Doesn't surprise me in the slightest!

The first time I applied for an extension of Visa by means of Marriage to a Thai National, the I.O. wanted a photograph of the roof of the house in addition to the one taken outside with me and my wife showing the address.

I said "there's nothing in the guidelines about that" and the I.O. said "I want a photo of the FULL house - including the roof'' My wife then intervened and said something in Thai to the I.O. who said "Oh, OK then" and moved on to the next "bone of contention"! After we left the office I asked my wife what she had said to the I.O. about the roof pic, and she said "I told her we can't take a picture of the roof of the house because there's a bloody big tree in the way!"

    Ha! TIT 😊😊

Isn't it ridiculous? Aferw years ago I was in my local Immigration Ofice, and the I.O. was asking a tourist for something, and the tourist said "But there's nothing in the Immigration Rulebook or Guidelines that asks for that" and the I.O said " make the rules here!"

Ha. yes! brings back a time when on the LTR visa it said I cant remember how much it was back, but let's say it stated B600,00 in the back OR B50,000 a month income from overseas, the guy had 500,000 in the bank, The I-O asked why he could not show B50,000  monthly income as well, the guy stated it read B600,000 OR B50,000 a month. The I-O crossed out the OR and wrote AND on the document. Ha!

I have never had to show my passport when sending a letter overseas. Maybe they work to the same kind of rulebook as Immigration - different office, different rules.

So if they are worried about underage drinking, what's wrong with shopkeepers asking for someone to show their ID Card when purchasing alcohol if they are unsure of their age?

One thing's for sure - if kids want to get alcohol - there are ways and means for them to do so - I always found a way in my younger days.

Yes, true. Future Park post office always want a passport. Rangsit office 3km away never asked for a passport. Same with immigration,  one immigration officer wants to see med insurance, another immigration officer doesn't require med insurance.

Not to hijack the information in this post, but I would be very interested to know if a person was injured like this and they had entered and paid the future THB 300 entry tax, how much would that fund pay for medical costs ?

If he is working ( as it sounds like) he doesn't come under that scheme. If he is employed by a school, has  a work permit and paying tax the school could claim on their insurance ( can't see that happening for this incident) if they wish or offer to pay a percentage of the medical costs. ( it has been done before)

Does Thailand really think that people with a daily wage of less than 400 THB a day and with 20 holidays a year can buy a house or car?? Or from 1 time 10k handout??? That is 30 THB a day in 365 days....And who can buy?? the rich and superrich and the people who have a government job or are in big business.. although I am wondering how young boys can afford a BMW or even a Mercedes or other big cars...They don't have a normal job as I see them the whole week everywhere on every day... I think I did something wrong in my life

Mybe Mummy and Daddy buy them the BMW and Mercs

I reckon on this subject the dots will line up for those on the UK pension fiddle, tech is moving on at a fast pace, but for those who are not on the fiddle, I just hope one day the Gov. does the right thing regarding frozen pensions, it's not as if pensions are frozen for us in every country in the World, is it..........:whistling:

Talking of fraud, why isn't the thai government looking into hospitals double billing foreigners, even when they have fully paid up health insurance? Plus Thai insurance companies who take the money, but then refuse to pay out because they are unable to  access home countries medical records dating back to your childhood? I am happy to abide by the law if the law abies me.

This is true. But it's also worth understanding that for Thai people, their national ID card number serves as their TIN, they don't have a separate number for tax purposes hence, only none Thai's must apply for TIN's.

Did I say Thai people needed a tax code?????? God I hope you're not a teacher, you can't even comprehend what is written.

I got my TIN many years ago and have been filing tax returns here since at least 2012 I guess.

Then you must be working!  As I was for 9 years had the tax card (so didn't have to pay foreigners prices at national parks ext) Plus, Nob visa renewed every year, with all the correct paperwork and tax forms. Then after 9 years I went to transfer my work permit to another company and found I hadn't paid a Bhat in Tax for 9 years, luckily I still had my tax tin card. But work permit, tax forms were all fake! So be careful.

Were you there when they telephoned the Bangkok office? I WAS! Pathumthani and Thanyaburi ,as Where I live could be classed as either, one side of klong 6 comes under Thanyaburi postal code and the other side comes under Pathumthani postal code. IF you don't believe me, take all your documents to either one and ask them!

    • The Tax Identification Number (TIN) in Thailand is a unique number assigned to individuals and businesses for tax purposes. It serves as a key identifier in the Thai tax system, streamlining the process of tax collection and compliance.

If you say so. It just seems hard to imagine that after one year of constant media coverage, almost everyone in the country knows about this tax change but the Head Office of the TRD doesn't  But hey, I really don't care so don't get excited.

Have you been to get your tax pin yet? As you need it before you can even thing about filing a tax return.. Yes, WE know about it because it is all over Thaivisa, but 90% of Thais are ignorant to the fact just like they are about our requirements for a visa. If you don't care, then don't call people liars when you know nothing about them.

Copies of all Dual Tax Agreements' here.

Been to 2 different Regional tax offices. (just last week), Both had to phone head office in Bangkok. ALL knew nothing about taxing foreigners. All asked what visa I was on, I said LTR, ALL replied " no tax on retirement pensions".  They checked all my paper work I had taken, House agreement, passport, paper work from pensions department UK, UK tax code, Military pension paperwork. Thai bank statements, They had no idea of what to do with it. I asked if i needed a tax code, they laughed and said, no, you not pay Thai tax.
