  1. Pralaad we are not talking about someone finding a AK-47 on the battlefield here but a sophisticated air to ground missile system with the ability to down an civilian airliner at over 30,000 feet.

Even if it was the rebels how many rebel fighters do you think would be able to operate such a sophisticated piece of equipment since it certainly was not a shoulder fired weapon

Sorry, but this whole incident has Russian fingerprints all over it

  2. I spend 8 months in Thailand and 4 months in the US every year. In my case I have found that an O-A visa works fine for me and in many cases having a "non immigrant visa" has advantages while in Thailand (bank accounts & 5 year DL license) and since I leave every year I get 2 "winters" out of my O-A visa. I have been doing this since 2007 and have never had a problem.

BUT, I have a family physician who will sign the Medical Form that states that I don't have Leprosy, Tuberculosis, drug addiction, Elephantiasis, or third phase of Syphilis as a part of my annual physical, my state offers a criminal records check via the Internet for $10, and my former employer issues an official monthly pay slip that details my income

But most importantly, I obtain the visa from either the Embassy in Washington or the Consulate in New York via mail and they do not require the documentation to be notarized like Chicago and Los Angeles Consulates do

  3. The Junta is lowering the Vat for one year to 6.3% and then in October of 2015 they will jack it up to 9% incredible. It like the old shell game.

Where do people come up with this kind of misinformation? We can 't criticize moderation but can't we ban members that post nonsense

NCPO maintains 7-per cent VAT for one year
    July 17, 2014 10:22 pm
NCPO on Thursday announced that the VAT will be maintained at 7 per cent for another year from October 1, 2014 to September 30, 2015 in an attempt to boost the domestic consumers' spending that will lead to the country's economic growth.
The VAT then will be increased to 10 per cent, effective from October 1, 2015 onward.

By the law, when buying products and services consumers in fact will have to pay the VAT at 10 per cent of those products and services’ prices. But, the VAT was in exemption by previous governments that issued announcements to collect it at 7 per cent for many years.

  4. Had the same problem a couple of years ago on a trip to Siem Reap. The Immigration officer was fixated on my 90 day report paper and reminded me to make sure I reported in 90 days so she stamped my O-A Visa with a 90 day date instead of the one year date. I checked the stamp before leaving her desk and after I reminded her that I had a multiple entry visa she corrected the admitted until stamp

So you must always check before you leave the desk

  5. Are we really talking about fiber to the home from the TV company or just Internet via the standard TV cable (coax) ?

CAT does use fiber optic and have offered to string it to my house in a moobahn but until they improve their Internet Gateway it is not worth the 3,600 THB installation price, plus 3,000 THB cable price from the nearest neighbor

I did have Sophon Cable Internet in my condo in Pattaya and although not the speediest option (on paper) , the quality of signal was vastly superior to TOT or 3BB ADSL service

  6. Hmmmm. Official it is not allowed to feed a pump direct from the mains.

    What!

Every shop house in Bangkok pumps directly from the main, along with many houses.

Exact like I said, official not allowed. I did not say it does not happen. And if it happens it does not mean it is suddenly allowed.

Sent from my GT-I9300 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

And the enforcement will occur when your Thai neighbors can't get any water since it is all being diverted by your illegal mains pump

  7. As much as I hate this option but you could bury the tank, which would allow it to fill from the mains via gravity and then pump to your house from the tank

Not an ideal solution but better than not having water

  8. You cannot get an O-A Visa in Thailand (or any visa for that matter) visas are issued by Thai Embassies and Consulates overseas, all you can get when in Thailand is an extension of stay

The OP should try and get a "local criminal records check" at his local Sheriffs office or police department. There is no requirement to obtain a full blown criminal records check just a letter from a law enforcement agency stating that you have no record in their files, so fingerprint cards and NCIC checks are way overboard

You cannot get a NCIC (National Crime Information Center) from a gun dealer. They will input your pedigree into a data base and all that will come back will be a YES or NO and a number which they will enter into their sales book so certify that they checked prior to selling you a gun

Obtaining any records from the NCIC that is not for legitimate law enforcement or security purposes can result in criminal charges. A civilian cannot access the NCIC database on his or her own legally.

The only problem I foresee for the OP is the Los Angeles Consulates' requirement that you have this criminal records check notarized

  9. There is also another one on Sukumvit in Ban Amphur that has an affiliation with Austria

The college was founded in 1970 as Sattahip Technical College by the Thai and Austrian governments, with the Europeans supplying much of the equipment and capital to get the institution off the ground.

The name was changed to Thai-Austrian Technical College in 1990 with the commonwealth continuing its support over the years while the college has performed social activities and produced personnel for the industrial sector.

  10. There are a number of them in the area, for example there is a marine one on Pattaya Tai.

Be aware these schools are very tribal and a lot of the teen gang violence seems to come from inter-school rivalries, so a bit of supervision may be needed to avoid trouble down the road.

I think that one (built to look like a ship's deck) is closed

Have never heard or read of these "technical colleges" having the same problems in Pattya as in Bangkok

  11. Just to be clear. I would recommend keeping the USA Paypal account linked to the USA bank account and open another PayPal in Thailand and link that to Kasikorn. Just get a Gmail or Yahoo email address. You cannot use the same email for both PayPal accounts.

Correct. It becomes important if you are buying off of Ebay since many sellers will only ship to your "PayPal " address, this way she would be covered in both places

  12. This is great news by the NCPO and it encourages Thai's to travel over the long weekend. It highlights that they are sincere about rebuilding the Thai economy and making the people happy at the same time.

If only 1% of Thai's travelled in this 4 day weekend that would equate to the French tourists that enter Thailand in one year. Heck, if only 0.5% travel and take holidays it would equate to the Philippine tourists in a one year period.

Encouraging news and well done General Prayuth. It is good to see Thailand on the road to recovery.

I wonder how many people will die in road accidents on your road to recovery

  13. Whatever you do , do it quickly since most likely your shipment is sitting in a bonded customs warehouse and if not taken out immediately you will be subject to storage charges that may exceed the value of the shipment very quickly

How much customs duty you are going to have to pay is entirely dependent upon which customs agent is assigned to your shipment, since that person will decide what is covered by customs "rules"
