  1. if you use the well-known one on Soi Post in Patts be aware that you'll need a Bangkok Bank account. if you don't have one already they can expedite it at the nearest BBL branch, for a fee of course, most of which is the cost of the insurance policy.
  2. do you have any idea of the volume of business the "well-known" agents do? if not I recommend a visit to Soi Post in Patts for a wee look. they need a dump truck to transport all the passports to immi ????
  3. that's all part of the charm of living here. God forbid that it becomes like Singapore. what a fine city that is ????
  4. pedestrian crossings are dangerous bro, you know there's a very good chance that one or more vehicles won't stop so pointless trying to blame the coppers. caveat emptor and all that. I've used them occasionally in Bangkok but only with extreme caution, ie. not passing a stopped car until I've poked my head out and checked for oncoming vehicles that look like they might not want to stop. that still doesn't guarantee I won't get cleaned up by a speeding motosai that might pop out from behind a van or a bus. what amazed me was that each time I used the crossings the other, mostly Thai, pedestrians just looked straight ahead as if the green walk signal gave them some kind of invisible force field.
  5. he was probably sent to a re-education camp by his apologist local council. 1st lesson: how be tolerant to intolerant people that have a "God" given mission to supplant your culture with their own, in 3 easy steps.
  6. in my part of Bankstown it is much higher than 12%. I lived there from 1976 to 2021 so it's not like I'm just making sh!t up. but hey, believe what you want to believe. the day I left was the happiest day of my life.
  7. indeed. I fled the Islamic Republic of Bankstown* for the comfortingly xenophobic arms of Buddhist Thailand. ps. I knew nothing about Islam until I spent some time in Indonesia, mostly Jakarta. I had no preconceived notions but found out the hard way that there's nothing benign about it. and Indo's not even the real deal so I shudder to think what's is like in the homeland of that repugnant ideology. * a city in South-West Sydney that is being overrun by Lebanese Muslims.
  8. it's not that good!
  9. he did the same on the subject of dual passports. according to him you can't swap passports in the air because "I had a diplomatic passport and it wasn't allowed". PTL that I don't work for this man! ????
  10. it's fine as it is. if it ain't broke...
  11. oh that poor family! I first encountered that sort of thing way back in 1997 on my first trip to SEA. a mate and I flew BNE-DPS on Royal Brunei Airlines and the sheila at the check-in desk point blank refused to board us without an onward ticket from Indo. we had tickets from Bangkok to India but that was apparently no good. so I was forced to pay for two expensive Qantas tickets from Medan to Penang. naturally we were stamped in to Bali without any nosy questions. it took 18 months to get the refund and I had to visit multiple offices in Bali, Singapore and Sydney. it was a good learning experience I guess but geez I'm glad I don't have to go through all that <deleted> nowadays.
  12. imho this is the simplest option and the easiest and quickest to explain to people that ask the question. do they really need to know all the whys and wherefores of the somewhat convoluted subject? so yeah, I'm not sure why the OP has beef with that approach when it's offered as advice on here. it's certainly a lot less stressful than arguing with a supervisor as he has subsequently suggested even though the stated purpose of his post was to relieve peoples' alleged stress ????
  13. funny you should mention that because way back in 2014 I flew Emirates from SYD-BKK I did exactly that and went to the gate to wait for boarding. to my surprise they called my name out over the Tannoy and when I went to the desk to see what was up they scolded me for not checking in at the airside counters. this was not mentioned at any time during the booking or online check-in process. I told them that but they said something to the effect of "ignorance is no excuse". you can't argue with that at the airport.
  14. I'm currently using FTX International to sell my crip to USD then I use their USD fiat withdrawal facility to wire it to my Wise account. then I send to my Bangkok Bank (BBL) account. I could wire it straight to BBL but I save a couple bucks via Wise, enough for a couple cans of beer.
  15. *farang. there, I fixed it for you ????
  16. bar girls are "working girls".
  17. https://airlines.iata.org/analysis/document-verification-travel-trouhttps://airlines.iata.org/analysis/document-verification-travel-trouble you're welcome!
  18. if that works for you then more power to you. I'll likely forget to cancel the ticket because so excited to be back in Thighland ergo rent-a-ticket is my go-to. doesn't mean I'm dense, diff'rent strokes and all that.
  19. correct. airlines get fined if they deliver pax that don't meet the destination country's entry requirements. plus they're responsible for repatriation etc so it makes sense for them to pre-screen pax at check-in. my understanding is that there is an IATA database they look up that tells them what the requirements are. many reports here of members being asked for onward tickets. myself most recently as December last year ex-SYD on TG. it's unclear why some people don't get asked and some do so there's no point speculating. YMMV as they say in the States.
  20. every time I've flown SYD-BKK visa exempt I've been asked for onward flight at check-in. I believe you live on the Goldy so you'd be ex-BNE. I guess they're a bit more relaxed up there. you got lucky, buy a lottelee ticket.
  21. nah that was me, sorry! i was just trying to help the OP as a stopgap measure because it was late and there was noone else about. I think I put a disclaimer to that effect in my post.
  22. yes, I tip. from 20 to 100 baht depending on how I feel at the time. even if there's already a 10% service charge included. why? because I can.
  23. plenty of WRXs, HSVs, EVOs and Hilux utes mate but no IQs ????
