I've decided to base myself and my brother here from 20-12 to 03-01. (14 days)
How cheap can I find accomidation?
The room will only be for sleeping and keeping bags. We'll mostly be renting motorbikes and touring, partying, going to KP in speedboat for each party etc.
I would love 500 per night and I don't mind going up to 1000 (both per person) though I'd rather not. Is this possible?
Thank you

Any noise from him yet? If not and you have tried his phone --if he has one here -- then an important call may need to be done. This is of course if you have no other options.
He ended up coming home at 3pm. Luckily he left very early with some girl. If he had stayed out drinking and started on the buckets I think it would be much worse.
-
Yeah, I'm in Bangkok at the moment. I was going to buy from Siam Square.
-
Basically, he hasn't drank for a year.
I was doing some work last night and he got drunk. We were meant to be going out but he met a Polish guy ans 2 Thai girls on the street. Mentioned something about ping pong. Told me he would pick me up in an hour but never come back.
It's now the next day at 11am.
What can I do, or is it too early yet and I should just wait?
Thanks

1400 baht is ridiculous. Better to buy a 'open' dongle that covers the '3G' 850MHz range. That way you can use either DTAC or TRUE. Not a problem if DTAC use open software, in so that you can enter the TRUE connection details if necessary.
Thanks!
Any idea where I could buy one?
-
Just to let people know I spoke to DTAC and they seem to think they have OK coverage on KP. It's also about 1400 for dongle. Cheers!

Hey,
I used to have a dongle in Australia when visiting. It was basically a little plastic thing I plugged in my laptop USB port and a SIM card was inside.
I was wondering if you can buy these things in Bangkok, but then would the connection work on Koh Phangan?
I write so I'd basically only require a connection good enough to upload tiny txt files then send. Once or twice per day would be OK.
Is this possible, or would I need to find a guest house with WiFi? I might do this anyway, but I really want a backup.
I don't have a phone to jack into.
Thank you

Just curious because I've not seen them. Price would be good too if you have it thanks.
Do they come in sweatproof?
-
I was wondering if anyone on Koh Phangan uses an iPad with cellular connection?
I kind of need to be online 24/7 for work. I don't need a strong connection. I just need to upload simple txt files for work and answer emails.
I'd love if there was a semi-decent 3g connection for when I'm not on Wi-Fi.
Thanks

Not sure if you still want to go to Mae Sai. But it may be also interesting for other people.
Compared to the other posts my recommendation seems to be cheaper, 500 THB per person by minibus, 2*5 hrs drive, 1 hrs stop in Mae Sai.
Very good driver. Fast but try to avoid risk.
Their telephone 053-699888, 053-699940.
The shop is located just across the railway station: 444/11-2 Rotfai Rd, T.Watket, A. Muang, Chiang Mai
It's good to know for future reference. Thanks

If you are doing a 30-day extension then it's VERY easy at immigation. You don't need to go early in the morning, go after the crowds and you'll get a number that is 2-8 numbers from being called and takes 2-hours tops. I've gone at either 9:30 AM (took 20 mins to call my number) or 2-3PM (took less than 10mins to call my number). After you turn in your paperwork, it takes about an hour to wait to get your passport back. If you go early early in the morning when everyone else is there or first in the afternoon, you'll be there forever.
I've done it 4 times now. The only time I had issue was when I needed medical extension (and THAT was a pita)
Wow, thanks. Do I need to go a day early to pick up the forms? Or can it all be done on teh same day?
-
I'm actually thinking it might be quicker and cheaper to just get the forms and get a 30 day ext from the immigration office near the airport.
Not sure of what you can get in Mai Sai. I thought it was only a 15 day pass.
Sorry, I actually meant a 30day ext in Chaing Mai. I had a look online and the process looked tedious, but it won't be as tedious as spending 11 hrs on a tour just so I can get an extra 15 days.

Used to do it by car, about 6 hours round-trip but fastest way is by bike for sure. If you can ride, get yourself a Kawasaki Versys for the day, or perhaps a cheaper CB400 for about 700 baht. Even a 125 would beat the bus handsdown.
I think by minibus is tour only. See if these are still running: 07.30 - 18.00, 650 baht so a long day.
I'm too scared of crashing lol.

Know a good car and driver round trip safe and sane 1500 bt. all inclusive English speaking
Picks me up at my door and drops me off at the line to cross and them back again.
Stops when and were I need and I want
Any chance of messaging me his number?

I want to go get my visa renewed at Mai Sai, but I can't be bothered playing about with buses all day.
Does anyone know of any way to go straight there in a minibus and how long it takes?
Cheers

You have to wait until you get to Bali to find cheap places to stay. Once you're there it's not hard.

Cheap to live while I build my online business.

I'm wondering if there's someone who is considered 'the best' artist in the city?
Thank you

I've had lots of tattoos done on my back at Wat Bang Phra.
Few dollars each

I was wondering if there was anywhere in Chiang Mai that sold lovely hammocks.
Not the cotton kind. The ones that stretch all around you when you get in and make you feel like you are in heaven.
They have them at the swimming pool in Pai.
Anyone know?
Cheers

I was wondering if there was anywhere that sold quality tobacco. Not that golden virginia or some flavored Thai stuff.
Some good stuff, maybe Port Royal etc or even better???
Cheers

Do you think I'll be able to find anywhere in Chiang Mai where I can exchange a £50 Scottish bank note?

Or will I just get ripped off?
I'll be going to KL in a few weeks anyway, but my latop literally breaks down 20x per day now so if it's only going to cost me an extra £50-100 I'd probably lose money by not buying it.
I know there's a computer shop in Tesco, but will they be any good?
Cheers
