  1. I saw a Thai movie a few years ago. At one point a western male character fell down. A Thai man checks on him and his friend says in Thai"Is he OK?" The first Thai guy says in Thai, " No, his still a farang." The Thai audience in the theater laughed very loudly at this. When a Thai person uses the term farang, unless he is refering to a French national, it is always derogatory, mean spirited, bigoted and racist. You can believe anything you want but this is a fact.

    P

The Thai word farang and the Thai word for French national is in no way the same word.

    "ORIGIN OF THE WORD "FARANG"

A wide-spread belief in Thailand is that the word "farang" (Caucasian)

is derived from the French word "francais". This derivation is implausible

on phonetic and historical grounds. It is in fact a popular misconception.

It is true, however, that these words have the same ultimate source.

The word is attested in various forms in languages in Europe, Africa,

the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. It is clear that the

word orginated as "Frank" in Europe and spread eastwards along Muslim

    trade routes.

Thai most likely borrowed the word from influential Muslim Persian or

Indian traders in the 17th century or even earlier. The Persian word was

"farangg". The term probably was used to refer to early Portuguese

traders and subsequently to all Europeans (ie., non-Muslims).

It is possible that the Thai word "farangset" ("French") is a blend

of the word "farang" and the French word "francais", ie., "farangset" is

actually derived from "farang", not vice versa. Certainly, the word

"farang" existed prior to, and independently of, "farangset"."

  2. And LOOK AT THE TOPIC TITLE "KILLER BRIT" you should be ashamed!!!!!!! Worse than the bloody Nation!

While I agree with most of what you've been saying, it's worth pointing out that topic titles in the news section are often taken from the headline that was attached to the quoted article- that's just the way the news section in this forum works. You can see the original article here- http://www.phuketgaz...rticle9090.html

I understand what you say, it is just I would prefer it if the news section was locked, just post the news bits, then we could take everything else to another forum like "News Discussion "or "Farang Hypocrites" or whatever, just use the news forum to post news, not comments.

Maybe I'm missing something here??? If you don't wish to read the comments you have many choices, after reading article hit the back button or red X maybe even read it here http://www.phuketgazette.net/ .

Last time I looked this was a forum hence comments. I can't see the difference about having comments after the article or as you want on a different page/forum. You obviously read all the comments as you have posted many times on this subject. Maybe I'm just slow today and don't understand your post.

  3. I think in 12 months time you will think back on this and realize you have dodged a bullet, not so much because of the girls age but more her circumstances.

You would be constantly forking out more money for mums habits and that would put strain on the relationship giving it little or no chance of surviving. In Thailand you have to not only like your patner but her family also.

I'm just a little worried about this statement "We left the place where I done the tefl " . And you will be teaching english ????

  4. Well at least they have stopped the local racism between the thais on the local buses. Before the white thais would sit up front and the black (dum) thais would have to sit in the back, well now they have decided to call them all green instead of black and white. Now the dark green thais have to sit in back and light green sit in front. Problem fixed.

If only other nations could fix problems so easy.

  5. Have to agree with gerry bland, unimaginative and boring. Rap is supposed to make you want to dance, can't imagine support dancers making too many moves to this music.

Can't see you playing at CM2 anytime soon, would make good interlude music. Get creative change tempo upbeat at times through the song to awaken dancers from their slumber.

But then again I'm white and can't jump so what would I know.

  6. I don't care about the legalities of buying this house but if you know this house is being sold out from under someone without their knowledge be prepared to have your dogma run over by your karma and have very good house insurance with fire cover. And if your intending to live there may I suggest getting a couple of rottweiler's.

My guess is that if the husband/ boyfriend finds out that you knew the deal before buying the house he won't see the funny side. I know what I'd do and I'm a pacafist (most of the time).

  7. It would be good if justice in Thailand could be halfway trusted. Guilty or not, I wouldn't trust the Thai courts with a traffic ticket, let alone cases such as these.

Thai courts have nothing to do with this, what they are doing is extraditing these guys back to the countries that have issued the warrants. Now if you would have said you don't trust English and Cambodian courts it would make sense.
