  1. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. File sharing servers have been targeted by Astro and shared smart cards have apparently all been terminated.

I wasn't going to renew anyway as I only use it for sport, mainly football, and that's moving to CTH. I'm a convert to Thaiexpat.tv for the rest of my viewing.

Bobbytin, if it's the football you need I would suggest you search for threads regarding the Premier League on cable/CTH satellite in Thailand.

hi madmitch,i need mostly rugby,Setanta, football ,formula 1 and cartoon channels,i have a kids corner.thank you for the advice

I have signed up for CTH for 3 years and had the satellite system installed last week. I can confirm that they have 6 dedicated HD channels (131 - 136) reserved for the start of the EPL, about 10 channels for the children (some in HD) and Fox Sports Plus HD, Fox Sports, Fight Sports, Star Sports, Thai sports and Tsports. I watched MotoGP (qualifying and race) last Sunday and Monday mornings. Formula 1 is being advertised for this coming weekend, including practice sessions 1, 2 and 3, the qualifying and the actual race. I am not sure about the rugby - I think I have seen some advertised on one of the channels. Its a very good picture with some 30 channels in HD and quite a good on-screen interactive programme guide. For 599 baht per month (3 year subscription) enjoy!

  2. You can point your dish to Vinsat 1 and get many English channels or you could go to Asiasat 3 and there are are many English programs news and movies

thanks for that, but are these channels not locked.i will give it a go.cheers

  4. Mine is still on, thumbsup.gif perhaps your subscription has run out? There is no warning on that... so just go down and pay the bill...I assume you use a local shop to do that?

You'll get charged a reconnection fee, so good idea to make a note for when due next year.

I can't see how they can turn it off in Thailand either.

hi samuijimmy,no mate,i paid for the year, for 3 boxes only last month.i have got the name of 1 supplier,is your supplier here in phuket or samui.??

  5. If you have a legit astro box and have paid your bill, I don't see how they can "turn off Thailand".

i will be happy to pay whatever for a legit box,but where can i do that.i know mine was not,i did not know there was an alternative.

  6. hi,Astro has been turned off in Thailand, according to the supplier, anyone know of an alternative please.I know it was dodgy and not forever.but it was the better of the other options.

  7. Rhekthum.

That must be the arse end of NST then!!

Things have gotten a little hairy here on a couple of occasions.

sounds like a hole to me.

  8. Other than Bangkok Phuket the only private eye clinic I know is near the clock tower roundabout on the road that runs down to Immigration. From the roundabout it's the about the 4th shop on the left. Very good eye doctor IMHO.

i looked for one,but could not see it.

  9. Eezergood, just get the show on the road, pick a date and a venue. Ideally it should be a place which is big, but normally quiet. Don't worry about maybe few people turning up, if nobody else comes I will buy you a beer. Any location is cool for me as long as there are hotels near by, I will need one.

i would make one in,low season here,so loads of time.
    Is that an offer?

    yes

  12. UK? 12 month multi entry Non-immigrant O from Hull consulate. Visa run every 90 days.

    1. Visiting Thailand as Pensioner aged 65 and over.

    Evidence required:

    1. Bank Statement or Pension Statement showing receipt of State and/or

      Private Pension.

Either a single or multiple entry visa can be granted in these circumstances.

yes,he is british, thank you for the quick reply

can he come in with a one way ticket,or does he have to have an outgoing flight. i dont think they do 1 year open anymore,do they???

  13. To put the record straight, I am not a troll or paid spokeperson for the Phuket property market. I have zero current business in Phuket, but some in Bangkok (completely unrelated to property). I can see that this subject is rather emotive - there is a broad range of views which presumably means different people have had very different experiences. No doubt if I lived in Phuket I would have some scar tissue from various bad things happening. One of the challenges of spending time anywhere in Thailand is that the good bits are just brilliant but the bad bits drive you crazy in a way that few other countries manage. It is a somewhat crazy dysfunctional kind of a place that delivers sublime and dire experiences.

I dont think my comments are totally naieve although I have no knowledge of coercive action taken to secure property for beach clubs and the like. For all of us who live/work/visit Thailand we know we sup with the devil somewhat - rampant corruption etc, but I sense it is getting better year by year. I have visited Thailand countless times over 30 years, lived and worked in Bangkok, managed a subsidiary business there for several years and have owned a property for ten years. So troll no, different opinion yes. Apologies but I thought that was the point of a forum - to share opinions.

i dont play golf, but took some friends to ratchaprapa dam golf course,1hour north of khao lak,300b green fees, buggy clubs and caddy. altogether 1000b,one guy said he has played in some great courses but this one was his favourite.

  14. You are wise to ask this question. There are many scams running. Current prices are 200B for shared van, (agents desks will clearly show this option in arrivals area) 600ish baht for metered Taxi.(out doors turn right) 750-800B for "limo" (Toyota Camry) but they often open negotiations asking for much more. One of our guests did not do the research you have and was charged 4000B to Kata. They often do this for late night arrivals as the metered taxi and shared vans don't operate late at night.

Be careful as there have been multiple reports of touts showing a map to arriving tourists with the price of 1800B or more to the beach towns. This is a scam. There is a bus system that was supposed to be running by now, but at present the Kata Karon taxi mafia have threatened to blockade it if it runs, so it's operation has been postponed.

There is no need to enter into any negotiation for the limos, the two limo stands outside both have a fixed price boards clearly visible, same as Bangkok.

The other option is to use the metered cabs to the right as you head out the terminal if any are available.

I don't understand what the big deal is with taxi prices here, nearly every taxi booth in Phuket now has a fixed price board nailed onto it.

true, but a lot of taxis go back empty, and would prefer a fare,i had some guests come out of the airport, and turned left at the exit gates, they got picked up by a hotel limo for 500b to khao lak,as opposed to 1800b.

  15. Yes, stolen passports have a value of approx 200 to 250 USD. Typical resale value is 500 USD to 1000 USD.

It's worth more if the passport is not biometric, still has some years of validity and if of a "first world" country (i.e. without visa requirement for most countries).

khao san road, there are people thre ask to buy your passport and then report it stolen,a lot of backpackers do it.
