black

I am not so sure about the black. RED In this term the Democrats have achieved greatly. Spend our time chasing Thaksin, Thaksin and Thaksin cannot nail the fugitive so we will try to get him out start on the red shirts. Thai kill Thai. We are not amarat but we will have a dinner for reconciliation and the commoners that serve us, can crawl on their hands and knees to serve us. They started on Thaksin instead of never mentioning him and now they have made a rod for there own back. No matter how people think he does not have a huge following, he does. And to throw him in the limelight instead of going about there jobs, the democrats and Thailand will never win. I did notice that some of the democrats went to court to have newin chidcob released. my apologies Mr newin it was Mr Veera..

    :D

  21. Yep - more brainwashing by the reds leadership and having kids do their dirty work. Then when the kids get incarcerated the parents go up against the 'system' and back reds - all well manipulated by the offshore greed brokers. Stupid way to get votes! Will it ever end?

Will it ever end? Well, as long as there are ignorant people around with your kind of attitude it will never end.

Thumbs up to these students! Only dead fish swim with the stream. The country needs young people that can think critically and don't just repeat government propaganda.

    or redshirt propaganda....

I thought Red Shirt Propaganda was closed down, I cant find any. I have had to tune back to the yellow shirt propaganda. Too me it doesn't matter the three make me laugh.

  22. Quote "The prime minister said his government would exercise its right to protest, and did not want to see the dispute develop into a war," Panthep said.

He met the yellow-shirt leaders for two hours after about 1,000 PAD supporters rallied outside the Unesco office on Sukhumvit Road despite the emergency decree

Now 1,000 red shirt rally about the unfair prices for farmers and the huge profits for the middlemen.

I bet you never look in the mirror. Time to take a good hard look at yourself.

  23. The Red shirt leaders and opposition to the govt maybe charged with terroism as some of the yellow shirt leaders have. Why is only one lot in a holiday camp? Both Mobs sprouted rhetoric. I have seen no youtube or video of the Y/R leaders active in terrorism. When the red shirts were attacked they caused a major riot just like has happened the world over. They will be hard pushed to find anyone guilty of terrorism.
