Minority interest group (no doubt well represented by elites and ultra conservatives) determine government policy.
Don't forget the majority of the senate committee is run by Prayut's men, and he wouldn't like to see his law overruled.

Humiliating for Thailand on the world stage ....!!!
So he used his office to make money. Every US president, apart from Trump, has left office 5 times richer than when they went in. The Bristish PMs have made millions while in office, Sunak has become a millionaire while in office and his wife's businesses Received a 50% increase from the public sector in 2023, Government contracts paid for by the taxpayer. Now funding a war in Ukraine because of the natural resources there. Last but not least, Biden and Hunter Biden using Oval office to make millions. the only one they went for was trump, because with trump in the office, there would be no war in Ukraine.

He was moved to an inactive post some years ago because he and other members of his force were extorting money from gambling joints and Go-Go bars. They believe that is the reason his car was shot up while he was inside an illegal establishment.

I would bet on Ice and alcohol. Regardless, the London police will take good care of him and he will not be back.
Seems to be happening a lot recently, people who are usually well behaved suddenly going crazy as the plane takes or is about to take off. I remember a craze long ago where it was thought funny to spike a person's drink or food and sit back and watch the action.

But I wonder what would happen if he goes to jail and then obviously he can't support the family anymore.
Will any government institution take care of the mother and child?
How will they pay for their food if he doesn't work anymore?
This is just a question; I don't say the charges should be dropped. But I think we should be fair to the mother and look at reality. What are her options?
What options does the victim have? If he stays in the home, where does the young girl stay?

I can't even fathom why anyone would come here and even take a chance riding a motorcycle, knowing full-well that this is a seriously dangerous place to drive anything, let alone a motorbike without a helmet.
Agree. I would imagine that a lot of tourists who hire/rent scooters/motorbikes have never ridden one in their own country.

Take the money.
It is very common in Thailand (and other SE Asian countries) for compensation to be offered to victims. In large sums of money for cases to be solved. I believe the local RTP take 10% or more for negotiating fee.

Nonsense. Which foreigners have been sent to prison for accidents such as this one? None, perhaps?
I know 2 One was imprisoned and had to pay 1 million IN CASH bail. The other one was taken to jail while his family had to collect over hundred thousand Baht compensation... Just because YOU don't know of it happening, it doesn't mean it doesn't happen!

Shouldn't the driver who was breaking the law have to pay? What about his insurance? Did he have any? If not he should be held accountable for the medical expenses. If it was the other way round the foreigner would have to foot the bill and still go to the monkey house.

So who pays all the hospital bills will it be the Tourists? Why should insurance companies have to pay unless it is the bus companies?
Should be the bus company, but no doubt the tourist may have to pay and then claim off the bus company after filling out 20 pages in triplicate and copying every page of your passport and showing medical reports and 50 photos of the injuries. Cant see any Insuranc company paying out has the coach crashed into the BACK of the truck at high speed. Driver error. Company problem. They would want his bus driver's license and passenger insurance,

Now the Thai's want to sue the offender for posting the criticism.
hmm..... so removing / deleting the comments was not good enough for the Thai's.
This is the part of the Lese Majeste Law that the MFP wanted to abolish. It was only meant to protect the Royal family. The Junta extended to it that any criticism of the government could be classed as offensive and prosecute the individua. But now even a Thai restaurant, or a food stall can use it if they receive a bad review from a customer on social media.

Been many cases of British English teachers here fiddling with the school kids since I have lived here. I bet it wont be the last. And how many are swept under the rug?
I am not sure why Aseannow have pixelated his filthy face. He should be shown to warn others. Who are we trying to protect here? We should be protecting the children.
The link has the unpixelated version.
Not protecting him, but there have been cases of sexual and physical abuse committed by teachers of all nationalities, including Thai, American, Australian, and many others. Not just in Thailand, but Burma, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Malaysia. Not to mention the UK, America and other European countries. Again, not defending him, just pointing out facts not prejudices.

Teachers freak me out. Who willingly wants to spend all their time around Little kids?
I taught for over 30 years. in Europe, Africa, and Thailand. Mostly younger children 8–12-year-old. Apart from the English language, I taught Math's and Science. It is very rewarding if done correctly. Seeing the joy on a child's face because they have achieved a 75% score on an exam which last term, they only achieved 20%. Plus, their joy at learning new languages together with exciting, and fun activities.

No, he wasn't Starmer was the head CPS while Saville was being investigated. The Sun Newspaper was going to expose him in 2008 ,Starmer said there wasn't enough evidence to bring a prosecution. Plus the Sun Newspaper would face a libel case that would have cost them millions.

Several posts recently have suggested that unpaid hospital bills, left by foreigners, are a major financial problem in Thailand, at least one hinted at how easy it was to simply walk out without paying. I know this can be a big problem when it comes to workers from nearby countries, particularly in Phuket involving workers in construction and fisheries, but I think instances of non-payment amongst Westerners is quite rare, despite what the sensationalist media might suggest to the contrary!
I had five days in hospital in November and had to leave a deposit and a credit card number before hand, my experience in Bangkok, fifteen years earlier was exactly the same. In both cases the deposit matched the estimate and the final bill, or near enough. Plus every hospital I visit has my passport details on file which means that Immigration at the airport is very likely to be aware of the unpaid bill and refuse permission to leave. Years ago, an acquaintance became involved in a legal matter and tried to travel to Singapore but his Thai Immigration record had been flagged and he was turned back.
Unpaid medical bills by citizens of other Asian countries will be quite high I imagine, by Westerners they will be tiny, the habit of taking out health or travel assurance alone make this more probable.
If you can't snow medical insurance when you attend hospital, they usually ask if you have the funds to pay (out patient) If an inpatient, they will usually ask for a deposit and/or keep your passport. been in hospital twice since moving here, both times showed medical insurance, never had a problem. morale. get medical insurance, you know you have to pay.

1 - what has a boarding card got to do with possible overstays?
2 - everyone already, Thai and others, have to show ID that matches their boarding pass
3 - how does showing a passport show overstay, unless airline staff are now being trained to check through every page to check the passenger's status?
4-will flights now be delayed while airline staff trawl through every page of a passport as in 3 above?
5 - is this a poorly written article and in fact checks will be made when you check in, not at the boarding gate?
Same as the smart cars scan the passport and it shows up what visa if any you have.

What is actually different here? You present a passport and if you don't have it you need to present a Thai ID as above.
I can't imagine airlines accepting your Swahili ID card or did they used to accept foreign ID's instead of passport/Thai ID?
Any ID with a photo and name matching the boarding pass. I wonder if they will start checking passports at bus stations?????? You can overstay and travel to Chiang Mai from Bangkok rather than by air.

You can give bad reviews. If I remember correctly the guy just didn't write one review, he kept writing very insulting reviews for a period of over 2 or 3 weeks. In the report they make it sound like he only made one complaint.
