  1. Where is the best place in Bangkok to have an Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and biopsies to test for Celiac Disease?

I have had dealings with Bangkok International Hospital and find them very good but not sure if they are the best place for this procedure, they diagnosed and operated on a bladder cancer for me 18 months ago and I found them excellent. I have since had two more cancer tumours removed one in the bladder and one in the ureter, this is why Celiac Disease has gone undiagnosed as I thought the symptoms were cancer related.

  2. But I thought the throwing of water was a sign of respect and was all good fun.

Are there some people throwing water out there with malice?

They have had the privilege to watch ice-water-throwing-moron-Falangs for so long, they slowly but surely start to believe it's the norm.

    Cheers.

If you believe that I think you are quite nieve Swissie. I don't think Thais need falang to show them how to have a good time.

  3. also take into account that the pump will clog with mud from the bottom of the well, and will thus need constant maintenance. For Thailand this means that once you do not watch over preventive maintenance, a word not contained in Thai language, nobody will care about the pump.

Not sure about that? For starters the pump will/should not be on the very bottom of the bore.

I have 2 bore pumps 1 a grundfos been in over 30 years and never been touched the other a hitachi 6 years old never had a problem also. It is soft water also.

  4. Quote

"If the government banks do not care about farmers, the group of farmers will withdraw their money from those banks and will embargo government banks' services, he said."

So the poor farmers with no money will withdraw that money they don't have from the bank and never put the money they don't have back into the bank?

    Interesting.

Why would the Dems want to participate in this election? They might well win and why on earth would a captain want to take over a sinking ship. No one knows exactly what state of affairs the country is in.

  5. Farmers are not dumb peasants as some would have us believe, with the advent of better communications and social media the truth is filtering through.

Your post is very good, and I found this line to be the most salient point re; Thailand's recent situation. PTP got into power and went into full trough-mode, the 'grabbing hands' as the saying goes. They spent years messing around, wasting time, and pushing corrupt policies, none of which benefit the normal farmers and factory workers who voted for PTP on the solemn promise that this party represented the poor and honest working Thai.

But as you so correctly say (above) the PTP voters are not stupid, and in recent months (pre-demo) we were seeing PTP voters criticising their party. This was a good sign, I would say this criticism is the green shoots indicating a healthy organism. My hopes were that this process of PTP voters engaging with and demanding much more from their party, would be allowed to play out and indeed snowball, into a truer form of representation.

But this process requires elections too. If Suthep gets his Assembly, PTP voters will switch their criticism and anger, which was recently directed at their own party's failings, and re-direct this positive constructive energy into negative energy, in battling the new Assembly. My accusation against Suthep since early December has really been that he is de-railing the slow but natural process of voter empowerment within PTP, and the corresponding lowering of corruption and raising of performance within the leadership.

I agree with all you have said but I guess they thought they could not sit back and let the amnesty bill go through.

Maybe it is time to regroup, allow elections to take place. Surely there is not much left in the pot. I know it will not be good for Thailand but if you give PTP enough rope they will surely hang themselves, the country will be broke, the people who voted for them will still be broke and who will they have to blame?

  6. Don't we pay fees already? When you need a new passport you pay a fee. When you need them to stamp a document, you pay a fee. (And not small either). What else do they do?

Pretty sure that if you were "in trouble overseas" a lawyer or a doctor would be important, but a bumbling public servant is not.

Maybe Australians are just idiots, or milking the system, but why would you ever request help from the government when private industries provide much better service?

I never knew lawyers and doctors supplied financial assistance Time Traveller.
  7. Indeed I don't know of anyone that has been so much as thumped by a taxi driver. Then again I have only been here 20 years so give it time.

There was the story about an American being hacked to death by a Taxi driver using Samurai Sword. No I didn't know him either. I did see the video from CCTV so am sure it happened.

    jb1

    Yep, old news.

There you go. It seems that you do know of someone. Unless you don't believe that it actually happened!

    jb1

    Didn't know him

Kurnell seems you don't know the difference between "know" and "know of".

You stated in your post "know of" .

  8. My maths are not that fantastic these days, but Naam, if you are looking, is this something like 153%? (AER)

    it is bah.gif

    No it's not, it's 360%, 36,000 on 10,000.

AER Harry (Annual Equivalent Rate) . Can also have EAR (Equivalent Annual Rate) APR Annual Percentage Rate. My calculations are 120% per annum flat over a 3 year term, Or 10% a month flat rate .

  9. Personally I am glad he changed his plea to not guilty, this means he will get no time cut off his sentence for a guilty plea, if found guilty.

I would guess his lawyer thought the evidence against him is overwhelming and the best outcome for him would be to plead guilty and recieve a reduced sentence.

There is no excuse for a lawyer not showing up in a murder case, even if it was sentencing and the accused was to plead guilty.

My guess is the lawyer will turn up next time with his tail between his legs and change the plea back to guilty. Not sure if the judge will be at all amused.

  10. The shop next to my house has two lots come every afternoon for payment always same time and within 30 minutes of each other, I know when the shop owner doesn't have the money as she walks down the street and borrows money from who ever she can to pay them. I have told my wife not to give money to her as once she starts she won't stop.

Anyway the other day I see the shop lady come in our yard and approach my wife, I see them talk and my wife gives her 500 baht . I go see my Mrs and she explains she is smart as she told her if money is not paid back in a week she will send me to the shop everyday to get beer until the loan is paid off.

I then inform my wife there is no beer in her fridge and hasn't been for weeks, infact there is nothing in her fridge anymore.

    Now who is smart?

  11. Tingtongtourist it may be in your best interest to research a little before posting statistics and reread your posts before posting. Your reference to Australians being the largest percentage of deaths of tourists in Thailand seems floored. A simple Google search would suggest this.

Your beer pricing calculations of 5 to 1 seems a bit off also, my calculations make beer in Oz about 30 to 50% more expensive.

You have labeled passengers who fly Air Asia as "bogans" and then admitted you fly with them?

May I suggest you adhere to that age old line "remove all doubt"

Cheers I'm off to have a 20 baht beer.(I wish)

  12. Wantan I think what people are trying to get across to you is Honda do make bikes like this in "real size" xr , cr etc . This new bike is to compete in the growing popularity of minatures and at a fraction of the cost of a "real size" bike.
Would be fun around the farm.

  13. What so many people are missing is the fact that this guy was so stressed after the collision and chat with his dad that he had to have some booze to calm his nerves................ At least that's their version of why this much alcohol was in his system 12 hours later.

And the prosecution will simply point out the fact that Mr Red Bull is an intelligent business man running a mulinational company and would know that in all likely hood his son would be drug and alcohol tested after such a horific accident and would not likely have administered alcohol but infact done everything in his powers to lower his sons blood alcohol content.

  14. It seems there are more scams than legit dealings going on these days. I have just started looking for a motorhome to buy to do a trip around Australia, I spent a week looking at classified ads online, I finally picked out 2 to reply to. Both were scams.

I decided to see how they would play out so I exchanged emails for a week with them till I got bored then my final email to one of them was

    "Hi Stan

Does the initial deposit have to be in cash or can I pay in some other form of currency? I have some goats that you may be interested in. 1 is rather cute.

    Kind Regards

    xxxx "

Needless to say he has not replied, not a goat lover I guess.

They are very good at what they do, they had some very well thought out answers to my questions.

  15. Is anyone really surprised by this, lets face it the majority of the Brit teachers here aren,t qualified to teach anything and couldn,t hold down a job back home. The reason they are here is its the only place that will take them. Many off them to fond off the bottle aswell. I think we need more stringent checks on these people after all they are being left in charge of children. Does anyone know what school this unsavoury character passed himself off as a teacher at.

If you are going to put down english teachers in Thailand surely you would make sure your post was correct english, wouldn't you?"Many off them to fond off the bottle aswell" Mmmm

And read the OP again, it states the school.

  16. Not sure what people are complaining about, this is great it keeps Thailand a cheap place to visit and live. The more it is run like a Three Stoogers movie the longer it will take for them to be taken seriously on the world stage and will remain behind those smart nations like those dam_n

Singaporeans (smart little buggers). We don't want smart people investing in Thailand now do we.

Disclaimer: I own a house here but no land ( my wife owns the land and as per law had to sign legal document to say it was her money to purchase land).
