  1. Just because the OS is forgiving on grandma and the clueless doesn't mean the power isn't there in spades for people that know how to properly utilise it.

so true! its the true potential of OSX and also its weakness indeed.

for me, i passed the point of no return about 10 years ago, and just ignored the not existing compatiblity.

(and this was not easy that time as basically everything was based of the Colorful Dos version called "Windows 95" or so wink.png )

today this is much different, and there are basically no issues left at all, and for the ones are, i simply just don't care.

the perfomance, the extremly smooth workflow and the advantage in productivity is the thanks what i get.

i'm a serious developer and troubleshooter, i simply not have the time installing shit all the time because a new client use somethings 2 bits different,

making the system do things and watch it burn 95% of the power on virus scans, firewalls and whatever else things not really do anything productive.

i know a lot of peoples "try" the Mac Os'es .. and got back to windows, but i can say that basically all of them where not really try at all ...

anyone else i got to mac os .. simply stick there and is thankful for the choice they made. (even some thais) wink.png

some of them even very much "in need of windows compatiblity" ...

after you get the curve, the true power will make you seriously regret every minute wasted on a Windows System.

  2. well as long not actualy "work" via NAS on windows it may be a good way of doing things wink.png

since its not very complex setup, everything is "on sight" handled by a handful IP's thats okay to do it the windows way i guess ..

things will look alot different if the setup extends or some complexity or (tasks spanning serval systems) is introduced.

but that is it looses out in comparability.

since its a business setup have to lean on the clients requirements as well, so it may make sense.

for me, the only thing i can't use on my 90% apple Setup is the Bangkok Bank Business Banking, lucky me i'm not a customer of them ...

    anything else works just great.

just 2 hours ago i had the pages.app telling me that it did make changes on a docx document i openened,

i see that as a ease of the workflow, i been told what has been changed, and what the reasons where, and i can choose to keep it or not.

but its true .. alot of things not working out out of the box, but that is somethings on pourpose.

we had a semilar thing before called "Novel Netware" ... this is the reason why Microsoft Windows NT did win this race, at the great cost of security.

windows 8 is still running parts of the very same NT Kernel, and today after 15 Years it is still not able to provide security on the OS Level.

some of my larger clients running AS400 servers until today for just this this reasons, since accounting is not somethings evolves alot in requirements.

in short, there no perfect OS, its all up to the requirements the individual has.

  3. Anyway did not see anything special or anything that blew me away i felt more restricted. Part of it because I am a new user.

thats is very normal experience for anyone chained to the windows usage, that makes the transition harder i admit. but after a while the simplicity simply pays back.

and it becomes a very powerful tool instead of a construction of a os you have a constant fight with wink.png

in os9 already you had more ways to get things done as in the equal windows version, and not in os10 this is just the same.

i never hit any boundaries, but i have alot of peoples keep asking me about install this and update there and crash here.

my response is always the same: its a mac, i dont have this problems, or its a mac is build in feature, not requires any software wink.png

the iTunes thing is just a application like any other.

there is nothing force defined in OSX .. if you not like iTunes, use something else .. just like on windows you can change the association with just 2 mouse clics (well i guess in windows its a few more) wink.png

for anything else here is some explaination of your feelings (refers to the 10 years old OS9):

    wink.png;)

  4. there has been no intel based apple Computer not running flawless windows .. since "bootcamp" requires all the compatibility as well.

things from apple do usaly works before they beeing released ;)

anyway just out of curiosity, what is it you do where the os10 envioment does trow stones in your way ?

besides of playing games i mean.

  5. did you ever use hotmail other than via the hotmail websites ?

if your account was created after 2006 its very likely that your account has no pop enabled.

after 2006 microsoft charged money for this feature via Hotmail "plus" ...

so if you never used hotmail via a real mail programm (outlook does not count m$ has a connector for outlook)

its very likely it never worked.

  6. "the authority of the teachers is unquestioned"

Yes, and so is their instruction/teaching unquestioned by the children

i dont see the harm in that, as the "the 'pi-nong' relationship" is something teaches mutual respect as well.

the danger comes if the parents then fail to build on that by delivering common sense, basic thinking and the fact that the world is actually bigger than from village sign to village sign.

  7. to have that properly working you need to do 4 simple things.

however, they may different based on the infrastructure you are using.

    - make sure the port 25 does actually reach your machine (port forward / nat) on the router.

    - change the DNS to have a host with the ip you are using (if the IP does change you may need to use dynamic update (DNSSEC) or the easy aprach via dyndns (i not really recoment that)

    - in order to send mails from the machine .. and avoiding some spam issues (since the ip may change and you not in control of the PTR records) you need to make sure the spf records also set properly.

in case you do use DNSSEC for dynamic updates this can be archived quite easy.

    - on the machine itself simply set then the mail hostname to your mail.domainname.org and make sure the server does not resolve the local host .. (this can be done by simply add the mail.domainname.org into the /etc/hosts file

  8. As for meeting the parents, be yourself! The same advice applies to that above; if the GF takes the advice from the parents over what her heart says, then there is something wrong with the relationship before you start.

that is not entirely true !

the more cultural bonded thais do think this way.

i am married to a thai serval years already.

on the day i meet her father the first time, she was quite abit worried, and my question about the resons where answered with "may not aproove" .. a few days later i followed up on this .. and she made it clear if the father say NO that mean the end of the relationship as well.

    well he didn't ...

as for the million, i think that is quite overdozed.

i paid 250k (and they burned almost all of the money while the ceremony (was part of the deal))

for well educated, europe experience, fluent German English Language skills, good job.

and most important "COMMON SENSE" (!!!) .. you really, really, really need to check on that ...

as the not existence will give you a serious nightmare later on !

education is somethings can be fixed, but common sense is very hard to come-by.

  9. short question.

does anyone know at what form of change on a rented house i do need to inform/ask the landlord ?

i plan to install a small door for my Cats trough the wall (about 20 x 20cm hole required)

of course that will be fixed prior moving out, the question is just if there is a regulation for this kind of things?

  10. Nothing "obcure" at all!

    He is just re-playing history!

Pushing the country in a Dictatorship.

    Step 1 make a enemy

Step 2 make peoples need it

    Step 3 provide a solution

    Step 4 eliminate competition

For the guy wrote the history books it where the Jews and the goal was world domination.

After Thaksin gone they will need a new "Evil" to keep the crowd cheering.

And guess who that may be?

My guess is either Muslims (because pappa Bush made a good job promoting them to evil) or even more simple "The Falang"

    Will see.

Im the end the actions make the ousted just more powerfoul and sooner or later someone will iterfere.

    Its all by the book.

  11. As far as getting another router... I don't seem to know enough about router stuff to function beyond the basic needs of what the Express does.

My ONLY concern is that I am able to use any one of the many good VPN companies.

you are right about your points, it makes really no sense, unless you copy on a rgulary basis VERY large amounts of data between the devices

or have shared application acessing the same databases or somethings like that.

.. but i doubt that to happen judging from your initial post

i have partly wired network with 2 additional airport extreme, a 6TB harddisc Bay connected to one of them,

it holds over 400 movies, which does the appletv play flawlessly via 2 wifi connections to upstairs bedroom or downstairs Tv.

never had any issues at all ..

using the wbole inrastructure every day for my work as well.

with about 2TB of rabidly changing data for my work every day.

use 2 Internet connections and 2 Permanent established VPN connections.

never have to push any buttons or change settings, it just works wink.png

so forget all of that .. get an Airport and a Mikrotik Router (even the smallest one will do (costs about 1500 baht)) ..

then you get seamlessly integrated VPN working and also never ever have to do the reboot/reset/trash&rebuy rituals like on the other mentioned brands which are (unless they are very expensive) just end user junk with zero features.

  12. if you mean a external eglish keyboard .. then yes that is right.

the guys at unlimitmac.com maybe also able to help you on the keyboard issue ..

there is also a small shop in Fortune (rama9 / ratchada) where they do this kind of thing.

but if you mean the notebooks own keyboard, better go for the onine option with 24h shipping,

instead of waste time walking like a zombie trough town finding peoples not really want to help or giving unverified answers leading you to waste even more time.

  13. Ios devices are not designed to "share"

The operating system has no features supporting that.

You could enable perantal controls to limit acces but that would disable alot of your own freedom as well.

  14. Air or Pro does very much depend on the application.

    (Thats why they both exist)

I'm very happy with my Air, as a fulltime Coder i dont really need the DVD, large space and the Firewire.

The battery does last forever, its not heavy, and runns the same apps as on my iMac at home.

    Perfect little Beast it is.

  15. put in the CD, open iTUnes, mark CD content, control-click select convert AAC (or mpeg depends on your settings)

    wait

after that done click 'Sync" with your ipad connected .. and all is done wink.png

edit: well before converting, make sure the names and artwork has been downloaded from the cddb, so you wont need to edit the names manually.

  16. http://www.transmissionbt.com/

nothing better ! no fanzy shit ... no buttons ... just the essentials, easy to control via web, no slowing down GUI noone needs.

i have it running on my appletv so i do not need to keep my imac on for this reason ... since i do seed a number of Firmware updates for hardwares and Open Source Linux distributions.

    works great since years.
