I agree and disagree with your comment.
Personally I think they look great and they are not useless as they give people a lot of recreational fun and excitement.
But there are many issues with these machines that strongly warrant a ban:
1) They are highly polluting and create a thin gasoline, oil and exhaust slick on the waters surface, this cotes swimmers in a petroleum film which is very unhealthy. Destroys marine life and the smell is horrible as well.
2) In the hands of amateurs (about 99% of users) they are potentially highly dangerous and in worst case scenarios can lead to death and serious injuries.
3) Noise pollution have you ever tried to relax and shut your eyes in a deck chair on a public beach? all you hear is the constant revving and droning sounds of motor craft.
4) The whole business of rentals on the beaches (of everything) of Thailand seems to be un-regulated and looks like some kind of mafia or organized crime related business.
5) Its not nice to see innocent visitors to Thailand getting ripped off even if they are from a culture that make them prime targets.
Basically they should be banned and only allowed during international water sport events such as the one they have once a year at Jomtien Beach.
Ugly & useless things. Can't they be banned?

I am not sure if this is a fact or rumor but I heard that Thailand buys most of Burma's natural gas directly from the Junta at a very low price, so "our" government has a vested interest in supporting them.
Can anyone correct me on this?

Perhaps this selling of child porn DVD business is a trap laid on by police.
The sick pervert buys a child porn DVD and as he leaves the stall is apprehended by the police and charged for being in possession of illegal child porn.
The same for those who pick up children and then raided by the police. Could be a honey trap or a scam organised by a family member of the child. A means of getting rich quick from a gullible farang.
So watch out if you`re a child molestor, it`s becoming more difficult for you to function here in Thailand
Unfortunately, that is not the case here. Yet.
Makes me sick to think about that stuff being allowed to be sold on the streets.
Yep makes sick to think that I don't live in Bangkok and cant get that stuff !!
but you will probably see the full selection on the shelves at your seveeen soon after they negotiate with the supplier, now they are all on board.

It is always good news when someones freedom is improved but its totally useless for her cause.
Such a shame Thailands goverment is keeping the generals rich in natural gas payments, turns my stomach when cooking with "blood gas"

What a pathetic twit.

To most people in most non SE asian countries they all look the same, but why the heck don't they hire a PI ?
Personally I think the authorities don't really want to catch him as he would be like plutonium in their hands.:jap:

Well... most 7-11's seem to have an abundance of staff, so maybe this could work.
TheWalkingMan
It could work only if the staff at those 7 eleven stores can understand or speak english , and so far that is hardly the case. Imagine a Russia guy who speak really little english oppose to a seven eleven staff with the same english skill .. that wouldnt be that fun !
I totally agree with you.
And who is going to take responsibility when the staff dont have a clue there is a crime being committed? Its going to end up the same as when the Noddy's recruit motor-cy boys to cover for them. Seems to me Noddy wants to relinquish their duties,.
I can just imagine the phone conversation. " Hello Peee, 7 here... we have a fallang in the shop, you better come on down he is ranting on about something, I think he has money so can we get our usual cut?".

This would be an interesting news clip, but its spoilt by bad grammar and not enough information.

I dno he looks like he could easily become a top dog in jail.
all he will need to do is break some heads and cut some inmates up a bit and the job will be his.
tsk... tsk... they'll eat him up alive for lunch along with their som tam...
Do you really think these guys:
Thai prisoners (coincidentally on the BBC)
http://news.bbc.co.u...ery/3135461.stm
are going to be the least bit impressed by this punk?
Oh
I see what your talking about
But have you seen this from Youtube...

Normally I don't have much sympathy for inmates in jails but in this case I pity anyone who has to be locked up with this nasty piece of shit if he is found guilty and is locked up in Thailand,
No, No, once deprived of steroids, cocaine and yah bahh, you'll see little Lee getting his ass kicked in a Thai Jail.
I would imagine that, as a farang surrounded by Thais, he would better to maintain as low a profile as possible or likely wind up dead.

I heard that all that stuff is available in Thai jails!?

When this story was first published a while back I remember a youtube video of this mad dog and some describing him as an animal.

Hitlers Germany did it... they burned millions of books because they dint like the content. Nothing new here, just the government pigs doing their job controlling the people.
-
What a deceitful scum bag, I remember a TV interview when he said most categorically he dint want to get back into politics. It will be a very sad day for Thai people if he gets back in.

Why do they just have to copy all the time, don't
the planners have any imagination at all?

There are lots of these "so called foreign police helpers or volunteers" I would guess 100% of them are on the take just as their Thai brothers are. Actually I would say they are downright dangerous.
If that includes the FPV, you would be guessing wrong.
Everyone can can have an opinion but yours is bordering on being libel.
I would be interested in why you feel threatened by them and why they are "downright dangerous".
Because I had a bad experience with one:
My wife runs a small supermarket in jomtien and about 5 months ago a farang guy parked his huge black suv in a way that virtually blocked the shop entrance (even though there was ample parking in the carpark directly opposite. He was visiting a shop about 4 doors down, after 10 min he had not returned so we asked the assistant to go and find him so he could move his vehicle to allow our customers some access.
He came back in a rage saw me and directed his venomous rantings at me, he said he was a policeman and will have me arested and the shop shut down, he was waring a black volunteer uniform and was acting like an SS officer.
We were all polite to him all the time but he was abusing his assumed authority.
There is no libel here.

If they used a farang volunteer - I quite imagine it's a lad who's into some trouble and will get out of it by assisting the BIB. This is done throughout the world by police - basically a paid informer status.
Except that it's not described as paid informer... it's described as a foreign operative which implies someone working undercover that is attached to a law enforcement agency. It certainly wouldn't be used to describe someone that is was in trouble with the law themselves.
Pattaya, the 9th of October 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 11:00pm on Saturday, Lieutenant Colonel Choosak Kaytong (Crime Suppression Special Unit officer) and his team conducted a sting operation at the Soho Bar (A-Go-Go) on Soi 6, off Pattaya Beach Road.
Another bar bust and another foreigner utilized.
This time he's not described as a foreign operative, but is described as:
officers using a foreign national as an undercover agent
sounding less and less as "a lad in trouble"
There are lots of these "so called foreign police helpers or volunteers" I would guess 100% of them are on the take just as their Thai brothers are. Actually I would say they are downright dangerous.

When the police is the criminals...
90% of Thai police "are" criminals and nothing will change because 100% of the politicians are also criminals.

Listen up! The explosives specialists are talking and coming even up with "urea"....
Urea is a fertilizer and absolutely harmless; it is as explosive and as flammable as your table salt...
Ammoniumnitrate is also a fertilizer but it also has certain explosive properties. However what people always forget is that you can't just detonate Ammoniumnitrate by accident unless you have a fire under many tens or hundreds of tons of compressed AN.
Sorry, but having been a quarry-master and used ANFO when other explosives are unavailable, I can assure you that it explodes very well. Timothy McVey would confirm this if he could.
Urea is also recognised as a component of explosives, esp. when in a prilled form (small granules). To make ANFO is tricky, one must add the small amount of diesel necessary at a controlled rate with very careful stirring. It will heat up, which is controlled by the slowness of adding the other components. It's flash point is low, but then it usually just ignites and burns, it does not explode. As you said, an igniter (blasting cap or similar) will trigger the explosion, and if the mix is confined in several directions, then the force in an unconfined direction is very impressive.
It is not something to play with, unless you are well trained. (I had NitroNobel training many years ago)
Here is the list of explosive chemical mixes:
- ANFO – mixed with Fuel Oil
- ANAL– mixed with ALuminum powder
- ANIC – mixed with ICing sugar
- ANNIE – mixed with Nitrobenzine
- ANS – mixed with sugar
Accessories to bomb making that may be present include:
- Absorbents (saw dusts, shredded paper)
- Alchohol
- Aluminum foil
- Heat resistant containers
- Petroleum Jelly
- Protective gloves
- Scales
- Tubing
- Wires
Some sources of chemicals used in bomb making may include very common household items but in unusual volumes. Vinegar is a source of acetic acid. Acetone and Aluminum powder are easily available and precursors of explosive materials. Look for large quantities of fuel oil, sugar, Nitric acid, Potassium chlorate and nitrate. Vehicle batteries are a good source of sulfuric acid; thermometers are a source of mercury. Hydrogen peroxide is readily available and of course, fertilizer – a source for Ammonium nitrate.
-
This somewhat proves to me that the police are not trained, equiped or capable of any sort of investigation because a "trained eye" would know the visual evidence or initial forensic evidence between an LPG gas tank explosion, chemicals such as Ammonium Nitrate, Nitroglycerin or C4 the difference would be very very obvious.
In other countries the police are sent to attend coursed that would give basic training to allow a rapid identification of substances used after a terrorist attack .
I think the police here in Thailand are totally pathetic.

Ok... so that's good there's one kid that wont end up in Soi Sunee Plaza

Is there a limit to what Thais would do for money? Thais sell their children for money, Thais prostitute themselves for money, Thais take child porn movies to sell for money, etc. etc.
Why are you picking on the Thais, many other countries in the world have far worse reputations, perhaps you don't have any experience of other places or have led a fairly closeted life?
Jet-Ski Smash Turns Phuket Honeymoon Into Tragedy

This post make sense.
The government should insist on the ski operators to be 100% responsible for whatever happens, a) damage,
injury and c) death, the law should insist on operators to be fully insured to cover a, b & c this insurance cover would attract a very high premium.
So the whole industry would become regulated and would compensate riders and operators, those who don't comply would be finned huge amounts or face jail terms. If someone is injured or dies the victim or family would be well compensated (I am talking about proper compensation, not the normal insult the government gives out to Thais such as 50,000 baht for loss of life, no this will have to be "proper" insurance ie. over 1M + us$ for a death) if the operator did not have the required insurance then he simply goes to jail and the boat confiscated.
Who agrees with this approach?
