I live in Khao Lak. Usually it is not so bad in May, sunny in the morning and possibly a shower somewhat later in the afternoon. Pleasant time to go there, the big masses of tourists have left.
Good to hear, thanks a lot! No big exceptions from this rule? Would really like to visit Khao Lak.
What about restaurants and shops, are they all open during rain season?
Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
Quite limited shops and restuarants along the Khao Lak strip at the best of times. Many close in the rainy season April - November.
agreed, last count ,there was only 166 restaurants in khao lak.how limited is that

hi,being here in LOS for many years,i have learnt that some foreigners are worse than the natives when it comes to rip off. But,one guy just keeps ripping folk off, then re emerges smelling of roses. There has been satire on you tube about him,
and he is well known in phuket. It seems,he has done it again,i am sure i cannot name him for legal reasons, but i hope this next link helps. The police are looking for him again. One day,he really will go too far. -
House & Home is mostly low quality stuff.
Not all, but most.
Not true, i do not buy rubbish and am happy with their products and service
You get what you pay for, if you only buy the cheapest item thats the purchasers problem
Ask the staff what they recommend, that usually works
went there too,the coloured fronts for plug sockets,no have, only 2

In the grand scheme, I wouldn't bat an eyelid. I have a brain [strange, I know] and capable of planning ahead. I search the internet high and low and invariably find what I want with minimal fuss.
i to have a brain, but,i do like to see what i order, quality etc.i also like to shop around.but,i do not like it,when they have it on display ,they do not have it in stock,is all i am saying.i am not new here,i do speak Thai, and phoning to ask is just not an option.

4 hour wait???
I would have attempted to bribe the volunteers after 45mins, failing that I would have driven to Krabi. Much nicer in immigration there
phang nga immigration are happy to see farangs =)
Where is the immigration at Phag Nga? or are you talking about Krabi?
hi,phang nga is clearly sign posted,do not enter phang nga, continue on the road to krabi,1km,turn left and then left at next traffic lights, always easy there.

make sure than u have a copy of the TM as that's what they check more than anything.
I have been asked a few times for my passport in Thailand in the past few years when i give them my drivers license an just tell them its at home.
never been refused to be allowed to check in
Also if push comes to shove, i always travel with laptop an have copy of my passport on it
hi,we scanned our passports, down sized them and printed them in card form and laminate.it looks like an id card but it is your passport details.i have lived here a while, and to be honest cant remember having a problem showing DL,and now this too.

just got CTH installed, seems like a good set up,took the 2 year option, funny thing happened when we were on the phone to bkk, trying to sort it out.the woman asked how big the TVs were,as we explained they were for the bar.thought about it,and rang back, asked why the question on size, because, she said,it is 1500b a year for the copyright,to show in public, but that 56 inch or more, screen for example,is 3000b a month.you can pay locally for the sticker.just to let anyone using them in public, you can get this option.
-
hope the price will be ok in a few years when our field are ready for tapping
i sell beer in my bar for 60b a bottle, but in patong it is 100B,it is only fair the govnt pay me the difference . HUMOUR

How about getting a bag with a lock or buy a small padlock to secure the case.
Not exactly rocket surgery is it?
actually, you cannot lock a suitcase with a lock,or,not effectively.the safest way to travel is to wrap the lock in black tape and clingfilm the bag.this scam has been going on for years.to the point,if i have guests arrive from bangkok by bus,i ask them to check thier bags, twice in the last 3 years, the customer has had stuff stolen.the idea with the tape and clingfilm is,you can tell right away if someone has tampered with your bag.take a look at this.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpIJVWXsBBI

ah just caught up on this again!
If Bobbytin gets the second year for 15,000 baht that's a good deal for Astro, although it depends on which channels in the line up
Based on my experience on Samui, you guys in Phuket area are not a big difference in latitude, I think you'd be better with a 90 cm dish... especially with the HD set up!
hi jimmy,it is up and running,i went for sport, kids, including Disney, discovery channels and news, all working fine and happy with the guy you put me in touch with, thank you.

OK, we're in the process of having CTH installed today, via Phuket Cable. The cost is 962 baht/month inclusive of 7% VAT. There are discounts (actually 'free' months) based on paying up front for longer periods. An example is paying 899/month for 24 months up front (21,576 plus VAT), and getting an extra 12 months free (hence equivalent to 599/month for 36 months). The cost of a HD box is 2 months rent for existing customers, 2 months rent plus 2000 baht for new customers. Phuket Cable (so they're telling us) are the only cable company in the area authorised by CTH, and the only company that have boxes.
HD channels (including the new EPL channels) are included, except if you don't have a box you're obviously not going to get them.
Boxes have to be obtained from Phuket Cable in their office and self installed.
thanks for this, but i live in khao lak,and the guy authorized to install CTH is not a very active kinda guy, maybe 7 days, you come back, but maybe more.the demand for a supplier with a IQ higher than a pencil up here is high.be great to hear how CTH performs, and are the channels english also.

25,000 for year one, then 15,000 pert year after... WOW!!
Having dumped cable (Rawai) and satellite (True) a few years back I find that price stunningly high for what's available (yes I know Astro's selection is better).
I'm now a torrent junkie and free from cable/satellite's csi/law and order-fest! I now watch Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Downton Abbey, etc within twelve hours of my NA/Euro compatriots in full high def.
Live sports (MotoGP, F1, NHL ice hockey, rugby) all from free web feeds.
Cut the cable guys you're getting milked!
25000 is still cheaper than true platinum, streaming sport is hit and miss. 2000b a month, for what we get is fair. CTH would be great,if i can find anyone with the damn boxes.i dnt need tv or movies,i need, sport ,discovery channels, and cartoons.

HI,just to update, the feedback i have gotten from suppliers,is the same as madmitch, that the Vietnam set up will not be there for much longer, after a recommendation from samuijimmy,i have gone for the Astro package,25,000b for the first year,15k a year, after that.also 3 sets from CTH,but ,they need chasing,as of yet,we are still waiting, there is also one other point, copyright,if you contact CTH in bkk, they have a separate deal ,she said, for public use,not much different in price.just hope they get their act together, thank you for the feed back and the help.

hi,nang thong areas does have a few places for rent,up the road, past banana resort,6 to 10k a month.bang niang is cheaper, and if you get here before the seasonal divers arrive, you should find something,i know of a 2 bedroom house, not far from bang niang market 8k.remember ,khao lak diving is a seasonal thing,so oct to april, after that your boyfriend will have to find something to do,unless you are seasonal workers too. Here is nothing like phuket, for many reasons, and is not for everyone. But good luck on your move, welcome to Khao lak.If i can help, message me.
