Won't it be fun when they get around to the companies that own land and rent it to their farang minority shareholders?

Never understood the mentality of not allowing some groups of foreigners (like say retirees) to own a limited amount of land, say a maximum of 1 Rai or even only 100 Wah would suffice. This would obviously be only for personal residence with tax penalties if sold within say 3 or 5 years to discourage property speculators misusing such a system. This would avoid a lot of these problems with Thai nominee shareholders being used and be good for Thailand by encouraging more genuine falang retirees to move here and bring in of course regular foreign currency.

Maybe as we now at last have an intelligent open minded and progressive Government (shows us all how sometimes democracy does not actually work as well), they may well read our TVF threads here on this issue and consider all the implications of making such a sensible move and actually bring in such legislation to allow a restricted and limited foreign land ownership for those who would qualify.

Why should any country sell its land to foreigners ?

Seems some countries that have done so own very little of their own country.

If you want security as a foreigner take a long lease.... if you dont like the law of the country you are living in then exercise your free will to go elsewhere.

Having said this I am aware off certain short comings in Lion Air but things are improving fast. They are a huge airline now Malindo/Batik/wings/Lion Thai/Lion. They have their own flight school, training center and simulators. Right now Thai Lion is a much safer airline to fly on than Nok Air. Unfortunately I can not get into details here but lets put it nicely; Nok Air is not taking safety serious.

P2F; yes I am aware of this; Ryanair comes to mind and many other airlines in the world... So if a pilot is willing to pay to fly why Lion Air can take those guys too,

In the year 2017 there will be no expats or long term residents under 50 years old left in Thailand. Good for the old man , can keep the young chicks for himself.

Probably by 2017 they will have tightened up on retirement visas, such as increase the age, amount in Bank x 10, stop issuing retirement extensions making you go back to your home country to apply for a retirement visa with police checks etc yearly. So maybe there will only be a few over 50's left.....

I recall the same reponse to someone who asked about visa agents in Vientiane, I was interested & did indeed go to Google which had so little to offer...one of those cases where it is easier to find the info on a forum as Google had only 3 listed.

I thought the idea of this forum was to offer helpful advice to newbies, for OP there is so much out of date info on Google re the visa situation due to this current shake up that he is likely to be more confused if he did use Google.

New rules to increase the required study would be great news. Would Make it harder for the people that have no interest in studying and are just it in for visa. Awesome.

However 4x days a week should be changed to 4 hours for 2 days per week. 2 hours per day is a bit silly.

So because you are in a position to have a visa you think its ok that people under 50 who do not wish to be an ATM (marry) or have Thai children should not be allowed to stay ?

Typical of the mean spirited expats who are lucky to be able to get a visa for long stay. I hope they tighten up on retirement visas like making you apply yearly from your home country including police checks etc.

No wonder Thailand wants to get rid of long stay falangs, reading on Thaivisa shows how petty westerners who live here are. Better of with just 30 day max tourists should help clean up the sexpat scene

What, if any are the advantages to having a PC over a laptop to use in a hotel reception ?

I ask the question as we have a receprtion area that is not secure & lock up the laptop at nights. I am being told that to run Excell is different to on a PC than Excell on a laptop which I doubt. The arguement given for having a PC is " have you ever seen a big hotel that doesnt use a PC.

You have no idea on the economy and price that is in betong..I have been there every weekends for a 2 years time frame and trust me the tourists there spent 20,000 per night and some even more( for myself I spend around 20,000 - 40,000 baht every weekend).. Me and my friends can spent 600,000- 1,000,000 baht for a 4 days trip..

So please get your fact right before you judge something..

I would suggest that you only drink bottled water in all of Laos. Here in Vang Vieng the tap water is oftem brown in colour, as far as I am aware they have no water treatment plant here drawing from a reservoir and the local river.

The Rocket is a very nice film (Englsh Subtitles) and the Bomb Harvest is an informative documentary. Another interesting film is 'The Secret War' which is about America's CIA time in Laos. Staff in the catering car routinely drink or are drunk, with no supervision. On my last night train journey about 2 years ago from Surat Thani up to Bkk the staff in the catering car were very drunk and high and charged me 150B for a bottle of chang. I politely said it was usually 6o or 80 baht or whatever it usually was at the time. They were very agressive and stuck to this 150B price and were clearly enjoying my situation, making sure I could see that they were putting my overcharge in their pocket. Well, I spent at least 1,500B for beer on that trip and was the last time I used the night train, and quit drinking not long after that. Horrible having scrotes like the drunk SRT staff holding power over you like that.
