UPDATE: Went to Samui Immigration, Maenam yesterday for Proof of Residence Certificates.

As steelerian says, filling in form no longer required. Just passport, house paper, 2 photos, THB 500.

Each certificate valid for three weeks.

They used to be valid for 30 days. Unless your visa ends before that 30 days, in which case they will be valid up to the date your visa/exit stamp expires (I think).

The last time I got one at Samui Imm., around three years ago, it was THB500. Can't quite remember offhand all requirements ( I have them written down somewhere), but it definitely included a copy of house paper, passport, and two photographs. I asked for two, and they had a limited validity of three or four weeks if I recall correctly.

    Exactly right.

500b, you are allowed maximum 2 certificates, and they are valid for 30 days, and you need exactly what you describe (copy of house paper, passport, and two photographs)

  3. 6. EVERY tourist will be supplied with ACTUAL photographs of the vehicle.

These photographs will be used when a claim arise from the rental shop.

    7. EVERY owner shall provide a VALID INSURANCE + TAX with the rented bike.

    8. EVERY owner shall provide an up-to-date inspection booklet with the last inspection date signed and stamped by an authorized dealer.

    9. The last 3 items of the contract will NEVER be fulfilled by any rental shop because of Thainess.

    ROTFLMAO

    6. any sensible renter should take photos or video with their phone

    7. government insurance and tax, yes, extra private insurance, no - not cost effective

    8. bikes only need inspection when 5 years old, in order to insure andtax

    9. whatever

I rent out bikes here in Samui. I encourage all rentees to check the bike thoroughly before taking it, to ensure that they know or any current damage. Most dont care and just drive away. But at the same time, most will lie about damage they HAVE cause, upon returning the bike. So generally the cheats are just trying to out-cheat the cheaters.

But the fleecing of tourists - same as the jet-ski scams - I hate. It gives us honest and fair rental companies a bad name. If you cant earn an honest baht, dont earn one at all.

  4. The Urgency seems like a Scam.

<deleted> are you talking about you fool? I just need it here soon. <deleted> off back under your bridge.

Bangkok Bank provide one of the better routes, but you need a Bangkok Bank account in Thailand.

You transfer the money to the Bangkok Bank branch in London, and the money will be on your Thai Bangkok Bank account the next day (usually). Costs £20 and the exchange rates are usually better than most.

This is an option. Thanks very much Fritz, will look into this option.

  5. If it's an old bike , 7 years I think, it has to be inspected & certificate supplied. That can be done on the road to Lipa Noi. There are 2 inspection stations there, one at the start & one near the end both on your right. They are denoted by a picture of a gear.

when a bike is 5 years old you need the inspection

and to get the tax, all you need is the green book, the inspection certificate if its 5 years or older, then take it to the DLT and get your insurance and tax done in about 15 minutes. cost is approx 424 baht for a standard 100-125cc bike.

but as others have said, there are several agents around samui that will do the service for around 500 baht inclusive.

  6. It is now an every night thing again. For awhile it was occasional. Now, every night past about 9pm, one can hear their music blaring incessantly, until 2am. They are an unbelievable blight on the face of Samui. A boil on the skin of the island. A pestilence tearing at the very fabric of the island. And nobody does anything. Mayor Ramnate, are you sleeping at the wheel, once again? What important business are you attending to, anyway? Five star hotels are suffering, and you are doing what, exactly?

jeez mate, lighten up. you should go down there and have a few beers its a great night out, best bar on samui

WRONG ! Best bar on the island by far is Billabong Bar in Lamai, with 50 stunning dancers at any one time in skimpy outfits that are changed colour and style daily ! Ark Bar blleeaagghh !!!!

Off topic, but LOLOLOLOL to stunning dancers at Billabong.

All you ever get at Billabong are 6ft ladymen, gays, and fat girls....and cashiers who try to overcharge and shortchange you.

A few years ago it used to be good, very good. But these days its like a house of horrors.

    Anyway, carry on.......

  7. Hi guys,

I keep on getting a recurring injury from playing football, and I think its about time that I saw someone to try resolve the problem.

Does anyone know of, or can recommend any Drs or therapists/specialists who specialise in this area?

Im not looking for a massage guy, but more of a Dr or physiotherapist who can help me recover, and advise how to strengthen the affected area (hip flexor muscle).

    Thanks in advance

    Ian.

  8. Definitely use Padang Besar, far easier than Sadao.

Dont need to walk across, just do it in your car. You dont need any Malaysian plates to do this.

I too have never seen any car hire at Donsak Pier.

1st ferry 5am, but you will need to book well in advance to get on this ferry with a car, same with the 6am and often the 7am ferry. Last ferry is either 6pm or 7pm, not quite sure.

At this point it would be far easier to just book with a visa run company, IMO.

    Good luck!

  9. Just after turning into the road to the DVLA (about as far from FV as is possible without getting your feet wet!) there's a place on the right that will do it while you wait. From there you can proceed to DVLA a kilometer or so away.

Take a Thai speaker if possible.

    HTH

There are 2 on this soi. One at the top of nearer to the traffic lights (never tried this one). Also one towards the bottom end, about 50 metres before the left bend and entrance to Lipa Noi beach. Ive used the one nearest to the beach a few times, for both car and bike. They are very efficient and speak good english in there too.
