So let me get this straight, due to your own incompetence you have left yourself open to being on overstay, with the extremely small possibility of getting free accommodation in the IDC and a subsequent five year ban if you don't rectify the situation and are unlucky enough to get picked up by immigration in the couple of days prior to your scheduled flight and this, according to you, is "a nail in the coffin of tourism to Thailand "?

Not only that, you make the highly dubious claim of not returning although allegedly you've been a visiting for almost 20 years.

I feel for you, I really do, a terrible situation they put you in :coffee1:

How is Immigration surprise change in the rules a sign of my incompetence?

I dispute your characterization that the change was always known to occur on the 31st.   When last I read in the English paper, we are not allowed to quote,  they were still considering it and most expected the change to occur in July.  And we are talking while on a trip over a weekend,  not a couple of days prior to my scheduled flight as you intimate

Finally, my veracity has never been challenged on this forum so I don't much care whether you believe me  or not.  Truth be told your aggressive response to my contribution to the discussion is evidence that you missed the whole point of my response. It's the constantly changing of the rules that is a problem for continued tourism

  2. It's already in effect

Friday, the 31st I left for a weekend in Ho chi min city and left DMK and Immigration stamped me out and did not say a word about the rule change

Arrived back on Sunday the 2nd and was only given 30 days and despite my outbound iternary showing return to the US on 3 May.  When I asked for the supervisor,  she told me that I would just have to pay for "overstay ".  But what ticks me off is that I am going to be labeled an overstayer after almost 20 years of coming to Thailand without a blemish on my record. So you might as well just get a 30 day tourist visa, since Visa Exempt entries have lost their value

I'm only in this mess because of the catch 22 with the insurance requirement for an O-A. My insurance company refuses to fill out the Immigration Medical Coverage form English but instead insists that their letter in Thai is sufficient.  As you can imagine,  rightfully so, Thai Immigration will only accept their form

  3. I obtained the first extension of my Visa Exempt entry from Jomtien and they didn't say a word about my staying in my foreign owned condo.

But after my trip to Vientiane by air they fined me 1,600 Baht for failing to report "myself" within 24 hours to Immigration as the house master. Fined me when I went for another 30 day extension so once again Thai Immigration continues to be a lottery

So be prepared for a possible fine and lecture on respecting the Thai Immigration laws if you are staying with relatives and they did not report you to the nearest Immigration Office or Police Station

  4. Will Chonburi Immigration issue a Certificate of Residency based upon proof of ownership ( Chanote) for my Pattaya Condo instead of a non immigrant visa ?

My license expires in May and will be my 3rd 5 year renewal but I only have a Tourist visa due to the health insurance requirement for an OA . I  could just use my US license for the 6 months that I am here but if memory serves me correctly you are only allowed to use a foreign license for 30 days

  5. All I can say is it is pretty damn confusing no matter which airline or destination you choose and unfortunately we are required to DYI every aspect of travel out of Thailand these days

There is another thread running that overlaps this one here, where I posted my experience:

I have had 4 EVA Air flights to Seattle, with the obligatory transit of Taipei, cancelled since May 1st and was rescheduled for Aug 1st after my July 3rd flight was pulled

But suddenly last week (Wednesday) I received a call from EVA asking me if I would like to return on my original July 3rd flight since " Taiwanese authorities have now allowed transit of Taipei" according to the CSR.  I agreed on the change and new ticket was issued

Unfortunately no one seems to know if my outbound flight is bringing in passengers or if it is deadheading to pick up passengers for Taiwan and points beyond.  Previous post here report that for London, EVA was flying to London from Taipei via Bangkok, to pick up passengers and then direct to LHR

So I will be going to swampy on the 3rd with no idea of any "Covid-19 " medical requirements or where I will end up or how.

Did they offer to put you in a hotel at their expense while you were waiting?

NO, I am here on a non immigrant visa, and on the return leg of a Round trip ticket, purchased in August in the US

You have a long running thread here where the head of the Civil Aviation authority states that flights will not be allowed into the country until September

Yet as this thread shows that there are flights out according to the airlines and posters here

There is nothing stopping you from leaving. There are flights leaving every day. Have you even checked?

Yes, but getting to London is not on my bucket list at the present time
