  1. Even the factory tech from Fagor couldn't answer that question.

I surmise that the Grundfoss was so quick to detect a small drop in pressure that it pumped too much cold water into the tank when not really needed. Once a less expensive pump was installed the water temperature remained stable. The Grundfoss was moved to a house that heated water on demand and could benefit from it's quickness

  2. Not sure if I'm reading that correctly - are you using a pump to pump hot water to the bathroom(s)? smile.png

No, you are not reading it correctly. Pumping water to a hot water tank, which means that cold water goes into the tank, is then heated , and then distributed to the faucets throughout the house or cold water is pumped directly to a on demand water heater (s)

  3. If you don't want to have to physically go to your bank branch to sign for your monthly check then do not have it direct deposited to a Thai bank (Bangkok Bank), but to a US based bank and then transfer it to your Thai Bank. Obviously Bangkok Bank is the easiest to do this so long as you have Internet banking both in the US and in Thailand

BTW. You can only apply for Social Security 3 months in advance of your eligibility date

  4. you can only have one PayPal account. I tried what you're doing and they wouldn't let me.

I know people that do not have PayPal now because PayPal found out they had two accounts.

I had a Thai friend of mine open a PayPal account and connect it to her bank. If need be I can send

money to her and she can withdraw, it does take 7 days to go from PP to the bank. But in reverse, I

can give her cash to deposit and she can send me money my PP and from there I can transfer it to

    my bank.

If you're thinking you can have two accounts, you will probably get both of them deleted when they find out.

You can only have one PayPal account per email address. You can have as many as you wan't so long as they are opened with a different email address

And that is what I was told by PayPal out of Singapore (who handle Thailand) when I needed a "registered" PayPal address in Thailand as required by most Ebay sellers

I have a US PayPal account for US purchases and a Thai PayPal account for Foreign purchases

  5. Just a warning to anyone considering a Grundfos pump for a house. They are excellent pumps and are probably the most silent and reliable that you can find in Thailand BUT if you have a boiler hot water set up they just won't work

For on demand hot water they are wonderful but had to replace mine in a new build with a Hitachi because of this limitation

  6. Langsuan Man,

    thanks for these clarifications !

For the house option, if I got this right, I'll have to give the money to my wife, we'll be able to buy a house, but it'll likely not be possible to send back the money to my country in case of problem, right ?

You will not only have to give your wife the money to buy the house but in most cases the Land Office will require you to sign a form stating that you did not give her the money to purchase the house which is the bad news

The good news is that if you divorce then the property will become community property and the court will require that either the house be sold to pay you, or you wife will be required to pay you for your half, and then you would be able to repatriate the money your receive as proceeds of a divorce judgement

  7. False alarm. The wife talked to city hall (or whatever the office is) and they said that the plans are for 2 stories. the other good news is that he was building too close to us to have windows needs to be 1.5m away. He threatened the wife to see her in court after she explained the situation. It looks like he has relented and his second story is 1.5m away.

Your wife should never have had any contact to "explain" anything with the person that was building. The tessaban should have been the one to inform him of the rule

The three story fear may have been a False alarm but you now have a neighbor that will be looking for payback

  8. The construction boom in all of Thailand, not just Pattaya, is being fueled by the abundance of cash. You have to do something with your money and with bank interest rates being at historical lows, the only place to park cash is in Real Estate for most Thais

  9. If you have 800,000 THB in the bank for retirement purposes you are liable only for the interest that is paid by a Thai bank during the year that the interest is earned. But since the Thai banks deduct the tax from the interest posted to your account most foreigners don't even know it

So to clarify since this thread has gotten all mucked up. Your are not responsible for paying Thai income tax on the principle when it it is brought into Thailand but are responsible to pay tax on any income made off of that principle in Thailand

  10. If you are still after some help PM me with some details such as how many minutes of video, the file format (MPEG3,MP4 or 3GP etc) if you know it and any other info.

I live in the Pattaya area and have conversion software etc on my PC so may be able to provide you some help or education for yourself for a small consideration.

Save the small consideration and follow post #2's instructions

  11. Paypal for Thailand only allows the use of a Bangkok Bank ATM card for funding the PayPal account, not other method is allowed. That being said, others have posted here about how PayPal has the lousiest foreign exchange rates here in Thailand

Since I only use my Thai PayPal account to purchase from Ebay sellers that insist that I have a "PayPal verified address in Thailand" I can't advise on using it to "to semi-regularly send funds home"

Maybe others can advise on a cheaper method

  12. Foreign Exchange certificates will only be issued by a Thai Bank for amounts over $50, 000 US or equivalent for the purchase of a condo

see this post in the Ask a Lawyer forum

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/749318-money-transfer-to-purchase-condo/

Since you cannot purchase a house as a farang you cannot take the money back out (and yes you can form a company to purchase the land on which a house may sit, but your company cannot obtain a Foreign Exchange Certificate)

  13. I was never able to find one in Thailand, despite several people telling me that they were available at Home Pro so I was able to get one from on Ebay from a foreign (Asian) seller

The only problem is that since it uses the European "pole" type plugs it sticks out too far from the wall and not flush like the one shown above, which makes reading and pushing the operational buttons difficult if it is plugged into a low receptacle

  14. BC/BC used to consider foreign hospital a being "preferred providers" and would pay 100% after your year deductible was met, but sometime in 2008 or 2009 they changed their system and it is now as described by other posters, pay first and then get reimbursed for 80% later

  15. Part of the problem is that he goes by several names. I know him as Naelon and first used him when his shop was in the small shopping strip on Klang going towards Suk after Big C (Carefour). He then moved to Chaipuk to a showroom near the Sukumvit intersection, but has since disappeared
  16. I really wonder if Bangkok Bank will issue a Foreign Exchange Certificate for funds transferred using the EFTS system to Bangkok Bank Thailand via Bangkok Bank New York.

I do it all the time but see no option for indicating that the transfer is for the purpose of purchasing a condo which is the correct language to be used on a SWIFT Wire request to get a Thai Bank to issue the certificate

Would like to know if any members here at TV have been successful in obtaining the FEC using the Bangkok Bank funds transfer system instead of a SWIFT wire(s)

  17. If it's in a town then he would need a building permit with an authorized plan. That should be from the land office!

Land Offices do not issue or approve building plans, that is the province of the Tessaban, who have engineers that work there to review them

You do have a right to view the plans since he is building near you , but there is not much or anything that you can do if he is legally building a 3 story house

Your right to privacy is not guaranteed in Thailand
