  1. I am looking at buying a house in L&H park in Chalong and as such am seeking any info from either present residents or those that used to live there.

Any info/comments, positive or negative, about the estate itself, facilities, water supply, flooding, noiseetc etc much appreciated before I make a decision.

  2. Not a troll.....

And no, the sum was not hundreds of thousands of baht, or ten of thousands of baht or even thousands....It was just enough to sort of get me through the day (think 500 baht) and then a meal to make sure I was eating, and some beers because they know I like beer ^^.

So, no, in terms of numbers, it wouldn't impress anyone, but it is nice when people go out of their way to help you when you are in a tight spot, even when they don't have to. Just as opposed to the "my Thai family screws me out of everything" Yes, I read those posts, too, and I know they can happen, but I thought it would be nice to hear other people's stories of being lent a hand.

Wow so your "Thai" family helped you out in a time of need and this is worthy of a post. <deleted> isn't this what families are all about yet you seem surprised - maybe a bit of doubt about your status here.

  3. Or you can catch the big bus for 120 baht. The big bus is the savior of phuket public transport woes. The owner of the company expects to make a 70% profit pff every customer (source cannot be mentioned here).

So I am really really interested in some expat bus experience threads here in the future.

Hey Ivan why don't you spend a day or 2 riding the bus to and fro and report back yourself.

  4. There is one thing that annoys the sh**t out of me and that is the advert for a prinitng mob who have a Thai girl saying LUMINATING.

Don't know why but it really grates on me so badly I have to either turn off the radio or change station.bah.gif

  5. I spend 79,800 per month and I am retired with a ThaI wife of 1O years no children but 4 cats and 2 dogs. I live in Chonburi.

In that amount is rent 16,000 health cover of 12,000 per month Cat internet 7000 I like a contrant internet feed and tot is crap and other suppliers not near me

I pay from one male worker he has been with me 2 years he does every thing cooks cleans odd jobs gardening cleans the Merc he works around give and take 6 days a week for 9000 per month.

The rest is made up of power 4000 cable tv 2000 and the balance is medication and food and car insurance Also I do not smoke and drink little.

So let us make it a round 80,000 per month my income stream from overseas is 120,000 if I got stuck I could with draw some of the cash which is invested there so I am 40,000 still on the right side of the ledger per month.

So yes I enjoy the good life for my age and see no reason to change it

You spend 12,000 baht a month on health cover - WOW.

that's what i spend... and without any "wow".

    Well I'm floored. w00t.gif

I don't doubt you but have to ask the question - Why so much?

  7. The last guy to come down and really rag on me said he was the manager, but before that someone told me the manager was away.

Was this a foreigner or Thai? The manager is a very reasonable and professional foreign man named Ben. The restaurant manager is a short angry Thai muslim man named Nut.

Not very professional if he lets his satff act like this is he!!!

    That's a lot of fish! biggrin.png

You should have taken the photos before you ate all the chips

  9. Though I have done a lot of car mileage in Phuket, I was never stopped there. But lots of times on the highway going to Central Thailand and on to the Isaan. They will say that you were speeding though you were not, or they will say that you have to keep left, but you were overtaking. Guess I could try to play the smart guy and start arguing with them, but I just prefer to give them 100 Baht. Easy does it.To my experience, this is also what Thai people invariably do.

At least this thread made me decide always to keep a copy of my passport and visa in the car.

Oh well, I guess this thread is about to approach its natural end.

years ago i moved up to Isaan for a year or two and was always having my SUV stopped for, exactly as you say above..tho often speeding for sure but only one time had to pay [100baht]

Usually wife would talk to them and off we'd go again, but the annoyance of having to stop all the time got her to ask a nice BIB the question.."Why?''

My SUV was Phuket registered and BIB told her.."we see Phuket plate with farang driving and understand he has ''big money'' easy for tip."..smile.png

Changed the rego to Khon Kaen plates and never again got stopped in the area

Once was severely berated by a prize a---hole BIB when pulled over one time for "not wearing a shirt!!!."

In my own car on a trip to Laos..not in a shopping centre, or even a gas station...just pulled me over at a drive through slowly type checkpoint...

Unbelievably angry guy and he didn't want to hear anything from the wife..i put it on just to please him and off we went ...bizzare!!w00t.gif

I don't think it is bizarre at all, I wish the police would stamp out all people going about with no top on, just because you are in your car doesn't make it okay, he didn't want to see you topless, fair play to him!!

You really need to make use of one or other of these thingo's ......biggrin.png tongue.png laugh.png clap2.gif giggle.gif cheesy.gif

when posting humour ,so we know you are in fact being humourous..

Obviously some people require canned laughter in comedy shows to be able to "get" the joke.blink.png

  10. I am yet again delighted that I don't live in Phuket and a very long time ago made the decision never to go there again.

Cheers for making my day, thanks.

    [from sunny Chonburi] w00t.gif

Also feel life is better since i left Puke-itsick.gif

    (From cool Chiang Mai)

But you're missing it so much you still feel the need to post on here and slander it here.

Hey Steven I couldn't agree more. Heaps of people claim to have left Phuket for sunnier climes yet still find they have to return to the Phuket forum and slag it and us that still live here off. Screw 'em I reckon.thumbsup.gif

  11. About what do you want we suggest ?

?????? Exactly my thought - he is moving the wrong direction - who intheir right mind woukld want to live in that filthy cesspool..??

OMG not another cesspool comment. w00t.gif Thailand the hub of cesspools!

  12. I came back from a few days in Bangkok yesterday. I took a meter taxi from Pin Klao Bridge to Suvarnabhumi airport which took 42 min and cost me 320 Thb included the toll fees.

Had planned to take the airport bus into town when arrived in Phuket but flight landed before schedule and I hate to sit and wait for a bus I know always are late so I took a "meter" taxi from Phuket Airport to Samkong which now is "metered" to Thb 500,-

Up 100 Thb from December last year.

I know of course that a "meter" taxi here is not "meter taxi" but just to hear the drivers response I asked if he not drove on meter as the car is equipped with a meter and got a interesting discussion with the driver all the way from the airport and back home. He defended the prices in Phuket with no return fare and now in low season he was lucky to get one customer per day. He had previously drove taxi in Bangkok for and there it was always customers he said but had to drive much more and traffic jam. When I asked if he thought he could get a return fare if the prices was similar to Bangkok the response was Phuket is different, when I responded with oh you mean can work less for same amount or most likely more income annually he clearly got angry and the rest of the journey went in Formula one speed.

Are you sure it wasn't IrishIvan driving the meter taxi - moonlighting from his normal tuk tuk job.cheesy.gif

  13. Ha Ha I got pulled over just outside Chumpon the other day by the Highway Police. Guy sauntered over to the car and in pretty good thai/english asked me for "One chicken Lek".

Took a while for both the missus and myself to figure out he was actually after 100 baht. Why it is called a Chicken Lek/Small Chicken is beyond me. Learn something new every day. Anyway 100 baht later all was smiles and I was off on my way again.

  14. If you have never lived in Africa then you have no idea what corruption really is.

This is a completely spurious argument. The poster thinks that by stating his personal experience of another continent he is somehow contributing to the discussion..... I'd like to hear how.

    What arguement?

  15. Sometimes farang do get justice

I know of a case where a farang in Bangkok bought a pick-up truck and put it in his girlfriend's name. She then left him and took the pick-up with her to her home in the north. The farang went after her, found her, and was awarded the pick-up.

Sent from my i-mobile IQ 6 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Agreed. I know a guy whos GF sold the truck which was in her name but he took her to court and won the monies back as he had actually paid for the truck.

Weird things do happen here all the time and I would not have believed it had I not been close enough to know.
