  1. Ignore the news good or bad when making the jump. Just come and enjoy it. If you aren't hung up on life-must-be-a-certain-way, you will thrive here. As for building your own insulated space... we all do that anywhere in the world to some degree. Likely you don't have to be any more insulated than where you are now.

    Interesting.

Personally, I think potential retired expats here should be strongly DISCOURAGED from moving here. Nobody is inviting them. Thailand certainly isn't just because they offer an extremely conditional "visa" that has an endless short leash with no chance ever of increasing residency status. Yes, some always will come, and some will be happy with the choice, but in my view that's a small minority of people and that's how it should be. This country is NOT for everyone! No country is of course, but Thailand has it's own special peculiarities which no, you cannot possibly begin to understand until you've live here a long time, and by then, you've made a commitment (wisely or not).

same same and agreed on your point. If someone is already planning and/or liked Thailand on vacation, not much point in reading personal opinions that are colored IMHO.

Given all the other expat options where we can make decisions based on cold facts of costs, lifestyle, etc. it seems like most who are on TV and not in LOS yet have it narrowed down to here or 1-2 other places. So... make of it what you will.

  2. Clearly they only want you to have one connection. If you want another, you have to ask for another Username and Password.

Not sure how you get to clearly, but, nah, management is fine with it. They simply have an antiquated management system that only allows one login (the room number) with one password. Told me good idea to set it up. They would run a cable for me but nothing close by to keep it hidden.

The theory alone is worth discussing amungst tech-heads.

  3. Rich, that is correct. So, what about one box that connects to condo wifi via the Web page login, and a short cat to another box that is a standard wireless router? What would be that first box? Yeah... I could do this with a dual nic PC, but I don't want to boot up all the time. Just want to turn on the power and not buy a pc.

  4. Condo building has good wifi, but it requires a login and password. When a 2nd device connects with that set of credentials, the first ip is dropped and only the last device to log in gets access.

My idea is to have my own router. There is no cat11 cable so does anyone know of a decent, non-virus-making, non-spyware router that connects via wifi to the 'net and then lets my devices connect to it?

    Cheers

  5. REAL double espresso with sweet milk, 4 donuts, and all the sweet business ladies making eyes at me for B25. Morning is starting out nice smile.png
That sounds a bit too cheap, even for Thailand lol

Nope. Just find a market near an office building. 6am to 6pm. B30 with ice.

my ice mocha is only 18 baht (used to be 15 though)

but do you get 4 donuts as well for that price ?

2 shops... the espresso was 20, the donuts 5. Both made as I watched. I am in more populated, business areas, but in the back neighborhoods, cheaper like you describe.

  7. Laughing with 10 people because I spilled espresso down my shirt after the vendor put the the drinking hole over the seam of the cup? Priceless. Would have likely been an irate crowd in an American Starbucks wanting me to sue. lol. Mai pen rai.
