  1. This is a load of crap. As slapout pointed out, your son would not have had a Thai ID and would therefore not have been "on the books". Even if he is, he's exempt from any callup because he's presently living overseas. Additionally, the individual directly participates in the lottery to determine selection for compulsory service, which he could not reasonably be expected to attend.

Call their bluff, talk to the Army Attache.

No its not crap, my ex's family are great guys, my son used to go to school in Thailand for about 5 years, he has a Tabien Bahn and ID card, he is now 18 years old. i have tried and tried to get advice from the Thai Embassy London but its like drawing teeth, i got a decent response from the consulate lady in Hull but it was not what i wanted to hear as she confirmed the probability of my sons arrest on arrival, even advising us on our return to go in on his UK passport

I will try again with the Attache theme but i must admit its the first ive heard about those guy existing, even my Thai freinds in the UK did not know. Thank you for all who tried to help i just hope i can get passed the press 3 option when i phone the Embassy again ( i could'nt all last week)

Has an official call up letter come? If not, then don't worry.

Being out of the country (and importantly, not having anyone to go and report in your place) is a perfectly valid excuse. When i finally reported (aged 29) I was required to pay a 200 baht fine, and that was it and they issued my release certificate for being too old. The max fine was 400 baht, but cause I volunteered to turn up, they lowered it to 200.

For broader information, check out a recent thread I wrote on the issue.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Thai-Militar...58#entry3157358

If they decide to REALLY chase him, then assuming he is in university education, then the embassy in London can issue a certificate certifying that is the case which will release him from that obligation while he is studying.

I came and went often from Thailand before I was 30 on a Thai passport and stayed for extended periods of time. Immigration and the Military don't talk to each other, so there is no problem for him to come back as often and as long as it is possible. But remember, if he does move back permanently, before 30, he is obliged to report.

200 baht Samran. Bloody good deal.

  2. From my understanding of going ons here @ thai visa, if a moderator is actively involved in a debate on the forum then he or she generally doesnt moderate on that same thread.

What on earth is going on in your mind to think that the moderators have to put something in their person profile information to justify that their posts should be taken more seriously than others. If a moderator expresses his view or opinon in a post, thats not the gospil, just their personal opinion.

I find this a very strange thread jazzbo, what on earth have you been taking?

    nothing over the counter. :)

  3. I'm a bit of a movie buff, and a car fanatic. I drive a red Yaris, so if you want to know anything about these lil cars, let me know :D

A movie buff? Then you must be familiar with Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange" - If so, you must keep quiet about it at all costs. Especially if you have a French Connection.

    Welcome to ThaiVisa Kitsch. :):D

  4. "Yaba" (amphetamines) does this to people

Making excuses for their actions for them already ??....Sorry your worship, it wasnt me, it was the Yaba....this is one of the problems in the world today...No one will take responsibility for their actions and always trying to blame somebody or something else for their actions...

It isn't a defence in a Thai Court.

  5. There certainly is an element here that has nothing better to do than bash Taksin, I am not a supporter but isn't time to get over it?

There's not a chance while Thaksin continues to push his own political barrow, oversee the reds, and continue to do provocative things like his Cambodia involvement.

  6. Not a very clear story by the Nation. "so the Thai government should extradite Kinch". "The Criminal Court Friday extradited a Briton to Australia"

Either way it seems these things are so easy to do when its ordinary citizens facing charges. When it's politicians facing charges then countries don't renew visas and ask them to leave' as in Takki's many flights from so called "democracies". Uk included .

Well, it helps if the person is accused of something that would be considered a crime in the country that is being asked to extradite him. :D In the UK it's not a crime if the Prime Minister's wife buys land. :) Maybe a better comparison would be Rakesh Saxena? Do you know the name? Took 13 years to get him back, but they finally did. Now we can wait to see if they end up convicting him of anything. A lot of people who are very powerful now got money from his scams back then. I think now we'll see if any people who are powerful now were hurt by his scams back then. I take come satisfaction that his partner Krirkkiat is in jail for about 145 years. :D

Would the UK PMs wife be in deep strife if she purchased land from a UK government authority in dodgy circumstances ?

  7. If I was him I would contest the treaty, because the last modification and signature of that treaty was back in 1911, and according to the same treaty today it contains new offences that never existed in 1911.

Someone has made major modifications to it to allow to be extradited for basically any type of crime, which under international law, is deemed unsafe, as the document is simply a modification not agreed in parliment.

And if someone says this is BS, well back in 2004 UK tried to extradite me for Breach of Probation, only had 1 month left on it, I contested the treaty in court in Bangkok, and won the case.

Good for you. But Autralia and Thailand do not, and never did have, a formal extradition treaty.

  8. Earlier this year a couple of Thai nationals alledgedly fled Australia back home after knifing to death an Australian good samaritan who got involved in a dust up. I wonder what the chances are of them being brought back for trial. Greater than 0 at least it seems.

There is very little chance. Thailand has the death penalty, Australia does not. The legal complexities are way too difficult. Have a chat to a well versed international law expert.

  9. Do you actually have a visa issued by embassy/consulate abroad, or are you on visa exempt entry? 7 day extension would apply to the latter. Immigration can ask to see whatever documents they want.

Sounds a bit like that doesn't it ? Mind you the officer may have taken exception to a lack of sartorial splendour on the part of the applicant. :) The OP is a four post newbie and I see that two of them are in the trash. He does tend to get a lil bit

aggressive if all isn't going his way.

  10. 'Takki/Tacky' by nature now by name.

The global media presents him as a fool in the global media, and the Thai government appears equally helpless in its clueless attempt to capture him.

On the international stage Thailand is portrayed as a weak and ineffectual regime; which is not true. However, unless Khun Abhisit acts decisively the portrayal will persist and the country's repuation will be damaged forever.

Do we need a pom newbie commenting on Thai politics ? ( it is REPUTATION Jack )

  11. Yeah, but if all of his frozen assets are taken from him permanently and if he also receives many more years jail sentence, will he have both the drive and MOTIVATION to continue this fight?

and the funds.............My opinion is that he cant win without violence. I equate win with his return to full control over Thailnad. I just wonder how far he is prepared to go? Violent Civil unrest he is happy to create, but Civil war?, assasination?, invasion? Regicide?

His agenda is whatever it takes.
