Landlords have the notion the deposit is a "tip" they are entitled to without any effort. Personally, I couldn't leave a mess behind, it just isn't in my nature. I even make sure my hotel rooms are tidy before I leave. That being said, the landlord of the apartment was never going to return the deposit, probably one of the reasons they rented to foriengers to begin with, soft targets.

My father owned rental properties. We would spend every weekend renovating a vacant unit. That particular unit in Patayya would be considered an easy job. At least the trash had been collected. A window screen can be fixed in half an hour & a new door hung in half an hour as well. We would have been happy to have a project that could be done in a day or two.

I dont like the idea of my money or my spending habits being recorded. In my opinion, it's an opportunity for a govt over reach situation.
