My apartment has a cheap box bedframe similar to this:
It raises the bottom of my mattress to about 12" from the floor. I'd like to add another foot or so; it feels too low at the moment.
What is the best way to add height? I am considering a new, taller bed stand, or a mattress base. The bed is a queen size.

I installed an AC recently. The thais cleaned a little when they saw me cleaning. Otherwise i got the impression they didn't feel it was their job.
There were pipes on the exterior i had to prompt them to remove. One of the pipes was just dangling there, easy for anyone to see as broken or unneeded.
Instead of measuring pipes they guesstimate and cut off pieces based on the initial guess, shortening further as they test the length out. Often their final selection is still a tad long but "close enough' in their eyes. I was standing 3 feet away as they did this so there was no shame in it, I guess pre-measuring with tape isn't a thing here.
My fan started slowing down. when I pointed this out they decided to re-route power to another outlet. They tried drilling it but cracked the plastic covering. They also told me the outlet could not be used for other stuff anymore.
I am at least happy I was there to oversee everything. If I didn't watch them the AC room would have less electric when the AC runs. This ordeal has reinforced my belief never to buy property here.

In Pattaya a cable installer ran a cord down a wall from outside. Instead of tucking it into the corner he just punched the cord holders in this wavy pattern in the fastest way he could. There is now a wavy cord running 4-5 inches from the corner of my wall. In bangkok another installer did it properly at my old apartment at least.
I had a flourescent light housing in need of replacement. It was also done crookedly and none of the waste material was cleaned up from the floor.
The board under my bed broke. A Thai handyman came to cut a new board to hold the mattress. It was not cut straight so a piece jutted out from the side. He didn't care and left.
A Thai man came to apply some white tile cleaner to whiten the cement between the bath tiles. Instead of cleaning the white residue everywhere he just left.
I'm sure you guys have similar stories. I wanted to ask if this issue of low quality work is specific to Thai culture or if most countries at their level of economic status behave the same?

What annoys me is that my packages often arrive at the Chiang Mai Flash Express depot the next day, in the morning, and then sit there for 24 hours until they can be bothered to deliver them. Kerry's prices have gone up a fair bit this year though so I can see why many vendors are looking at alternatives.
This was exactly my experience with Flash Express. it came after 1 day to Pattaya but took 2 extra days to deliver!
Flash Express needs to rebrand as Pause Express

Yes that was my experience too. Kerry to Bkk takes one day, flash express took 3 days

I used the Thai Post for shipping 16kg from Pattaya to BKK. 730 thb for shipping, another 240 for boxes and packing.
Someone shipped it back with the same packing material via Flash Express. 210 thb. It hasn't arrived yet but presumably will tomorrow.
Is Flash express known to be the cheapest? I think I will use them next time.

The islands present an interesting and possibly rare opportunity to trail ride in a setting few can emulate.
I've seen dirt bike rentals on Koh Lipe so I bet it's a decent island too. Phuket is big enough that I bet it has a few trails. Koh Chang is closest to me and may have some interesting options as well.

I just tried the plant based burger. Bit of a pork taste. Patty was good but the soggy bottom bun caused by microwaving reminded me to toast it at home next time. I think it'll be a winner though. The PB Whopper at BK is delicious but 160 baht, this one was 35 baht or thereabout. could buy 4 for the price of the whopper so well worth home heating.
I also spotted plant based bolonga, plus a spicy variant. I bought them too and will try them in a sandwich perhaps with animal based cheese.

What is this plant based pork in 711? I must be missing something. How much are they selling for the rice and plant based pork?
45 baht I believe. Again, not at every location, but at many/most in Pattaya

Pork is not plant based is it? I have only ever seen 2, Chinese stew and Kow pat kai in the freezer
These is a plant based pork one in the freezer. Some 7/11s are missing random items including this one though

The spaghetti is good. Likewise for the frozen pork rice. My favorite is the plant based holy basil rice, it's delicious for a 7/11 meal. Good for the environment and less animal suffering is the cherry on top. Between this and the impossible whopper at BK I can see meat slowly phasing out with no ill effects. What say you?

@ifmu At a Thai mail business (not post office) I was charged 973 thb. 730 was Thai EMS with tracking. Rest was packaging.
When I told the mototaxi to go to Kerry express, he went to some place that only ships. They then directed him to a mail shop and I got stuck using them. Online, the Kerry quote was 430 thb so my guess is 600-700 total if I would have found them.

I have a feeling your vision of dirtbiking and mine are not quite the same...
Beautiful video, if a trip to Chang Mai has even 10% trails I'll consider it a win.
A less pretty version of this is what I expected. I don't think trail riding is a mild motocross event

Nice trips! How do you tell if the path is road vs trail?
Also, how did you get your dirt bike/dual sport onto Samui? Did it cost a fair amount?

Is there a map that shows all Thailand's trails? I expect if taking a serious trip, most of it will be on road, but it would be nice to incorporate some trails too.
-
A 500 can work but I was thinking of two 150s so we could both ride and have the experience of riding

Anyone ridden with their gf or wife? Do they enjoy touring the country on these bikes? On road and off? Or is it too much of a bother for them?
I'm considering taking girls who I'm not serious with as a sort of fun day or week trip, otherwise I'd just ask my SO's opinion

I will have to wait to report, until new wheels come in from China. shipping takes a full month, one of the things I dislike about buying stuff like this online
-
150BF looks like a great deal, thanks. Being a dual sport I could ride it to the trail so no need for a car. Maybe buy two to take a date as well!
Do you guys think such a bike would be a feasible transportation for a back country exploration from Pattaya into Issan, to the North and then South? I'd take trails wherever possible and avoid highways.

Thanks guys. How much do you feel the heat? You have a lot of gear to wear but on the other hand maybe the speed cools things a bit?
-
Anyone know a dealer of dual sport bikes especially used?
-
I'm getting interested in maybe taking this up as a hobby. First start will be a tour on a rented bike in Pattaya. After that I was thinking of either getting a dual sport to ride around locally with, or just flying to different parts of thailand and renting bikes. What do you guys suggest?

Kerry is quoting 420 thb online. I'm stunned by that rate!

I have a standup scooter I'd like to ship to a repair shop in Bangkok from Pattaya to save a trip (they need to hold it for a few days). The scooter is 2.5 to 3 feet long and weighs about 30 lbs. If it costs under 1,300 thb I may ship it but I suspect Kerry will charge much more. DOes anyone have experience with Kerry's bulk rates?
Where to get a box spring (under mattress)?
in Pattaya

My queen bed is too low; I'm looking to get a box spring to raise its height some more. Delivery to south Soi Buakao is also needed. Do you guys have any suggestions on where to look? Used or new is fine.
