  1. Scotland's winless run stretched to six games as their wastefulness in front of goal was compounded by a late collapse against the Netherlands in Amsterdam. Steve Clarke's side impressed for long durations against the Dutch, and spurned a succession of glorious chances, but were dealt a harsh lesson in ruthlessness at the elite level. Trailing with 18 minutes left to Tijiani Reijnders' fabulous first-half strike, the Scots then lost three cheap goals in the final stages to flip the narrative from an encouraging evening to a chastening night. Georginio Wijnaldum and Wout Weghorst netted, before Donyell Malen added a fourth for a Dutch side short of their best. Scotland have now conceded 18 goals in six games, with just three friendly matches to play before they face hosts Germany in the opening game of Euro 2024. Shankland's flaws become strengths in role reversal Scotland 'can't keep doing this' after more Dutch misery Podcast: 'I've been here twice and seen Scotland concede 10' Keep up to date with Scotland news from BBC Sport Playing in their new Euros kit, a gallus Scotland looked the part for large spells of the contest. Lawrence Shankland caught the eye on just his second start, as did Ryan Christie in his slightly altered role. The Bournemouth midfielder thumped a header on goal, but Mark Flekken pushed it on to the bar. Cody Gakpo was a threat at the other end. The Liverpool forward was inches away from slipping the offside trap, flung cute crosses into the box, and took a theatrical flop over Scott McTominay in search of a penalty. No card was shown for such dramatics. Just when it seemed Scotland would go in at the break level, Reijnders' rocket changed the script. The visitors were too generous in allowing the AC Milan midfielder to take Gakpo's lay-off and lash beyond Angus Gunn. FULL REPORT
  2. Karl Moore's bid to become Ireland's first Bellator champion ended in heartbreak at the hands of American Corey Anderson in Belfast on Friday. Anderson, 34, cruised to an unanimous points victory to claim Bellator's light-heavyweight title. Moore's chances hinged on a stoppage victory but the local fighter was largely dominated over five rounds. All three judges scored it for Anderson, who ended a near 11-year wait to win a world title in MMA. Anderson joined Bellator in 2020 in search of world honours after six years in the UFC and in Belfast was competing in his second world title fight in the promotion. The Illinois native has often shied away from the spotlight, but thousands of miles away from home he finally grasped the prize he has reached for since he turned pro in 2013. Anderson did it relying on his strengths, wrestling and cardio, relentlessly and methodically crushing the fight out of Moore. Full Report
  3. Second T20, Nelson England 149-7 (20 overs): Knight 56* (40); Mair 2-25, Devine 2-30 New Zealand 134-8 (20 overs): Kerr 44 (36); Bell 2-24, Dean 2-28 England won by 15 runs Scorecard England captain Heather Knight made another half-century as her side beat New Zealand by 15 runs in the second T20 to take a 2-0 series lead. England stumbled to 77-6 after being asked to bat but Knight, who made 56 not out, hauled England up to a competitive 149-7 in Nelson. New Zealand were 100-3 but the wicket of Amelia Kerr (44) started a collapse of five wickets for eight runs. They finished on 134-8 with Lauren Bell the pick of the bowlers with 2-24. All of England's frontline bowlers took a wicket, including left-arm spinner Linsey Smith having Suzie Bates caught at short fine leg with her first ball in international cricket since June 2019. The next game in the five-match series is from 00:00 GMT on Sunday at the same venue. Why Bell put England before £30,000 WPL deal England's batting leaves more questions than answers Coming into this series England probably knew five of their top seven for the T20 World Cup that takes places in Bangladesh from late September. Danni Wyatt, Alice Capsey and Nat Sciver-Brunt - who will switch to this series from the fourth game after their involvement in the Women's Premier League - are set to join Knight and Amy Jones. Three players - Sophia Dunkley, Tammy Beaumont and Maia Bouchier - are fighting for the second opener role and all fell in tame fashion. REPORT
  4. rephrased, which would apply to most, would you stand there and let someone knock you out ! Because that's what it would really amount to. For that money, absolutely! do it for a lot less too.😀
  5. Is it the dogs or your attitude and fear the dogs are picking up on. I simple walking stick raised when required should do the trick, as others have stated you need to be assertive. A water pistol works well too.😀 But mostly it's all about you and how they perceive you, that you need to address.

  14. The Pittsburgh Steelers have traded for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields - just a day after signing former Super Bowl winner Russell Wilson. After leaving Denver, Wilson, 35, was set to be Pittsburgh's new starter after they traded the incumbent Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles. But now the Steelers have also brought in Fields, the Bears' starter since being a first-round draft pick in 2021. "Ready for this next chapter," the 25-year-old said on X., external "Can't say thank you enough to the city of Chicago for taking me in and embracing me." A mobile quarterback, Fields showed flashes of his athleticism during his first two years with Chicago, although some questioned whether he relied too much on his legs to escape pressure. After just three wins in 2022, Chicago had the first pick of last year's draft but kept faith in Fields by trading that pick to the Carolina Panthers for receiver DJ Moore and several draft picks. Those included Carolina's first-round pick this year, which turned out to be the first overall as the Panthers finished last season with the NFL's worst record. Meet Bears quarterback Justin Fields - the 'superstar' set to be future MVP? NFL free-agency: Cousins, Jones and Henry among biggest 2024 deals The Bears did improve to a 7-10 record and Fields leaned more on his passing game in 2023, throwing for 2,562 yards and 16 touchdowns, while his rushing yards almost halved from 1,143 to 657. But this time Chicago decided to move on from Fields - and that they could not pass up on that first overall pick a second time - especially with several quarterbacks being among the most highly-rated prospects in this year's draft class. "Thank you to the entire Bears organisation and ownership for allowing me the opportunity to be part of such a historic franchise," Fields added. READ MORE
  15. Second Twenty20 International, Sharjah Afghanistan 152-9 (20 overs): Nabi 59, Atal 352, Rashid 25; Adair 3-27, Little 2-20, McCarthy 2-33 Ireland 142-8 (20 overs): Balbirnie 45, Delany 39, Stirling 24; Rashid 4-14, Kharote 2-23 Afghanistan win by 10 runs Full scorecard Mohammad Nabi's 59 and Rashid Khan's 4-14 helped Afghanistan level the Twenty20 series against Ireland. Afghanistan slumped to 14-4 early on in Sharjah after Josh Little and Mark Adair both took two wickets. But Nabi's 38-ball innings helped the Afghans post a competitive 152-9. Ireland looked on course to win the series as they reached 49-0 in 5.1 overs before wickets tumbled and despite late big hitting from Gareth Delany, they could only reach 142-8. Skipper Paul Stirling was bowled by Nangeyalia Kharote and while Ireland rallied to reach 68-1, Rashid dismissed Lorcan Tucker and Harry Tector in successive balls to turn the contest in Afghanistan's favour. Nabi then caught and bowled Curtis Campher before Kharote crucially trapped Andrew Balbirnie lbw after the Ireland Test skipper had reached 45. The Irish looked set for a heavy defeat as franchise star Rashid bowled George Dockrell and Mark Adair to leave them on 95-7 but Delany produced late resistance as he hit four sixes in an 18-ball 39 before departing off a Fazalhaq Farooqi delivery, with Sediqullah Atal taking the catch. Nabi's inning included three sixes and six fours, with Atal (35) and Rashid (25) also making vital contributions with the bat after Little and Adair had ripped through Afghanistan's top order. Little bowled Rahmanullah Gurbaz to leave the Afghans on 6-1 with Adair dismissing Ibrahim Zadran and Mohammad Ishaq in successive balls before Azmatullah Omarzai was out for a duck off another Little delivery. However, Nabi and Atal steadied the Afghanistan innings with a vital 79-run partnership. The series decider will take place in Sharjah on Monday, which will round off three weeks of action between the counties, Ireland having won the one-off Test in Abu Dhabi before the Afghans clinched a 2-0 victory in a one-day series where one of the games had to be abandoned because of rain. Ireland earned a 38-run victory in the T20 series opener on Friday when Tector hit 56 and Ben White took four Afghanistan wickets. COURTESY OF
  16. For much of the last 40 minutes at the Aviva, Scotland resembled a fighter on the ropes - pummelled but refusing to go down, surviving on instinct and pride. In Rome last week these same players folded under the pressure, but this was the other side of their split personality. This was belligerence and incredible cussedness. If Scotland's accuracy in attack deserted them - the sloppiness in possession was again a curse - it is hard to remember such a prolonged period of assaults on the Scottish line met with such resistance. The tackle count was astronomical, the aggression through the roof. Tadhg Furlong denied. Calvin Nash denied. Garry Ringrose denied. Robbie Henshaw denied. Houdini would have applauded some of the escapology out there while scratching his head over Scotland constantly inviting Ireland on to them after daft errors. Townsend 'really proud' despite Scotland loss Irish retain title by wearing down heroic Scottish defence All the news, views & updates on Scottish rugby Listen to the BBC Scotland rugby podcast Long before the final minutes, Scotland had crashed through the 200 barrier in terms of tackles made. Most of the Scots were into double figures on the stats. Their survival technique was almost surreal at times. There were Irish gripes about Furlong's try not being awarded and George Turner's head-on-head with Furlong not being punished and both were legitimate. There were Scottish gripes about Andrew Porter's game-breaking score being awarded and that was legitimate, too. There looked to be Irish obstruction in that move. This was the third meeting of these nations in a year. Unlike in Paris in the autumn, when Scotland were trounced early, and Murrayfield in the spring of last year when they fell away late on, this was resilience from start to finish. Scotland lost, but at least they turned up. They gifted Ireland seven points in what proved to be a four-point game, but their doggedness was beyond dispute. And right at the end there was a hint of a sensation, a suggestion of a rope-a-dope that would have made the Rumble in the Jungle look like a warm-up routine. READ MORE

  18. Rory McIlroy says he hopes a meeting between players on the PGA Tour board and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund "gets us closer to a solution" to the split in golf. Negotiations are continuing between the PGA Tour and the PIF, which funds LIV Golf, about a potential merger. PGA player-director Patrick Cantlay said a meeting with PIF representatives will take place on Monday. "It should've happened months ago, so I am glad it's happening," said McIlroy. The Northern Irishman, 34, added: "Hopefully that progresses conversations and gets us closer to a solution." Scheffler first to defend Players title at Sawgrass The PGA Tour and DP World Tour announced plans for a shock merger with PIF in June, but they failed to reach an agreement by a previous deadline at the end of 2023. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan recently met with PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan, who is also Newcastle United's chairman. A report in Golfweek said the PGA Tour's player-directors were set to also meet Al-Rumayyan, with Jordan Spieth adding on Saturday they were being "encouraged" to meet with PIF. Spieth and Cantlay are two of six player-directors on the PGA Tour board, along with Tiger Woods, Adam Scott, Webb Simpson and Peter Malnati. McIlroy resigned from the PGA Tour's Policy Board in November. Speaking at The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, Cantlay said he is planning on doing "a lot more listening than talking" in the meeting and will "have a lot more information after". The American added that while he doubted the two parties "will get into anything substantive in the first meeting", he is "all for" any eventual deal to reunite golf that is "in the best interests of the PGA Tour membership". 20. No Johnny Sexton, Dan Biggar, Owen Farrell or Antoine Dupont. The 2024 Six Nations was an opportunity for new stars to emerge in the absence of some of the sport's household names. BBC Sport takes a look at each nation and their young talent aged 22 or under who stepped up this campaign. England The international retirements of Courtney Lawes and Jonny May from England's old guard opened the door for 20-year-old flanker Chandler Cunningham-South and 21-year-old winger Immanuel Feyi-Waboso. Harlequins forward Cunningham-South caught the eye of former Scotland captain John Barclay when he made a 14-minute debut from the bench in England's opening win over Italy. "He's an enormous human being," Barclay said on the BBC's Six Nations Rugby Special. "He's the same sort of shape as LeBron James, he can move, he's physical, and we've just seen the very start of him." A genuine X-factor player, Feyi-Waboso showed his finishing prowess with a try off the bench in England's defeat at Murrayfield. Rewarded with a starting place in England's last-gasp victory over Ireland, the Exeter Chief wowed the Twickenham crowd with his pace and power and such was his impact, his talents were missed when injury ruled him out of the final game in France. Leicester lock George Martin was ruled out of England's first two games because of injury but came back into the starting team to face defending champions Ireland. A robust 80-minute performance followed where the 22-year-old may have established himself as England's number one enforcer with dominant tackles and carries throughout. France The temporary loss of superstar scrum-half Antoine Dupont to the France sevens team proved a bigger issue than first anticipated. Fabien Galthie dropped Maxime Lucu for Racing 92 scrum-half Nolann le Garrec for the trip to Cardiff in round four and the 21-year-old repaid his coach's faith with a player-of-the-match performance in his first Six Nations start. An audacious 40-yard reverse pass to set up a break down the wing summed up his fearless and energetic display, and he impressed again in the narrow win over England as France recovered their spark. "Le Garrec has to be the find of this tournament," said former England wing Chris Ashton. "He's a real talent." Louis Bielle-Biarrey broke into France's senior team at the World Cup but lost his place for the opening Six Nations game against Ireland. The 21-year-old wing made his Six Nations debut in Les Bleus' victory at Murrayfield and conjured up one of the tries of the tournament with the match-winning score from a chip and chase. Aged 19, Posolo Tuilagi, nephew of England's Manu, was the youngest Six Nations debutant this campaign. Following a destructive display in his first start against Italy, illness ruled the lock out of the victory against Wales before he was released back to their Under-20 side in a bid to stop England's title challenge. Weighing in at just over 23 stones, he has all the attributes to become a Six Nations great. READ MORE
  21. Erik ten Hag's future as Manchester United manager was never going to be definitively shaped by one game but even the taciturn Dutchman must have known how much was riding on the FA Cup quarter-final meeting with Liverpool at Old Trafford. A defeat would have only hardened belief that Ten Hag is not the right fit to take United forward within the revamped football structure being assembled by new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. A win might just be enough to persuade the rulers inside Old Trafford's hierarchy that Ten Hag is their man. And what a win it was after a head-spinning game overflowing with the ingredients Old Trafford loves. Manchester United's 4-3 victory was sealed in the dying seconds of extra time in front of the Stretford End. Just like old times. This was the biggest and most spectacular result of Ten Hag's United career - and may just be the result that gives him a long-term future at Old Trafford. If United had lost then the noise surrounding him would have been deafening. Old Trafford instead rocked to the noise of the biggest celebrations the self-styled "Theatre Of Dreams" has witnessed in years. Will it be a game-changer for Ten Hag? Only time will tell, but a victory of such significance will not do him any harm as Ratcliffe plots United's route forward.
