I never ate street food when I lived in Thailand (except fruit), I also never got sick. How long has the raw food been out of the refrigerator or freezer. Where does the operator of the food stall go to the toilet and where do they wash their hands?

Another thing worth knowing when flying, most airlines in the world ban seafood from pilot's on-duty diets.

They are not blaming street food the accusation is against food from a food court.

Book your ticket with a premium credit card and travel insurance is free

Never tried to use it though.

I read the terms seems legit

I was always dubious about CC insurance but have been using it for many years. Before the first time I decided to rely on it, I rang the bank and asked questions about motorbike taxis etc etc and was told I was covered. You have to keep in mind most will cover for a 3 month trip at a time, but you can have multiple trips in 1 year.

5 years ago I got to test it out, the insurance paid out a hospital bill on something that I was sure they would not cover, and did so without hesitation.

Some of those countries actually have a compulsory service charge added to the bill, talk about what you know about.

Switzerland it is always included in the bill.

Denmark it is also included in the bill.

Belgium it is also included in the bill.

Sweden it is often added to the bill but if not it is still expected.

    Who mentioned compulsory service charge?

I said tip, a tip is something you give voluntarily not compulsory.

Please try to keep up and keep on subject.

Out of interest, which Western countries are you referring to that don't have a tipping policy?

Sent from my iPad using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, Iceland, France, Finland, Denmark, Belgium etc.

Maybe Sambum could have used his actual nationality that tips, for example

"However, being American, I am used to leaving a tip when the meal and service deserve it."

I do indeed! I am only talking from my own perspective, and I use the term "westerner" as opposed to "easterner" or "oriental" or "asian" or ............... whatever!

So the point that I am making would be even more annoying to someone from a Western country that didn't tip!

I was referring to this quote from you "However, being a westerner, I am used to leaving a tip when the meal and service deserve it."

It suggests that all western countries have a tipping policy, which of cause they don't.

Tipping - either to taxi drivers or waitresses should be a way of showing your gratitude for a job well done. These days it seems to be accepted as part of the package - whether that is a journey from A to B, or a steak and chips. When I go out to a Thai restaurant with my Thai wife, she always tells me not to leave a tip - "No need " she says. However, being a westerner, I am used to leaving a tip when the meal and service deserve it.

What does annoy me however, (and I refuse to pay it!) is the "compulsory"  "Service Charge" that some restaurants try to add on to the end of the bill (and also VAT)  Unless it is on the menu, in which case I have to accept it, but usually all I have to say is "Sorry, but there's nothing on the menu to indicate service charge or VAT " and usually the waiter/waitress will either scrub it themselves, ask me to sign the deleted item, or take it to the pay desk for the Manager/Manageress to rectify.

You do realise not all western countries tip? Don't you?

  7. I can't understand why so many are standing up for the taxi driver here, right from the start he lied about the meter not working!

Are the commenters here so used to being ripped off they think it is ok?

And for those that can't work out how the driver ended up with 200 baht for tolls when it would mean 2 notes, I'll give a hint, there were 3 toll gates. I'm sure you can work it out how the driver pulled it off.

Surely if this is the criteria used to prosecute and convict then the jails would be overflowing with past and current government representatives.

Its a joke and a farce. Selective justice to rid oneself of political foes.

Im not saying she is innocent but there would be scores of others that fit the same criteria and yet they roam free with impunity in a country where laws protect these shysters

Plenty of corrupt officials but most don't cost the country $8 billion US.

You definitely don't need a licence for a jet ski.. even a 6 year old can ride one. They should just have a proper training session beforehand with clear rules to keep a certain distance from others.

What I observed from a little more developed country (Croatia) where I was allowed to ride one at 10 years old, was that they had a remote control system that could be used to shut the engine in a second from the beach. So if you went too far, too near to the beach or too near to others they would shut the engine as a warning. You would restart and then continue, if you keep messing around they would shut the engine and come bring you back.

Legally you definitely do need a licence to operate a jetski in Thailand obviously this is never enforced, it is a boat licence. In Australia it is a separate licence known as a PWCL (personal watercraft licence), it involves practical, written and safety aspects to obtain. Maybe Croatia needs a little more developing.

  10. "Might be an airport there as well? Funny name something like Swampy lol.

Might be more to Samut Prakan than your teacher told you"

Let me make this simple for you, have a look at the link and scroll down to the map at the bottom. The red pin is Muang Samut Prakan and at the top right you will see Suvarnabhumi Airport.Incidentally I use to live in Prawet which is far closer to Suvarnabhumi Airport than Samut Prakan and amazingly,it's also NOT in Samut Prakan! rolleyes.gif

    http://www.tourismthailand.org/About-Thailand/Destination/Samut-Prakan

Unless someone has moved the airport Swampy is still in Samut Prakan.

If you can't understand that I'm sorry I can't help you.
