Phuket, the drug island, is getting quite a reputation it seems
Is it?

Easily done, see plenty of very large logs, semi-submerged roll in on the swell, actually surprised it doesn't happen more often here at this time of year to those not used to the beach and waves.

For a western style Chinese, 'Wokstar" in Rawai, haven't eaten there but have had via Grab a few times, good for a craving and all the usual dishes.

I believe it is you who became older, and they still are as attentive to the age you once was before the smarthphones ????
Times changes, no matter what the past is behind for good and bad.
You didn't live here before smart phones did you?

The girls got more options you say? They got better educated ? They know their price? They only need one sucker who is paying more than 3 cheap customers?
No, non of the above, they just stopped being as attentive.

Would imagine, as with everywhere, those businesses that target a good customer base, and provided a good product for good price are doing fine.
Those that relied on intern'l tourist, didn't provide value for price ... oh well.
When we were down there a few times, the past 2 ish years, our favorite vendors were doing just fine, when most others were shuttered.
Yeah I moved from chalong to Rawai 7 months ago, most cafes are doing ok mainly d/t the high expat population, definitely more tourists about but not the numbers of pre-covid obviously, very different to Kata and Karon, was there yesterday and still very quiet.

I live in Chalong and go to Wilson's regularly and believe me they are doing just fine...it's always half to fully full when I'm there. The same with Unnis nearby. That being said, most small businesses and hotels/guesthouses are lucky if 15-20 percent occupancy (and that's not even counting the innumerable ones that have closed for good). The owner where I'm currently staying estimates that overall business activity on her street is 10% or less than it was pre-pandemic.
Pretty sure he's referring to Kata and Karon when he quite rightly said both spots very quiet, not Wilson's.

Fair point for many places, easily forgotten that things were downhill from the top before covid started.
Now covid years later, aside inflation, i really not expect even a 50% recovery soon. Yet everyone seems to buy bars.
I don’t mind really, it makes TH nicer.
"Yet everyone seems to buy bars".... really?

They're still building something new on the Tesco side, not sure if it's part of the WP or not though.
Yeah the 3m wave heights definitely BS but whatever it is will be fun.

If they build something like that in Bangkok that would make sense. But who needs artificial waves and an artificial beach in Phuket? What next? Artificial sun?
We don't have surfable waves all year round and what we do gets pretty average most of the time.

How many people out spending money each night?
Let's say 100 bars each with 100 customers, that is 10,000 people.
Each person spends an average of 2000 baht.
That gives a daily revenue of 20 million.
They are being conservative. You've convinced me...I'm off to open 3 or 4 bars.... can't go wrong!!!

Gonna need millions of Indians a month to hit those numbers...0.5 rupees to the baht!!

Excellent, a 3m wave, will definitely be checking that out.
Wonder if dual pricing will kick in.
Website needs some work.
Wouldn't want to be a Splash Jungle investor, COVID now this, maybe some cheap 2nd hand water slides on Phuket for sale soon!!

A bunch of losers who are no body in their home land and living like legally but refugees in a foreign land is showing their racist attitudes towards another ethnicity because their stomachs are churning up with the news. Of course most Indians are perhaps coming with their families unlike single westerners who are in search of their brides because they can't get one in their own country.
Of curse and perhaps in the same sentence!!

Thanks Pag. I got back from Bangkok Bank in Phang-Nga road.
They only really need my passport and the proof of address letter.
I'm opening up a US dollar denominated account. Foreign currency accounts are held at the head office in Bangkok, but you can open one here and then they sent the paperwork.
KB, can you update this on what was needed to open the USD account when complete?
I tried at SCB about 10 years ago and it was so complicated I gave up.
