  1. well then, you have absolutely no idea what the OP is talking about. do you even know what bloatware is?
  2. why so you say that? is rooting not a "thing" for cheap phones? I stopped rooting my phones because a lot of critical apps wouldn't run on them despite using Root Cloak et al. banks etc don't normally support rooted devices. p'raps the OP could ask the question on xda-developers as that's the hub of rooting knowledge. not all devices are supported, you need devs that support the model and supply the necessary files etc
  3. there's too many dropkicks over here so after a while I guess it becomes easy to tar all farang with the same brush. I don't really like meeting new white boys here because you never know what sort of insanity is going to come spewing out at any given time ????
  4. I love Thailand but they are woeful with seafood. they could learn a thing or two from their southern neighbours and get some proper ikan bakar going.
  5. but you already said yes, ie. the Vientiane route. OP didnt say that he wants to do it in-country, just that he doesn't want to use bank transfer method.
  6. yes, so why the scaremongering? OP seems to already be aware of the cash import rules. and as you pointed out he can deposit funds at presumably preferential exchange rate then go to Vientiane for the non-O. or maybe 2 X 45+30 visa exempts, would that work? the forex fees on US$30k might be enough to cover the expense of a border bounce at wherever is nearest to Phuket.
  7. but he's not intending to bring in more than $10k at a time so he doesn't have to worry about declaring it ????
  8. you watch too many movies. how is anyone going to know that the OP has a chunk of change in his bumbag?
  9. riddle me this Batman ... what are green plates and blue plates? I've seen these a few times on vehicles that rock up to my condo. the blue plate was on a BMW 745 that looked like it was a limo of some sort. it had a low number on the plate, single digit iirc. plus a wee flagpole on the front left of the vehicle but it wasn't flying any flag. a diplomatic vehicle maybe? or a super-expensive Bolt? ????
  10. yeah not that smart at all but it was still pretty cool. I wish I had the skill and the guys to try that at least once. my only thrill is Lumphini to the KSR on the back of a Bolt taxi motosai. although I did a long trip to Central Bang Na the other week on the back of an electric scooter whilst it was threatening to rain. driver went the back way to avoid the Suk and I got to see the butt-end of Bangkok. it was quite the adventure. p'raps our Canadian buddy should have started off the main roads eh?
  11. looks fine to me. I think you should see someone about your paranoia, Thailand ain't the place to be carrying around such baggage. be cautious, yes, but don't jump at shadows <deleted>!
  12. yes there is. it's pointless and boring and serves only to show that you lost The Game. what the OP should have said was "I hate myself because I'm unable to adapt to the local conditions because despite being on this earth for three-quarters of a century I've learnt nothing. please halp."
  13. so why is say, Hopf House on Beach Road, wall-to-wall with Thai customers on the weekends?
  14. why is Soi Dogs and do the bars there have a happy hour?
  15. geez that's a long way away. according to Nige and Neeranam I'll be in gaol by then because I used an agent for my retirement visa ????
  16. so kee niaow. markets turned against you?
  17. I've heard about this place for a while but never been. your shout? ????
  18. Kampot was a cute little place when I went there in 2018. would love to spend more time there but I don't know if it would hold my interest for too long. there were some nice little places to eat and the river is very pretty but I'm not really a small town guy so if I ever ditch Thailand for the Bodja I'd be looking at dividing time between Phnom Penh and other places.
  19. why do you say they? too many mosques and kretek cigarettes? ????
  20. why strangely? I plan on spending some time there in the future as I have some bule mates who live there. Bali's a great little place and easy to avoid the bogans if they upset you that much. they don't worry me too much because I'm a bit of a bogan myself ????
  21. of course I did, I just didn't come to the same rediculous conclusion that you did. those costs are part of the hotel's normal operating budget and and are defrayed over many years. I suspect that they quote such silly prices so as to put the fear of God up their customers so that they'll take extra care of the keys. replacing them ten times a day can't be particularly pleasant. but actually charging the penalty? that's just a wee bit silly and will lose them goodwill and repeat custom.
  22. howdy. yes you can convert from visa exempt to non-O. here's a thread that covers the basics. have a read and then come back here with any additional questions or any points for wish to be clarified. https://aseannow.com/topic/1273366-exempt-to-non-o-retirement-in-pattaya/
  23. Thailand has no morals. That's why I love the place and is why I moved here at 52 rather than festering for the rest of my life in the supposedly squeaky clean but actually deeply corrupt West. me paying a few baht for a retirement visa has absolutely zero effect on the moral fabric of the Kingdom. the Merc-driving boys in their fancy uniforms call the shots, not me or any other insignificant farang (including the naturalised ones lol)
  24. apparently the "new boss" at Jomtien wants it done that way now, but that's all I'm saying on unsecured comms ????
