I just got married last week, and paid the sinsod without question.
This is a Thai tradition going back 1000's of years, as the article states. I choose to live in Thailand, and I chose to marry a Thai lady. So I feel it only right that I respect their traditions and respect their request for a dowery. It was a very reasonable figure. They are very poor people from Isaan. I have absolutely no problem with it.But thats MY choice. I could have said no. But I could also live back in England and marry an English girl (not thanks, on both counts).

Last evening everything (at least around Chaweng and Bangrak) was ordered closed at 23:00 amid rumors there’s a large cluster of hundreds of new infections. Even the 7/11’s closed earlier than normal. And yes, I know that 23:00 has been the official closing time for awhile now, but in practice many places stayed open until 2 or 3 or even later without anyone batting an eye.
I heard a contrasting story, that this all was due to a new police chief flexing his mucles.
Can anyone confirm?

I have said it before. I think the number will jump sharply soon. Due to the fact there are more people travelling to and from Samui over the Christmas and New Year period and mingling for the festivities.
100%. case numbers are going to go sky high VERY soon indeed. just ask around your friends or scroll your facebook feeds. its coming!

It is starting to become a little bit busy here. 19 flights inbound to Samui today. Mind you, this was a four day weekend.
People flying in and hoping to pick up a hire car at the airport are disappointed unless they pre-booked. Even then, trying to book a couple of days ahead has not been enough.
Ive also been really busy with all my car and bike rentals. Im fully booked. All fanags though, no Thais here for the long weekend.
Long may it continue.

Just as a reminder. If anyone has friends/family coming - car hire. We have some guests coming in December and they are struggling to find car rentals. (Hertz has closed at the airport. Not sure about others.)
Yes many are all booked up, and expect to pay normal pre covid prices for car and motorbike rental again now.

The only 2 nightlife places open in the centre of Chaweng are The Ark Store Bar and The Black Bamboo.
Then there is Old Skool Bar by the lake, and also some open on Soi Reggae.
The Black Duck is now open also.- 1

It does not, it just requires the number you were given at the time of your first vaccination.
On the form it was called your Tax Number (13 digit number)...on the app it's now called ID card number
For those that had the Pfizer 1st jab at Koh Samui Hospital (Nathon) on 10/09, this number is on the GREEN paper than you were given.
(And, your 2nd job is 01/10, 08:00-15:00, also at Koh Samui Hospital (Nathon))

If you are planning to travel and looking for a Vaccine Certificate, Digital Health Pass or Vaccine Passport for domestic or international travel?
1. For domestic travel, download the Mor Prom app on your phone and you will have access to the Digital Health Pass and the Covid-19 Vaccine Certificate (electronic copies on your phone).
2. For international travel, apply for a Vaccine Passport at Koh Samui Hospital (in Nathon).
More information HERE (scroll down to Digital Vaccine Certificate).
Mr Per, or indeed anyone else, please can you advise how I register on the Mor Prom app? It asks for a 13 digit ID card number, which, not being Thai, I dont have.
TIA.

Without wishing to sound factious, probably whatever they think they can get away with, if you have high end insurance you might find yourself in the Four Seasons (once you've had your nasal passages pillaged multiple times) , if you're paying your own way without insurance then a tent at the bottom of someone's garden is more likely ????
but how much for the tent and the paracetamol they will provide?

I do not know the answer to that question but tonight I heard that a friend of a friend has Covid.
No sense of taste or smell and positive on a rapid test. No other symptoms.
However, she will not go to a hospital or see a doctor as she is a single mum with a child. If she went to a hospital or even a hospitel, then they would probably be separated.
The child is negative - for now.
She is self isolating but......
Be careful people.
The field hospital (or hospitel) that I know of, is down in Lamai.
at at what expense? can anyone answer this yet? do we know what it costs a farang to be foced into hospital?

Renewed my driver's license on Friday afternoon.
My usual residence is Bangkok, but I have been staying on Samui since May, interrupted by a two week visit to Bangkok.
Staying at a hotel, I did not have a rental contract to prove my Samui residency, however, the hotel supported my request at Immigration for a Certificate of Residence.
I went to a clinic for the medical certificate and watched the DLT eLearning training video online. The video is strategically interrupted by multiple choice questions and pauses when you open another tab. Once passed, it issues a digital confirmation which is valid for 6 months.
The DLT Samui had originally told the hotel it would only do renewals at 0900 and 1000, but when asked again on Friday morning, they said they would accept the renewal until 1400.
I arrived at 1330 at DLT Samui (Lipa Noi), armed with two sets of signed copies of all the relevant passport pages, one original Certificate of Residence + one color copy, one original medical certificate from a clinic + one color copy, a print out of DLT eLearning confirmation and handed it to the clerk at the counter. There were only a handful people in the building and had a desolate feel to it.
I had to sign two documents for internal use and was sent two the second floor. It was dark and empty. A faint voice called me into one of the unlit rooms, where a man sitting behind a desk asked me to sit down.
He asked me what color I saw on the traffic light that didn't work. When he realized that, he got up and showed me a laminated card pointing to various colored circles and after correctly having answered four times, he signed the paperwork and told me I was done.
I returned downstairs, handed the paperwork and paid 780 baht, waited five minutes, had my picture taken and received the two licenses. In total, it took less than 30 minutes.
did you get a receipt for the 780 baht?
