  1. We have used John Cameron many times over the past twenty years, when we have needed alternative transport. Good rates and hassle free. NEVER known anyone to have a problem. Will deliver to your door and pick up.

You get what you pay for. If you just want a runabout you could have it by this afternoon.

    Tel John on 081 9343489

  2. OK I will give it a go to suggest a few ideas. Please don't be critical, just add your better ideas to the list:

Sia Kaew beach in the Navy base 100 Baht p/p best beach within 200km

The Chinese Imperial Palace around the lake at Wat Yasangwararan. The artifacts are truly amassing. The only permanent exhibition of Terracotta soldiers outside china.

There are displays in there of artifacts 2000 years old in glass cases (and it is real). The bronze statues of the monks displaying martial arts is mind blowing.

the statues of all the Chinese emperors, healers, philosophers etc.. is fantastic.

A boat ride out to Kho Larn on the ferry can be fun for only 30B each way.

The Zoo up highway seven Khao Khewo open zoo. really is great . Nothing like the Tiger Farm.

The animals roam freely (except the tigers) I will go there any opportunity I can get. BRILLIANT

Lots of monkeys and animals to thrill kids and adults alike .Giraffe's, hippos, lions, ostriches.

    cant get there enough.!

Also, if you have got kids, they also have "The flight of the gibbon" zip wire

Fly through the trees with ease. DO IT a few dollars or miss it forever.

  3. There are a lot of contaminates in the water supply here, calcium is not one of them. I actually have to add it too my pool to stop the grout dissolving. (Not a lot of people know that).

There are a few threads you can surch on this forum, and the most anyone has come up with is 13 ppm TDS. (F#@K all in terms of hardness). the basic local geology is igneous, (Laterite, decayed granite) therefore, unlikely to contain significant levels of calcium.

Maybe someone is pissing in your tank. bah.gif

Grout dissolves because of acidic water ( low PH) and you don't solve that with adding calcium but adding Sodium Carbonate ( soda ash) or Bi-carbonate (baking soda).

Alkalinity is something different from water hardness.

There is a lot ( depending on the location ) of calcium in the water here if your source is a private well, since shower cubicles are almost impossible to clean if you don't keep up.

If you have city water the calcium should be removed already.

Close but no cigar. Calcium Carbonate is what you use to raise the Total Hardness to 250-350 ppm (350-450ppm in salt water pools)

You are Correct. Alkalinity and PH are totally independent.

What most people have never heard of , and do not realize, is that there is more to pool maintenance that just chlorine and PH.

That is why their grout dissolves and the end up paying a fortune for their pool to be repaired.

We have a whole house water filtration system. Never get any deposits in the kettle. Had European visitors, would only drink bottled water. You would not believe the amount of calcium in the kettle.

  5. Went to get a re-entry visa. given the form, which I immediately declared as BS much to the annoyance of the tame Falang "assistant" but I had to go home again to get yet another photo.

Informed then, as I am on a retirement extension, they have my bank details Etc. and most BS on the form.

Also I have already submitted 26 copies of the same passport over the last three years as per their requirements, for just about anything. F#*k me, they wanted another copy.

  6. It is only around Baht 2,000/2,500 return Air Asia from U-Tapao and the flight only takes one hour ten minutes.

Why bother with a ten hour bus ride?

there are many reasons why someone chooses the bus instead of flying.

for example have you ever considered people who want to bring back something that is prohibited on the aircraft? Such as liquids of any sort over a certain size.

No. The OP did not indicate that the purpose of his trip was to transport items prohibited on aircraft.

Large quantities of hazardous liquids are probably banned on buses too! burp.gif

who said anything about hazardous? And who said anything about large quantities?

I don't consider 1 L of any liquid to be a large quantity and that is the maximum your allowed to carry on and aircraft these days

You are so right. Let her get the bus for ten hours, eleven hours, whatever, and don't offer any helpful alternative advice.

One up to you Asiantravel, I am so humbled by your insight.

Some people will argue with a tree.wai2.gif

  8. I had to draw a line in the sand when they ask what my mother's maiden name was and my father's name?????

The good news was that I got there early in the day, so had time to check the form out and have a good laugh....?

The form does not ask for you mothers maiden name.

If you are a foreigner here on a retirement visa and both of your parents are dead and burried in another country, why would the Thai authorities want to know their names?

  9. Sorry I should clarify. To "employ" a Thai you are required to set up a Ltd. Company 49% share with minimum 4 employees. Oh! And get a work permit.

Sent from my KFASWI using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

  10. I was looking for someone to use their own discretion as what was required on a weekly basis to maintain the home. Not dictate union style.

The question was not how long the string is, but how much you should pay for a ball of it !!!

  11. All of the information above is why there will always be 3rd world nations....

Also, none of these maids that are getting paid 12,000 to 17,000 baht a month plus a company vehicle are paying one baht in tax.

When there are people with more money than they need, living in property that is far too big for them to take care of and can afford a lifestyle that requires hired help, you create the society that exists here. This wealthy society then demands that it stay that way so the down trodden get squashed underfoot by a government that is "put in place".

Then foreigners complain about the standard of how things are here, no one pays taxes, then there is no money for proper infrastructure and no pensions for the elderly. etc...

Bet the OP did not think this thread would end up like this....?

Too right I didn't. That is why I am keeping my head down facepalm.gif

For info. We used to pay GBP 10.00 per hour for 16 hours per week in the UK, with a smaller house. She was self employed so Tax and social security payments were her responsibility. We both had good jobs so it was a no brainer.

Our thoughts when starting this thread were to offer a Thai the opportunity of employment on a casual self employed basis, at an equitable rate, not to exploit anyone. People in Thailand have to work for a living after all. (Not my responsible if they do not fill in their Tax returns).

Also, Farangs on Retirement Extensions, cannot legally "Employ" a Thai in the legal sense.gigglem.gif
