  1. What, if any are the advantages to having a PC over a laptop to use in a hotel reception ?

I ask the question as we have a receprtion area that is not secure & lock up the laptop at nights. I am being told that to run Excell is different to on a PC than Excell on a laptop which I doubt. The arguement given for having a PC is " have you ever seen a big hotel that doesnt use a PC.

    Advice ideas please.

  2. 100 million "dent" in the economy?

That translates to a loss of 5000 tourists each spending 20,000.

What time frame is he talking about? I think the calibre of the tourists going to the district for a weekend of nooky are not the 20,000-in-a-weekend type of customers, and not in those numbers either.

You have no idea on the economy and price that is in betong..I have been there every weekends for a 2 years time frame and trust me the tourists there spent 20,000 per night and some even more( for myself I spend around 20,000 - 40,000 baht every weekend).. Me and my friends can spent 600,000- 1,000,000 baht for a 4 days trip..

So please get your fact right before you judge something..

Sent from my i-mobile IQ 5.3 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

So, you must be a great and important person since you are such spenders. You must surely too have many important and influential friends in high places too. You and your friends can continue to spend your money but do not forget to tell us how good you are so the rest of us have someone to look up to and admire.

I see that you have an I-mobile IQ 5.3, which costs about 5500 baht?
Why do you buy such a mobile with your big money?
You say you spend 20 'to 40,000 every weekend in Bentong it gets about 1.5 million a year and you buy an I-mobile IQ 5.3cheesy.gifcheesy.gifclap2.gifclap2.gif

Oh, so if you have money you must buy an expensive phone ? Wow there are so many total fools on this forum. He even thinks he is funny but is obviously a sad example of a human sheep.

The owner of the phone probably has lots of money to spend because he is not a fashion victim who has to buy the most expensive phone even though a Imoble does everything an iphone does except make a big profit for Apple....... perhaps he want to buy from a Thai company supporting local industry instead of making some capitalist American company profit

  3. do take precautions when travelling around Oudomxay province and other sino-lao border provinces.do carry a compact portable water filter.

I would suggest that you only drink bottled water in all of Laos. Here in Vang Vieng the tap water is oftem brown in colour, as far as I am aware they have no water treatment plant here drawing from a reservoir and the local river.

  4. The Rocket is a very nice film (Englsh Subtitles) and the Bomb Harvest is an informative documentary. Another interesting film is 'The Secret War' which is about America's CIA time in Laos. The part that sticks in my mind is Nixon telling the American public that they were not in Laos when they had been there for 5 years !!

I found both of them on Torrents.

Shame on America for its lack of effort in clearing the 80 million unexploded bombs 40+ years after they left ! and all praise to MAG who are clearing the bombs bit by bit.

  5. He added that job opportunities will be another issue that affects the refugees when they return to Myanmar

Without sounding vindictive:; what about the job opportunities that are taken away from us, because of foreigners.

Taking jobs away from thais ? unemployment is very low in Thailand & the Burmese do jobs that Thais generally do not want. Why do Thai employers use them ? because they are cheap and actually have a work ethic unlike Thais......

  6. Staff in the catering car routinely drink or are drunk, with no supervision. On my last night train journey about 2 years ago from Surat Thani up to Bkk the staff in the catering car were very drunk and high and charged me 150B for a bottle of chang. I politely said it was usually 6o or 80 baht or whatever it usually was at the time. They were very agressive and stuck to this 150B price and were clearly enjoying my situation, making sure I could see that they were putting my overcharge in their pocket. Well, I spent at least 1,500B for beer on that trip and was the last time I used the night train, and quit drinking not long after that. Horrible having scrotes like the drunk SRT staff holding power over you like that.

you could have abstained from drinking during your journey if you didnt want to be ripped off.......

  7. The US Ambassador is using US taxpayer money to limo around to meet with the likes of Mr. Abhisit, and pander to the party leader who led his party in to not showing up for a national election. US taxpayers are very happy to see this wasteful use of US tax dollars to hold such a meeting in a military dictatorship like Thailand, the day of the human trafficking report.

Yes, taxpayers must be livid because all other ambassadors ride bicycles and eat only at KFC.

This is serious business for anyone who cares about human rights. For some reason the full scope of this story doesn't seem to have hit the mainstream media in America and when it does... Americans of their own volition will stop buying anything made in Thailand. When Thailand refused to sign the UN resolution it really screwed the pooch.

Considering that Americans are the #2 buyer of Thai exports, have a major investment in manufacturing in Thailand, provide Thailand with some of its best military hardware, and have a treaty to defend Thailand if attacked, I'd say that Thailand had better wake up.

If Thailand loses America, Canada, Australia and the EU it is toast. It won't require governments. The people will boycott.

Yeah, right... The USA having such an unblemished sheet on human right abuses.... like the general american public will stop buying products beacause of Thailands record ! its all down to price, they coiuldnt give a s*it about anything else.

Does the average american have any concept of life outside of its own country ? seems unless they are in another country killing people the US public have little understanding of the world around them.

  8. Since the Cambos left last week I have nobody to tend the fields all day in the rain.

Any takers (from the ex-politico pool)??? I pay full-whack (300 baht a day)...

Full Wack ? No you pay the legal minimum, thats like saying 'if I could get away with paying less I would'

That said, 300 Baht per day for a useless unemployable MP is way too much, better to turn them into pig feed as they have already spent lots of time at the trough and its probably the only way they will ever pay back the poor who they stole from. Sleaseball bacon anyone ?

Alternatively someone could set up a circus using the unemployed MP's - plenty of clowns available, a few illusionists (yes they can make rice disappear) & the public would love to see them walk the tightrope. Circus Corruptus ?

  9. Is there not a Thai fairy tale about pigs at the trough ? Would be far more relevant

And daddy bear was at the pink trough, it was the fullest one available, unfortunately (maybe) all the other pigs were trying to eat out of the same trough.

Orange bear (red & yellow mixed) had already 'salted' the food with poison so they all died and everyone else lived happily ever after. This farm went on to become the most honest & progressive farm in Asia & were so superior that they ruled the world. & then I woke up......................

  10. "He made a plea for hotels and the government to set aside areas for taxis. “Some people support the action [against the taxi drivers], while others do not. The taxis want to ask for humanity from the government and from hotels, to share the area where they can make a living. They have a right to do that.”

Just as the hotel owners had rights too that the taxi mafia ignored, perhaps now they know what it feels like.... humanity is something the taxi drivers should have had but didnt, why should others whose lives they have been making hell forgive and allow them near their establishments... You reap as you sow...... Karma coming back on them :)

The taxi mafia have damaged the reputation of the whole island and they want people to treat them like they were human ? try treating your customers as that, not just atm's to steal from.

If they want sympathy tell them to look in the dictionary between sh*t and syphillis

  12. I have some great video of the Khon Kaen fire chief using all the fire trucks and road machines to build his restaurant at the top end of the lake. Of course on top of all this was the drivers and trucks who were involved for months on the operation.

All paid out of the public pot.

Every vehicle is stamped with the government logo.

When I questioned the receptionist at a nearby hotel she said 'This is Thailand..who going to stop big man' ?

Should I post the video to all the Thai tv stations, newspapers or just put it on youtube?

    Yes, yes & yes :)

  13. Thai schools are finding a great solution to the issues of hiring Farang - Filipinos.

They often have degrees in math, science and education. Most of them speak English quite well to near native. They will work for less, work longer hours and not raise a stink when they are asked to do something beyond their job description.

This is hardly a solution, We employ staff from the local college, English taught by a Fillipino, I cannot understand them & I am English !!! There is a reason they get paid so little, its because like Thais they cannot speak English that English speakers can understand so therefore cannot teach with any compitance.

  14. everyone seems to be looking at this position as what do I have to gain from it, well not everyone needs money or a permit, for some this would be an excuse to get out of the house and maybe meet people, be social and not have to live at the bar to do it.

They are always complaining about foreigners taking the jobs of Thai's... This is one area they should pay a qualified Thai not give the job to a falang who is stupid enough to work for free.

They should practice what they preach. Immigration makes lots of money so no problems paying a Thai to work there.

Thats assuming they can actually find a Thai with English degree that can actually speak english.

Happy to rip of foreigners but don't really want to pay their own people.

Gets you out of the house ? but deprives a Thai of 20000 Baht a month salary...stay at home with your bottle instead of wanting to steal other peoples jobs.

  15. I think they should make every effort to stamp out drugs....but it will not be 100% effective. It's a bit like poisoning rabbits back home in Oz. You will get 99% but the others will slip away and start breeding somewhere else.

If the USA after 40 years and spending billions on stopping drugs has totally faled what an earth makes you think they can stamp it out here.

Legalise & tax, the users are going to do it anyway !
