  1. While your at the herb shop buy some gynostemma pentaphyllum. It makes a tasty tea, and its supposed health benefits are being investigated in several studies. Also known as immortality tea, or five leaf gingsing, or poor mans gingsing.

    Its grown locally in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. We have momma ship us kilos for us and our friends as it gets quite pricey here.

  2. He played well in his return to the Galaxy, too bad he accepted the contract in the first place.

    AC Milan played and lost to AME Mexico downtown the other night and could have used him.

    I watched the game on TV, although I had a comp ticket to the game, but was too lazy to drive the 20 miles. The Braves were playing Giants at the same time, so traffic downtown was a bit bunchy and didn't wanna get involved. Hispanic soccer crowds are a bit rowdy and tend too drink too much, and who wants to hang around 60,000 drunks. :)

    The Chelsey team just beat AC Milan 2-1

  4. I can't really see Thailand being in

    Blake's 7's omniscient computer nailed it.

    And yet the galactic gov't prevailed, and the seven died. A sad day for Blake, and a sad day for us all as we will allow our "leaders" to lead us down the primrose path to inconsequece and a dreary sameness of life to our children. All hail Obama the first candidate running for world leader. :)

  5. We've decided to have uncle build us a small home within an hour drive outside of Chiang Mai. The only neighbors within a kilometer live about two hundred meters away.

    A plateau in the mountains, it is blessed with fresh breezes and a great view of varied farm land for three directions with a few small ridges in the background. To the other direction across from our entrance road is a small hill that rises up from the ground at a 75% angle. At its base is a small pond thats waters are crystal clear.

    The older couple whom live the closest and sold MIL the land are old friends of MIL and are quiet friendly folk.

    The most pleasant place I've ever lived was a farm in one of the most violent countries in the world. I can live a quiet pastorial life, but as a realist I probably will need increasing access to medical care as thats the nature of growing old. This puts me within an hour of Ram. It also allows visits to Carrefour and other shopping without much hassle. Don't need a bar scene to be happy

  6. Don't look upon yourself as a quitter, your not. Your just going to cut your loss and move on. The problem isn't within you, but within him.

    I think you'll miss his child more than his worthless butt. Is this child from another Thai lady and how did that end between them? I think he has a big problem of not truly committing to anyone but his self. Seeking a travel partner is just looking for a piece of strange, as he feels somewhat comfortable with you but seeks a single life to do what he wants.

    You've a steady job, a family that offers support and are young and healthy, you've many things that many people just don't have.

    You'll meet someone that will treasure you as much as I treasure my Thai wife. It could be tomorrow or ten years. Don't rush it, "don't think too much".

  7. I bought my jade ring in a massive factory/showroom somewhere in ChangMai. And a lot of people have remarked on seeing it and hearing where i bought it' It must be good if it comes from Chang Mai'

    Isn't that the place towards BoSang where they have a free bar inside? I've purchased a few things there, really nice showroom.

  8. Costa Rica is the safest place to live in Central America, but not for $500/month. Belize is not safe. Etc.

    You'll have to define safe. I did a quick search of murders by country (nationmaster.com) This isn't gun violence per se just the total % per 1000 people that get murdered.

    #1 Colombia .617847 per 1000 people

    #2 South Africa #3 Jamaica #4 Venezuela

    #5 Russia .201534

    #14 Thailand .0838593

    #19 Costa Rica .061006

    #24 USA .042802

    #30 Finland .028336

    The site listed 62 rankings and Belize wasn't one of them. If I kept looking around I'd find a rank.

    I've lived in Colombia and have seen the results of violence. My sister in law ( officer in Colombian Navy)was in the capitol building when it was attacked in Bogota. I've seen bodies on the streets, in cars. Life is cheap in Colombia.

    Some other ranks

    #33 Portugal #34 Malaysia #40 France #42 Iceland #43 Australia .015032 #44 Canada .014906

    #46 UK #47 Italy

    I like Belize, never found a reason to even feel uncomfortable in any situation.

  9. Dam those southern rednecks :)

    Most states have a requirment that after 30 days of residence in that state you must obtain that states license to drive autos legally within that state ie you could've been in some egg suckin yankee state and gotten the same response.

    Additionally the word dam-n is normally put in front of yankee rather than southern rednecks. :D

  10. Ignore them and tell your boss if they call to speak thai only to them, they will soon get fed up with wasting money on long distance calls if they are ignored,,and bear in mind its not RBS chasing you but some lowfife that bought the debt off them for a pittance,.that they have asked for a short settlement is not uncommon, they have probably paid 2p in the pound for the debt,and will take anything over that, but as this is not your debt, tell em to do one ! :)

    These are the lowest form of a collection agency. Generally they buy a debt for a few pennies on the dollar (pound) They then try to find the debtor, so they mail letters to anyone with that name or close to it.

    In the US do not ignore their letters. You should respond forthwith with a letter of denial of this debt, or proof sent to you, that it is your debt. There is a short time limit to respond or the debt despite the fact it wasn't yours, becomes yours and can become actionable against you in a court of law.

    Send a registered letter or fedex with response stating the debt is not yours, and tell them not to contact you or you employer or family again unless they can provide proof absolute the debt is yours. Keep the proof the letter was sent and recieved along with a copy of the letter you sent.

    Try clarkhoward.com for advice on how to handle this but it'll be as stated above

    I'm not sure how the banking laws are in the UK, but considering how the banks do operate under similiar ways to the US, I'm sure the laws are similiar, and I'm sure the gov't has taken the banks cash (political contributions) to have the same sleazy setup.

    Don't do nothing, don't ignore, be proactive and rapidly reply. If they can't provide proof they'll go away, and if they don't and proof isn't provided you'll be able to take action against them. Keep your letter sent to them and proof they recieved it for years.

  11. Oh bananas, I'd forgotten about using those in pancakes. The little Thai bananas are really sweet.

    Gatorhead, you are going to pack on the pounds if you use that recipe to make pancakes.

    =============================================================

    Now some of us don't worry so much about a few carbs. Besides according to a new Japanese study it seems that even obese people live 5 years longer than skinny folks, and those carrying a few pounds extra live 6 years longer. Don't go bonkers, look it up on the internet before calling me crazy.

    Now my recipie adds a bit to the midriff, but my wife loves them (

    Standard mix

    add a handful of blueberries as soon as you pour batter onto grill

    add very thin sliced pineapple as soon as you flip to other side

    after plating pour some maple syrup on top then add thin sliced almonds as well as thin sliced bananas

    cover with whipped cream, more sliced almonds and pig out.

    ok for you diabetics, I read this on thai visa a few years back. Bitter melon tea drank after each meal will help control blood sugar. My sister has drank this for a few years following my advice and her blood sugar is fine now. She still drinks it religiously

    Also drink immortality tea (gynostemma pentaphyllum) to regulate your body balance

    If you try these please look up on net and see what if any problems can occur. Maybe the bitter melon tea will lower too much if you on meds.

  12. Vonage basic is over 20 dollars a month LIMITED minutes, about 30 for unlimited (they add taxes and hidden fees).

    Magic Jack is 20 dollars PER YEAR UNLIMITED minutes.

    No comparison on price.

    Also, no need to use skype, Magic Jack also offers metered international calls from your US number. I haven't checked the price comparison though.

    When you boot up Majic Jack they offer 5 years service for $60 thats $12 per year after your initial purchase. Not too shabby. Works great, no problems after a years usage.

  13. I lose my wife shopping all the time. She justs seems to wander away or maybe its me wandering.

    Although 5'4" ins't all that short, she gets behind these racks of clothing in some shops and I can't see her. :)

  14. The US squad stops Spains record run of 15 victories and makes its first FIFA final in the Confederation Cup.

    The score was 2-0 against a sluggish Spainish defense.

    OK so its an abberation, and Spain, probably with justification, just took the game for granted. But a wins a win.

    :):D

  15. dam_n, is it really that hard to live in the USA legally.

    Yes it is. But if you can get in illegally through Mexico, life is good. :D

    Got about 15 million or more illegals in the US that his nibs B.H. Obama will work on getting them legal status and citizenship ASAP after he gets more pressing agenda passed.

    But to those who jump through the hoops to do it the right way, bend over. :)

  16. , which indicate that massive inflation is inevitable given the monetary policy of the last 12-18 months.

    =========================================================

    Lets see Mr. Hope and change has quadrupalled the national debt in 6 months, has plans to nationalize the health care system. he took a bad economy and turned it into a pile of excretment.

    He did gain control over two auto manufacters, gave a portion of them to his union buddies and stiffed the people who had money invested.

    ==============================================================

    What the US needs to do now is take their medicine, accept the financial misdeeds of Bush, the Fed, the Congress and Obama, reduce the money supply back to normal levels, minimize the effects of inflation by keeping taxes and spending down, and work with economic partners around the world to stabilize the world economy. Unfortunately, I doubt that any of this is going to happen anytime soon, so the inevitable pain and harsh reality is yet to come.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Don't worry plans are in the works to raise taxes, add new taxes such as VAT, let the Bush era tax reductions expire and print more money, and further grow the national debt by a spending mad democrat congress, that has a incompetents named pelosi and reid lording over it. Why should we worry?

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    . The impact of higher prices for fuel and rice over the last couple of years has been felt in our local community.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    MIL leases our rice paddies and higher rice prices has led to a better income for her. Ok sometimes theres a silver lining. :)

  17. Hmmm takes 12hrs on a plane to get to thailand.... sorry a 12hr coach ride is a non-starter!!!

    !2 hour flight, I wish. Fastest from Atlanta is 24 !/2 hours several airlines,

    If you decide to fly by a certain airline rather than speed of journey, it'll take longer, a lot longer. Using Eva for your main carrier will take you 30 hours. My favorite airline isn't an option, Singapore air will take 36 hours. Now that time isn't time all in the air but with the various stops, it makes a 12 hour bus ride seem like a picnic.

  18. If it doesn't get replaced can you explain how it was built up in the first place?

    This isn't seasonal ice. It is ancient glacial ice. Like millions of years. Got it now?

    I am sorry, I should have said it isn't replaced for millions of years, as if anyone really cares about that far into the future.

    Global warming deniers, why? So you don't feel guilty about consuming? You don't like to be an adult and face harsh realities? You let your personal distaste for Al Gore and liberals take over your own ability to be objective about science? I really don't understand.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Why would I feel guilty about consumimg. We utilize what we need, recycle what we can of our waste, and utilize our energy consumption the most frugally possible. We use passive solar in home and have solar assisted water heater.

    That being said I don't believe in the tooth fairy or santa claus. Neither do I believe in global warming as man caused. Weather has been occurring a long time, long before man and long after man it'll still occur.

    Seems to me a few years back in the Alps they encountered a man who died and because the glacier ice melted that covered him. He was killed by another human, and ice covered him and subsequently melted recently. Millions of years nah. Glaciers do last that long, but glaciers have been melting for a long time, there is some ebb and flow, hence our swiss body, measurement of it is only recent, as is measurement of temperature.

    To continue to call it global warming is passe, its proponents now call it climate change. It was becoming a tough sell using the global warming label, since temps seem to be going down the past few years. When they do need to show a recent warming trend they pick out a small area that has had a warming trend. Selective statistics, truthful but not globally. Chattanoogas a favorite of theirs to use, but an odd thing is I live 90 south of there and our summers have been a bit cooler, both just localized pecularitys. Climate change is way better so whatever way the temps go, they can bemoan its man caused.

    You wanna talk about the pollution man creates and poisons the enviorment I'm there to a point, but when the point reaches absurbity you'll find I fell off the wagon a ways back. We do need to take better care of our enviorment its up to us individually to change ourselves and those around us, not grubby greedy gov'ts., the more power you invest in those, the more we lose.

  19. We live presently in Atlanta, and we can find at one of the many asian farmers markets ( mostly korean owed)just what food stuffs we want. There are also the mom and pop small stores run by Thai or Viets or Chinese or Laotians that teem in the north of the city. On the days our Wat is open, a farmers market of sorts takes place on its grounds. Prices just aren't that high. Someone mentioned a bag of 80 k. lime leaves for $15 We would pay $1.99 if we didn't grow our own ( gotta drag the dang things into the house for the winter) We grow alot of our own veges or grab what we want from our viet friends large garden.

    I'd check with asian food wholesalers as to what their criteria is to purchase your goods, and what goods they find difficult to obtain. If you can obtain what their present purchase prices are for items you might wanna grow, it'd give you an idea of what your break even profit point would be.
