I personally know a few Thai ladies who complain that they get quoted stupid prices when they try and take a taxi home from work. that's in addition to the many reports I've read over the years of Thai people raising the issue of overcharging, refusal to use the meter or refusal to take them to their destination because "rot thit"

Thailand is only cheap if you live in the bush and eat bugs and grubs. If you want a proper lifestyle it costs a lot of money. Probably not equal to Australian costs because accommodation costs are out of control there, but pretty close. But hey, if you're like Sparktrader/Susan and think that 60 baht noodles are haute cuisine then have at it.

I've only been to Cambodia a couple of times and for less than a week each time (1998 and 2018) so I don't know it that well. I'm just going by what a few of my friends have told me. I'm not into the P4P scene anymore so I don't care to keep up with changes. I just think it's sad that so many Western man get on their high horse about other guys who indulge. Especially when you find out that they're on very limited budgets and therefore aren't contributing very much to the local economy but think they're knights in shining armour.

What's not to love, are you serious? Taxi mafia, dual pricing, filthy streets that smell like a sewer, soi dogs, poor service, ignorance, corruption, ridiculous beer and wine prices, tiered pricing at hospitals. You're insane if your consider those things to be "great".
