  1. correction: got caught fishing at a National Park. oh wait, he dobbed himself in by yakking all about it on Twitter didn't he. what's the first rule of Parrotfish Club? ????
  2. doesn't the OP, or his agent, just check the check the "DRIVING LICENSE (CAR/MOTORBIKE)" box? I'm pretty sure I've read on here before that the residence certificate is a generic document and doesn't state the purpose for which it will be used. if course I can't find the previous thread.
  3. I'll second that, not that it should be necessary. old mate's talking through his hat, maybe he's gone a bit doolally from leaving confused emojis on every other post ????
  4. inb4: why would you want to go the KSR in the first place it's full of hippie backpackers. ewwww!
  5. why go on holiday to a foreign country just to pick holes in the place? neo-colonialism much? unfinished roadworks etc is all part of the charm of the place. if you want perfection then stay at home in Utopia. or go back there if it all gets too much, nobody's holding a gun at your head.
  6. why not Raffles Homestay, 490 Northbridge Road? that's very cheap. they call it Cosy Corner now, can't think for the life of me me why ????
  7. I thought the OP was some kind of investment wunderkind so why is he moaning about the price of Maccas in Thailand? ps. had a double Quarter Pounder with Cheese the other day. 100% Aussie beef mate. it was aroi mak. not as good as the Aussie Wagyu cheeseburger at the Roadhouse Barbecue* but still very tasty. I don't really care what it cost because I'm not povvo. *cnr Surawong and Rama See
  8. foreigners who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. tell me the name of their home country and I reckon I could scare up something negative about that place in a few seconds.
  9. not nice when the boot's on the other foot hey YT? ????
  10. maybe you meant it to be humorous but it comes across as very condescending. especially the "to my utter surprise" bit. don't give up your day job ????
  11. at least Somchai had a crack at it. kudos to old mate.
  12. correct, the base rate is set by MasterCard and can be obtained using the website that was posted earlier. banks and merchants can of course add on any type of fee they deem fit and they don't necessarily have to disclose the exact percentage. or they can apply a surcharge that is higher than the merchant fee charged to them by MasterCard. so the effective rate can be much less favourable. however, in my recent experience of using an Australian-issued VISA debit card on Lazada, no additional fees were added by the merchant or Lazada. the only difficulty I had was that some local merchants don't accept foreign cards, presumably because the merchant fee is much higher (MC can take 3% or higher).
  13. yes they can be like that but unfortunately that's the only way we'll know exactly what rate you can expect to get. can you tell us the name of the bank and the specific card type? hard to be of much further use without that. or maybe attach the PDF?
  14. oops I looked at the wrong airport. B1,200 is from Swamps not Donnie M. thanks for the pickup. at any rate, B1,400 is a fantastic price for such a long trip. and since the OP will be on the road around 5pm then he can pick up some travellers on the way to his digs. I hate being on the bus and not having access to a cold tinnie ????
  15. check the T&Cs from your card provider. if it's someone like CommBank then you'll get hit with a 3% fee on top of the MasterCard rate. heck, they'll stiff you this fee even if the purchase is in AUD. they do this when they detect that the merchant is offshore.
  16. imho it's best to pre-book a private car from one of the many services that are available online. I've done the cheap charlie stuff in the past, and the taxi queue, but there's simply nothing like clearing immi and having some dude with your name on a piece of paper waiting for you at arrivals. I'm not sure what you mean by Ride-share. are you referring to Grab or Bolt? if so then I'd expect them to be more expensive than a private car plus you're giving 30% of the fare as commission to Grab/Bolt. if you mean a minivan my advice would be just don't do it, those things are evil. private car should only be B1,200 or so which is ridiculously cheap for a hundred mile trip.
  17. only silly people come a cropper of the lèse-majesté laws here. there's no reason to bring it up unless you've got an axe to grind. as for corruption in Australia well I think you should take a closer look at the place. corruption isn't simply the paying of bribes and embezzling of funds. I'd give you examples but the last time I did that the response was "oh that's alright for that ripoff to happen, it's just business" ????
  18. I bumped into a farang in Banana at Central who overheard the staff telling me they didn't have what i wanted. he offered to give me a ride to some magic place where everything was allegedly available. I had to make him repeat the name twice before I clicked that he was talking about Tukcom. he was pronouncing it as "dah calm" ???? I guess he never bothered to looks at the great big sign on top of the building.
  19. hyperbole much? that's simply not true and you know it. if you're going to criticise the place at least get your facts straight.
  20. imho you'll only encounter that sort of stuff here if you go looking for it. or you're poor and can't grease the wheels. or have a chip on your shoulder about "corruption" even though the place you just came from is corrupt as all get out but is hidden to the average Steve-o.
  21. Australia's not improving, it's devolving. thanks in part to the rednecks but also the newcomers. this is why I left the godforsaken part of Sydney that I was living in... https://www.news.com.au/national/nsw-act/crime/two-women-found-dead-after-shooting-in-southwest-sydney/news-story/d13d6ca80f6a35fea3dca6231095d615
