  1. Never been asked for a return ticket out of thailand in 35 years of flying here, no matter where i was travelling from nor was i ever asked when i boarded from any country.

Fly in get ur 30 days then travel down to Malayasia, singapore, fly to bali, or travel overland to Cambodia and fly back via air asia ( $69) fly back into thailand get another 30 days before ur departure date,

    There are 100's of options.

I see No problem. People here tend to always look at the worst and i have no idea why

Has it been awhile since you flew in ?

  2. ....on the way home from all day session with few of my mates ........

....i wandered over to the drinks fridge to get a few Chang Large for a nightcap...

    ...no further comment needed :D:D:D

    :)

  3. I don't work or do business here but think I have a pretty solid grasp on the environment - all I can say is that if I were to go into business in Thailand I would avoid the tourism industry or anything servicing Farang like the plague. It is becoming more and more clear that the Thai's are not too concerned about tourism and expats are not wanted.

That said, the country and especially the region and Asia in general, have a bright future, much better than America or Europe - and the economy and market focused on serving the Thai's will only get stronger and stronger. The problem with cashing in on this is you have to have a keen understanding of what Thai's want and more important, what they will want in the future.

I don't know of many examples of Foreigners mastering marketing to Thai's or providing services to Thai's - but that is where you want to be.

Many of the business copiers have big pensions and will continue to stay open even if they are losing money hand over fist

Is there a Blizzard in the air ?

Are you referring to Thai's or Farang with large pensions? Or both...? What types of businesses do these people run, bars?

good post and very true....in 10 years time the thais will not need western tourists(as much!)and especially expats...unfortunately china has taken over the marketing stratagies in Thailand and hence this is why they control marketing forces all over the country. And due to the high ratio of Thai/Chinese/japanese businesses this is where the future for the east and industries in general is.....low costs, high turnover!

    westerners beware!! :)

can you point out the chinese marketing strategies being employed in thailand! do the thais know they are being controlled by chinese marketers?

  4. Nope.!!!

family member is sufficient father mother who ever has her/his own houseregistration on HOUSE OWNER.........NOT DEPENDENT.

they even provide you with a yellow book

    (dont have to be married)

In order to have a house registration your wife needs to be resident in Thailand. It is a sort of residence certificate.

The YELLOW book is only for eligible farang.

  5. :)

The airline may be the problem...but I have only had one airline actually ask in over 30 years of traveling to Thailand.

If they let you on the plane, you should have no problems. As a Norweigian you should be able to get a 30 day stamp on arrival. Yes, you should have a return ticket but Thai immigration rarely asks that.

Before your 30 day entry stamp expires, book a short flight from BKK to Vientiane, Laos. Get yourself a 60 day tourist visa...I believe they are still free of charge until March 2010 now...to encourage tourisim to Thailand. You will need a cheap hotel in Vientiane because it will take two days...you apply in the morning of the first day and pick it up on the next day in the afternoon. That 60 day tourist visa can be extended in Bangkok for another 30 days if needed.

That should carry you to April.

The other choice is to get a tourist visa from the Thai consulate in Oslo or wherever. A 60 day Tourist Visa should currently be free until march 2010 as I mentioned. All it would cost is the travel to the Thai consulate. I realise you are short of time now, but it could be done in two days if you visit the consulate personally...again once to turn in the application, and then return the next day to pick up the visa.

    :D

The current rules are an onward ticket within 30 days of entry or a Thai visa. Please don't comment on current Thai visa matters of which you have lamentable knowledge.

  6. Im on no bodies side except a peaceful and prosperous Thailand......

Maybe one way to bring the sides together is for the Govt to suspend Thaksin's prison sentence and invite him to be an advisor to the Govt as Cambodia etc has done.

That way the Govt makes peace with the reds, keeps Thaksin in check and under control. Can set certain parameters that he needs abide by to stay out of Jail. He is in the country so if he puts a foot wrong they can grab him easily.

After all the charges were retrospectively "trumped up" to get him out anyway. A little backtracking and all the problem is solved.

Now wait for the flamers to arrive......

    Have another drink :)

  7. Try Sunbelt Asia. They charged a mate of mine B2,000 to check if his name was on it. This was 3-4 years ago, though!

Too unreliable. The updates are a bit spasmodic. Get a Thai Consulate in the UK to check the up to date updates at the Embassy in London as part of a visa application. Unless she was a superstar, something like the blacklist would not be a

thing she could influence at all.

  8. Love him or hate him you have to admire this guy, he is larger than life.

And the biggest thorn in the side of the current government by far. :D

A fossilized brontosuarus turd is larger than life too,

can't say i want it visiting me either.

He is motivated by 'appearances of being of great importance',

and is willing to spend foolishly to gain that appearance.

I was speaking to some very well educated chinese businessman in kuala lumpur and they said their network of friends followed the thaksin/PAD saga and that they actually backed thaksin more than this government as thaksin was more open and did alot more for the country and the poor and realised that problems were thai not blame on others like farang. Also they stated that PAD seemed to want thailand to be same as china with very strict human rights etc.. etc.. They actully felt the pad was no better than the BNP in england the only difference being BNP are racist working class <deleted> and PAD are middle class racist <deleted>. Would like to hear view of other nations in asia and not the usual farangs on here!

Ok this was just one group of businessman from china but maybe these feeling are more widespread???

".........to be the same as China with very strict human rights.........." :)
