Mobile phones and solar panels for charging!
Jing Joe replied to LingonBerry's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
Maybe not so bbko., because the rechargable battery devices above are "big-pocket sized", and internationally available, sort of like the sun hey. -

Mobile phones and solar panels for charging!
Jing Joe replied to LingonBerry's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
A good option that may be a bit slower to charge its own internal battery is one like this:- 20000mAh Portable Solar Power Bank External Battery Dual USB Phone Charger. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/275499624268?hash=item40250ea74c:g:AUYAAOSwVFhjSU4t&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwFSwSOJ3fklE6VDbzzuRE1tN%2BymO3tLsAO6zK7t5i4csgE86JDzPWarnHbBrMUW3ZPKeglqjuSAhid1xKkrsrSb3hPGqVMdWvblpR7SP92o4F0TpX9HcpnXujlY4yWY0y7ba8oxz1icqVA64p20N4uZyc5tanSAJfKWqkrhxLGKAF091mN%2F1LrVIJEb%2BZTVcd2Kz8TJDZaFOwk0LbiYcSqt3ebNJiCL6b6eQRuKTfcTn9VboP%2F3QsQ4eEZPjo4meEA%3D%3D|tkp%3ABlBMUKzugcDsYg Maybe not too quick to charge its internal battery in the sun but very suitable to charge your phone after dark. Cheap enough to get 2 or more? Beware, one brand claims to have a 500000mAh battery. That's 500 Watts! Total B.S. -
Mobile phones and solar panels for charging!
Jing Joe replied to LingonBerry's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
To start the ball rolling, the small wall power pack chargers for phones etc are usually about 10 watts capability (i.e. is 5V x 2A = 10W), and 10Watt solar panels are very roughly about 20cm x 20cm? but never connect/plug e.g. a solar panel directly to a phone etc. be they 12v or any other voltage You need to google for a complete purpose built device, (and be very suspicious about their power claims), or connect a 12v panel to a 5V voltage regulator, or wait for experienced others to reply here. My phone in charging 5V x 1.2 Amps, as measured, as I type. Too many Lithium batteries in other equipment have failed because of cheap chargers that over charge, but maybe not phones that cease automatically when charged? -
Government to promote production and use of EVs in Thailand
Jing Joe replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Oh YES, YES and YES Eisfeld, so well put. and of course YES... the heavier-than-air planes. Where have historically all the detractors gone? long time ago? and now re E.Vs? long time passing. 😝 when will they ever learn? -
Government to promote production and use of EVs in Thailand
Jing Joe replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Eric Loh just wrote:- "The transition to EV cars is inevitable and soon will be a regular way of life" etc Oh yes! so turn back the hands of time when the first rail steam engine that "breathed fire" was so badly thought of in so many ways. History repeating its self?? Then later wasn't the first speed record in an E.V. not an I.C.E. ? And VincentRJ just authoritively quoted:- "I.C.E. vehicles convert about 17-21 percent of energy to moving it etc", so think about the 80c per $ wasted mostly in heat. C'mon people, think of solutions instead of unfounded unproductive negativity and realize Eric's "inevitability" above wont evolve from your present thinking. -

HenryFord said:- - "those photos of cars charging on the street are a joke. In London those cables would be stolen the first night. " Sooo many ignorant bystanders are a joke and continue to offer ill advice and opinions.!!! The charging port plugs are locked as Bandersnatch says. Regardless, who would be brave enough to cut the live cable even to steal the few metres of copper wire? because thats all they would get, if they survived. -

Well said KhunLA (MG icon):- "Mind boggling the ignorance of the non EV owners preaching their BS to EV owners. " We didn't choose and MG EV for certain reasons, partly financial, but instead a Japanese E.V. made in U.K of all places. 🙃 -

O.M.G. what a hot topic and certain un-involved negative whigers are getting their nickers in knots. It's horses for courses. Our E.V. is great for our lots of town running. Only 270km range but charging at home (which also happens to be off grid solar) is too easy. Luv it greatly especially driving past the high petrol price signs. If petrol I.C.E. are only 15% efficient(?) and with all their idling in traffic, then maybe less than 15 cents per dollar is usable. In our two-vehicle family, one original lovely petrol ute (made in Thailand) takes second place now for the occasional heavy and long distace stuff and thats fine. Bring on the Thai made E.V's for whom they suit and let the negative whingers keep to them selves. None of their business. -
House Military Panel Calls Navy To Explain Swapping Sub For Frigate
Jing Joe replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Surely a bigger question is why the necessity for any escalation of Naval power? What country/s does Thailand need to attack or defend? Stinks of non-neutrality. -
Halloween:- the ever increasing activity and publicity on so much crap is just one indicator just how sick human society has sunk to.

Hope the mods dont delete his post as Bangkok Barry suggested. Let the truth come out. It's in our face that he's off his face, and how many thousands like that are driving on our roads? Didn't Thailand already have one of the worst road casualty rates?

Sounding like another reason to criminalise it because it was always believed to lead to the next step:- heroine. He is not talking strait so he is unlikely to be driving straight.

No, No, No and No. 1. A big bathroom type fan may remove humid air from the inside but will suck in potetially equally humid air from the outside, 2. the cold side of a peltier roughly equals the hot side so there's little net gain in heat, 3. the small fan uses VERY little power and 4. an alternative tube is usually provided to drain water to another big bucket nearby.
-
So true "P" but even with a nice Coeffient Of Performance, air/con cost more to run versus a fan to sleep and a quiet 100watt dehumidifier in each of the 2 rooms he referred to. JVS might need to do the sums hey.

The unit recommended by two posts above look good if they actually are 2000 baht, but being only 555mm high and looking taller than the bed is more lies. At least Trippy is happy with them and their 10.5 kg packaged weight suggests quality internals. https://shopee.sg/SONGJING-SJ-121E-12L-Day-Dehumidifier-Up-to-12-month-SG-Warranty-3-pin-SG-Plug-i.10233884.4641880747

I bought this one that claimed to be 90watts (admittedly not a big one) but it was actually only 60 watts consumption as measured so their claims for certains size rooms are also suspect. Supplier was nice enough, offered a price reduction but I couldnt be bothered. Liars. It worked to a degree given the fairly low humidity and confident would be much better in L.O.S. Internally the same principle as the cheap camping coolers and use one thermo electric peltier device. One other supplier of same type even claimed to be a compresor type, same price, same liars. Now my seller below posts "sale ended", but beware.. there were other ads for this same unit. Just need two units instead of one for every large room? try two first? and you could be happy. Gives humidity/temp readings. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/314197720360

Solar Recommendation for Blackouts
Jing Joe replied to parallaxtech's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
P said has limited skills but good on your encouragement "atpeace". There could be 2nd hand 240Watt panels dirt cheap out there from solar installers upgrading systems to 300 watt (or bigger) panels. -
Solar Recommendation for Blackouts
Jing Joe replied to parallaxtech's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
That seems irelevant to the proposed question by P parallaxtech Sure a simple Grid Tie Inverter "shouldnt" run if not synchronised with the blacked out grid it is tied to, but a hybrid system with a battery will, so will an off grid system typically running an inverter from batteries that have been charged from solar, so will a non-solar mains charged system T.M. suggested in reply to the topic question by P. "I could be wrong and I often am" -
Solar Recommendation for Blackouts
Jing Joe replied to parallaxtech's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
Good on your encouraging advice Willi but beware folks, there's a nice off grid Queenswing inverter that works from solar panels and claims to work without a battery. Yes it does rather nicely, until the first cloud comes along to drop the input volts below 120V, then it goes to a fault mode, fair enough, BUT a battery voltage then needs to be verified as fully charged, and until then, it stays in fault mode. So with no battery it then needs to be manually reset, after every cloud, depending on:- 1. the power available from panels to keep the volts above 120v, versus:- 2. the cloud density versus:- 3. the inverter output load level. With no load and all cloud variations, even quite overcast, it works well all day. ???? -

TM's suggestion re a mains-charged battery bank on standby was refreshingly unique, practical and economical. Just question this:- "a couple used car batteries 1,000 baht and a simple Lazada inverter 1.5kw 1,500 baht. A car battery charger at about 500 baht." The reliability of used car batteries could be disappointing just when needed? and be careful about the charger quality that must settle on a suitable float voltage, say 13.8V?. Research yourself. "A couple" could infer a series (24v. messy with just one 12v charger) or parallel (12v) connection depending on inverter's requirement. Either way one suspect 'used car battery' could let the system down. Mmmm messy. Invest in brand-new and identical batteries. Size? Deep cycle? Forward plan into future solar possibilities? Is any grid getting more reliable? Research. An accurate/reasonable multimeter to check float volts and emergency load volts re over discharge risk, but inverters often have low input-volts dropout. Research. Cheap smaller inverters usually dont tolerate some load surges, e.g. the start current of a 1000w water pump (600W is more typical size,) but not likely on low emergency loads with T.M.'s suggested (LED?) lights and fan, but beware some cheapies with their impure A.C. output may not treat sensitive electronic loads kindly e.g. computers . Research. Some inverter type petrol generators warn about this. Configuiring a stand-alone connection access to only T.M.'s emergency type loads on to the inverter circumvents undesirable loads/overloads, and easy initiation by family e.g just go for the inverter's DC input switch. Overall great idea T.M. -

Bit like how snakes have a forked tongue. ???? Actually, the original tail probably only became half detatched and still has some circulation. Still very novel hey.
