  1. Hi

I am out of Thailand right now but will return for a 90 day visit at the time my 5yr license will be up for renewal

But I will have a change of residence address

My question is if I no longer live in the same province can I still renew my license in the province where

I got the original 5yr license ? Or do I need to renew it at the province my current residence certificate will now show as home?

    Thanks

I think we also have some of them in here as forum members, which claims they do self insurance till the point when they have to accept that their self insurance not work, because they not have the money. This not count for all people who do self insurance but I would guess the major of this people not have the money to do real self insurance.

True...These are the guys claiming no problem I have a bank card or credit card...Or better still...I'm healthy 555

    Dumb & Dumber

Like a person dumb enough to have a home made of wood but never buy fire insurance because you know he doesn't have any open flames or light anything

Actually from what I have seen,  very, very few people self-insure. Instead what we have are uninsured people who think that is called "self insured". It is not.

Self-insured = you have 1-5 million baht (3-5 if you want the option of using private hospitals) set aside for medical care, readily accessible, and you have some means of replenishing it as it is used.

By and large the people who find health insurance too expensive are retrirees with no new income coming in and no way of doing the above.

Health insurance is not only for the purpose of ensuring access to health care; it is also to help protect financial assets.

Boy that is the Truth! They say self insured but have no real savings

This will ultimately cause a ripple in Thailand with its growing aging expat population.

When enough hospitals govt or private get stung

Thailand is the world’s fourth-largest importer of paraquat, with sales soaring past Bt1 billion a year.

    Boom there it is!

This is why it will not be banned & this lady will be muzzled

Someone is making $$$ & cares not if the Thai people rot of cancer as long as they gain $$$

Worst yet is in many villages their water table their wells draw from is less than 3 meters below the surface

So this poison is in the air & likely perked into the water supply as well.

Even if you don't drink well water you likely wash with it & brush with it.

The starter of this thread said he wants to buy gold jewellery and not gold bullion of 100 baht weight.

Yes, I have not bought any 100 baht weight bullion before so I didn't comment on those prices.

    555 sorry I give up

For everyone else....Gold price is gold price period

1baht -100 baht weight does not matter

Yes jewelry has a small up charge of sellers choice but usually 500-1000 THB per

You pay up when buying ornament/jewelry & lose some when selling it

    Again-Against Spot Price as always

You don't seem to understand, not every shop in Thailand mark up the same way.

Yes I have lived in Thailand & dealt gold for many many years I think I do understand

But you bought a ring & think it is some kind of variable due to your experience

If instead you were buying 100+ baht weight at a time you would know

Anyway, I posted info folks can read

I found out that different shops in Chiang Mai sell their gold at different rates when I went to make a gold ring even on the same day.

Well it is of course a moving target just as the World Spot is

    http://www.kitco.com/market/

In the time it takes to drive to another shop price can change too.

But that is because price at world level has changed

But unless it is a very volatile day you should not be seeing much

What you may also be seeing is fabrication charges for jewelry difference

because your making a ring not buying bullion

But again price of "Gold" is world spot priced

  8. Gold price is World spot linked so all better shops should be the same.

The only difference you see is due to the fact Thai Gold is only 96.5% 1 baht weight

World spot is based on 99.9% 1 Troy ounce weight

    1 Thai baht gold = 15.244 grams x 0.965 = 14.71046 grams when converted to 99.9% troy ounce compare

And in conclusion, driving like I drive for 6 years in Thailand never ever did I find my self in danger. OK it could happen tomorrow but il always thought I was a lucky man with a good star and a good guardian angel.

I have a car too, last month we drove from Samui to Bueng Khan and back all in all 5000 km,  never did we found ourselves in danger, and believe me or not we did not even see an accident on that 5000 km drive.

Yes & may your luck continue

I also never had a accident in Thailand but, Thailand earns its Most Deadly Roads in The World title

with stats like 60 dead each & every day. This does not include those who die later at hospitals from accident

In a game of odds the odds are not greatly in your favor in Thailand period.

But good luck to you & I wish you a safe journey

never ever did I drive so slowly in my country, never.

Almost no Westerners or expats drive that way, I mean here in Samui, every day I see tourist young and older driving on the medium lines waiting constantly to overtake.

Personally, I am not afraid I will have an accident on Thai roads, unless very bad luck always possible of course,

But for all those I just mentioned much less sure.

I don't disagree that being cautious helps but,

After living many years in Thailand & watching the carnage I have no illusions that any

amount of caution can stop stupid from thrashing you from behind, the side etc etc

Thailand #1 most deadly roads in the WORLD period

Ever see a truck clean thru 20+ bikes waiting at a stop light?

They were not going fast they were stopped

Good Luck but in Thailand that is all it is. No amount of skill or caution

can save you. Of course it helps but it is not a shield

i think there is compulsory insurance in Thailand now

Just Porabol (govt no fault type) which is not high limits I believe

I think it is only 3rd party bodily & property insurance with low values since it costs

    so little per year

If the driver owns nothing they buy that about 4k a year I think & 1500 a year on scooters etc

They buy it because they have nothing to lose. If they own things they want a more comprehensive coverage of course
