  1. Unless you have ever been close to committing suicide you should keep your thoughts to yourself.

I had a friend in Pattaya who was having real depression problems, there is very little help availalble & even if there was some people cannot be helped. He finally opted to go that way despite a lot of imput from others.

I have been close to doing the same, at that point ones brain isnt necessarily functioning normally & maybe for some it is a better alternative to living.

Less judgement and more compassion would be such an improvement if TV contributors could apply them when posting. What do Thais think of falangs when they read posts I wonder ?

  2. Deport them both, there is enough hot headed farang idiots in the country as it is. If you are involved in a fight and use weapons your visa should be cancelled and stamped never to return. Might make some farangs act a little more civil if they know boom boom is going to be cut off.

Didn't know you were a Basil Brush fan.

Basil Brush ? Man you are showing your age :) guess 95% of readers have no idea who Basil Brush was ! & I'm not sure they have missed much !

  3. Hi,

I was wondering if there were any shops that sell cigarette papers (king size) and filters (6mm) in Nong Khai or even Udon Thani if necessary ? Even a wholesalers address would be ok.

Also looking for a cheap tablet computer, apart from the arcade next to Tesco are there any other good places to go to ?

Oh, one more where can I get Weetabix in the town ? couldn't see any in Tesco last time I crossed the bridge.

    Thanks

    David

  4. Just back from six days in Luang Prabang. Busy wee place and quite a few higher end tourists, still lots of backpackers though.

Mrs wanted to do the alms giving one morning and the only locals to be seen were the ones selling food to give the "monks". whistling.gif.pagespeed.ce.FVjgnKnWS1.pn

Recent article in some magazine said there aren't enough locals left in Luang Prabang for the monks to get enough food and tour agencies now supply their food. If you noticed, the tour agencies now lay out the food offerings and at the last minute the minibus loads of tourists rush in and the tourists go and sit down behind the food (for the monks) that has been laid out.

In my opinion this makes the alms giving thing a sham. It's suppose to be a religious activity giving local buddhists the OPPORTUNITY to give alms to the monks for making merit. But then again ... not many locals left. It's become a kind of Lao Disneyland ... although I must admit it's still a charming place if you don't think about the reality.

The Alms giving is an embarrassment, the Monks did not want to do it but were told if they didn't the Government would dress non monks in robes as its a profitable tourist event.

Disreputable Laos are selling substandard food to tourists to give to the monks.

My worry as Laos develops its tourism industry the locals become more 'Thai' and rip off tourists, already I see it happening in Vang Vieng & Luang Prabang.

  5. Prostitution is illegal in Thailand, that's why Pat Pong, Soi Cowboy, and Nana Plaza don't really exist;

Illegal under certain circumstances, and at least one of the circumstances, "promiscuous," isn't defined. It's more complicated than you know. Pat Pong, Soi Cowboy, and Nana Plaza aren't in violation of the law. Even if they were, the fines would be small. So you don't really know what you're talking about on this point as well.

who are you going to believe, ME, or your lying eyes?

    YOU? laugh.png

No, the law that you haven't quoted after asked. Nor have you given any evidence of fines, judgments, or deportations--because you can't. BTW, a police bribe for sake of greater convenience isn't a fine.

So, merely TV hot air and bluster.

If you really believe in the event that your unfortunate enough to be in a bar that is raided and that you recollect that there is NO law stipulating that you are required to produce your passport or that there is a 24 hour period that you are entitled to produce, then Knock yourself out. I've been in those situations personally and anyone without a passport or carrying copies eventually cashed-out just to go home.

You just can't grasp the point. Nobody said you don't have to produce a passport. In fact, if you read my post, I said just the opposite. In the raid mentioned in the OP only 4 foreigners were "arrested." ALL the others were carrying their passports? No.

And now you're conceding "or carrying copies," which is exactly what I said. You're just appearing to disagree while unconsciously agreeing. Duh.

As for your alleged "arrests," you offer no documented details on the specific cases and you don't know the specific reasons, the real reasons, they "cashed out," IF they did. Mere hearsay.

  6. Boys will be boys ? Nasty horrid bullies will be nasty horrid adults if left unchallenged !

Typical bully, needing 20 mates to sort out one boy so a real man then, bet he feels big.

Probably a Hi So offspring who knows that there will be no consequences to his actions. I hope someone invites Mr Ice for a bit of a tit for tat :) Uni from a wheel chair might be suitable karma............. I don't normally subscribe to vigilaties but when the law doesnt work and a boy needs a bit of guidance :) Perhaps they should publish which Uni he is off to so that suitable ragging can be arranged. Hot poker & where the sun doesn't shine maybe.

One thing I noticed, the boy has one surname, the mother another and also the father has another ?? whats been going on there ?

  7. Nice wristwatch on the arm of the accuser in the picture. Wonder how much that cost and where did those funds come from?

1000 Baht, Koh San Rd, a Thai Rolex no doubt, that guy gives all his money to the Temple :)

Oh dear, he must be guilty of something, he has a bit of Bling on his wrist.... talk about accusing people with zero proof, maybe instead of buying beer every day he saved his money up..... Oh & BTW he is not charged with anything, just a bit of Whistle blowing on the corrupt & you are trying to throw accusations at him, friend of the Monk are you or American as they dont like whistle blowers either....

  8. Wonder if Supreme Distribution will now be upping their price to compensate for the hassle and as they now appear to be the sole bidder ?

It's just another TRASH company that sells broken cheap trash... clap2.gifclap2.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Be careful what you write, this sounds like a good case to sue for deformation. I hope you have solid evidence to back up your slander. I suspect you have no knowledge of this company and its your butt doing the typing.

  9. Dusit Thani Hotel and Intercontinental Hotel, harboring anti democratic terrorists with arrest warrants for murder.... great headline.

<sarcasm> really smart move by the executive directors of these hotels </sarcasm> if they dont get criminal charges brought against them, they at the very least should be sacked.

Why should they be sacked, seems to me they are just taking in guests which are at the moment a bit thin on the ground. Terrorists ? warrants for murder, get real, seems half the mp's have murder charges against them.... FFSake, they are in business, freedom of speach does exist here ? they can sell to who ever they want.

What have the managers done wrong ?

Infact they deserve promotion, headlines are good for business & who cares what crap the government turn out about there opponents, no one believes them.

If the media is to be believed all parties in this situation are hardly honest upstanding citizens, perhaps to save your later condemnations no hotel should serve the current ruling party as they will shortly be charged with numerous crimes,

  10. Why don't you just fly with another carrier instead of moaning on this forum.

Why should they employ pretty girls who speak English ? its a Thai carrier and rightly speak their own language. Pretty so you can grope and make the usual sex tourist comment to them ? go fly some muslim airlne, you want girls go to your usual go go bars and if you want to complain do it to the airline not uninterested expats.

"Acting" president Chokchai.... sure, he is acting all right.... I wish he would stop acting and do his job!

It is scary to know that some might go on strike and not work. Does that include maintenance engineers?! On second thought, I guess that means it will be normal day for TG.

I'd like to offer up some "constructive" criticism for TG to upgrade their airlines. Please let me invite others to add comments, as we are all trying to improve our National Carrier!

    1. Improve the food - the food in business class and especially economy is disgusting. It is cold, rubbery, and all taste the same. The wine selections are good, but it's like I'm having a cocktail on my TG flights because I only drink and I can hardly eat the food.

    2. Get rid of your air hostesses - they used to remind me of my aunts, now they remind me of my grand mother. Really, is it necessary to have some fat, ugly sourpuss who thinks she is entitled serving me? Get these smug, useless women off the plane and replace them with some gorgeous, polite, English speaking young Thai women. I am tired of trying of asking for water in broken English. This is 2014 not 1976.

    3. More new planes - the old ones look like something out of Pirates of the Carribean. Old, dirty, smelly, things broken, toilet looks like it is from Isaan.

    4. Nicer ground staff - girls hired at TG have "connections." Therefore the most important criteria - "service mind" is optional. Fire impatient, incompetent staff... there are some good ones, but there are some awful ones who think because they wear the TG uniform, they can act like pigs.

    5. Change your purple color and your logo - again, get into the 21st century. Your color and logo look like something out of a 1950s movie.

    6. Better frequent flyer program - current one entitles everyone to have privileges. Business class lounges worse than waiting at the gate.

    7. Business class lounges - the food, the service, God awful... go look at SQ and Cathay to see how it should be done.

  11. I have no time for thieves, they should all be locked up... just a shame the law is not consistent here. i.e. you can get less time for killing someone if you know the right people.

Well I guess you don't live in Thailand then, not liking thieves... The government & most vendors are robbing from tourists. Stay in your home country where corruption (which is theft) happens, maybe not as in your face as Asia but it still happens everywhere.

Lock up every thief......lol, not enough prisons in the world. Of course you have never stolen, cheated on your taxes etc..... Neither I suspect have you been starving & stolen to live...but go ahead, judge everyone. Please do it from your armchair.

As to the boy in question, drunk so probably didnt mean to steal the phone, better for him to have driven into a bus stop and killed a few people.... I mean, a phone is far more important than a few Thai lives and doesnt carry a risk of prison.

  12. here we go - Let's face it - since Dr. Seri said on stage and on TV (Blue Sky that is) that yellow skinned people are smarter than white skinned people there is a huge demand now not only for "yellowing" products - but now white women in Thailand are "pulling there eyes" in adds to look Asian because they want to be seen as smart!

There is also another great opportunity for "medical tourism" in Thailand. "Asian eye surgery" available in Hazelnut, Ocean Blue and Emerald Green - kind of like a facelift just a bit higher up.

We call it the "Smart Eyes" look or something? biggrin.png

    .

I think you could be on to something here !

Contrary the media opinion, I think it is a rather clever ad, portraying the Chinese to be superior to non Asian races. The idea of Crixforever could become a reality as China becomes number one powerhouse of the world and some fashion victims will probably want to emulate them !

Whatever the outcome the Mall Management company certainly got its moneys worth as they are now known worldwide laugh.png

  13. I have the dubious honour of working in a Laos hotel and see a fair number of these tourists. I find generally they are cheapskates, they bring beer & street food back to a 4 star hotel and seem to haggle over every purchase when shopping. I can always spot a Thai at breakfast by the amount they pile on their plates and by their repeated trips to the buffet :)

And of course they feel they are superior to the locals being mainly from Bangkok.

Poor tipppers by the way but quite amusing to watch :)

  14. I like Lao Central airlines, they fly out of Suvarnbumhi and charge $120 return trip. I have used them problem free several times and would recommend them. They fly an Airbus 320 ? & fly three times a week from memory.

It is a far better alternative than Nok Air or Air Asia as Lao Central fly in to Vientiane & you dont have to get across to Don Muang.

  15. The problem with the reporting is that the hotel has to fill in two forms, one for each guest and a total sheet. The information required includes when visa was issued & when expire.

Not only this you have to personally take them to immigration within the time frame. They do not let you do it online here in Pattaya.

I wonder if every establishment conformed to this rule where they would put all the paperwork !

  16. Hmmmm...the facts don't add up here...a bloke on a UK pension has enough cash to buy a yacht big enough to carry a 3 ton dead weight cargo.

What doesn't add up ? the guy was over 65, therefore in UK terms a pensioner. He may have a lot of pensions as well as the state one. He also presumably saved during his working years. He could have been a $ millionaire but would still be a pensioner

It would be very easy for a pensioner to afford a yacht had he a good job when he worked.

  17. You have obviously never been rich from drug smuggling. Every drug lord worth his salt always builds a dungeon with his 1st bit of profit. It's this years 'Have to get' fashion item. tsss some people know nothing !

So much blood sweat and tears go into these dungeons, not necessarily by the builders though :)

You have to keep the underlings in check ! & you can always rent a good dungeon out to S&M pundits :)

  18. I have one in Phayao they can go arrest too... sick.gif can we join a sad ripped off old man' club?

Maybe you can all get together and file a class action.

Think that is when you have one person to sue !

Unless of course all previous men ripped off by this lady get together smile.png

So private action it is CrisRMenumate but don't hold your breath, I've heard the legal system can be a tad slow.......

Actually you have given me a great idea, I'm setting up a 'Sad Ripped Off Old Mans Club'... as all potential members are somewhat gullible I'm setting the fee at 200000 Baht a year :)

  19. What sane person would leave valuables on the seat of a bike in the early hours of the morning - it takes just seconds to snatch a bag and make off into the night.

The couple got their just deserts and hope they never come back to these shores after taking out their anger on the first people they saw.

What sane person would believe the news as presented by that outfit ?

Had you read the previous posts you would have known a different angle of the story is reported elsewhere & the original source is often inaccurate in its reporting.

But no, in typical Thaivisa style you have judged them guilty and branded them fools. Thank god you are not a judge, coming to a verdict without a chunk of the facts.

  20. There are Moo Bans and Condominium projects going up at an alarming rate in Chiang Mai. Where are they going to get all the buyers from... or is it just money laundering???

I just bought a house. The developer who is a friend says the government has BORROWED so much over the last few years snd fiktered a lot to banks to LEND AT FAVOURABLE RATES to big developers..land h. punna..siri etc... they are buiding on speculation and cheap borrowed government money just the same as before 1997.

    And they cant sell.

They are hoping and were hoping for chinese influxes but as the developers buikd and try to SELL the givernment only allows thais to buy and borrow on wages they cannot afford to sustain a mortgage.

Buy if you take a mortgage over tge property in your name or in a BOI company. Otherwise BEWARE
