  1. "when bites on his legs became infected."

He died from infection, not a tropical disease???

bites can cause both and at the same time

Where did you get your medical degree, 555?

Bites don't "cause" infection. Scratching bites with dirty fingers and unwashed skin causes infection.

OMG the trolls are out on something as sad as this. Yes we know most of this , but it is surely the time you take to get the proper treatment for an infection which would be the important factor, I would have thought.

RIP Muzz, a sad way to go.

  2. Applause the cleric for saying he was not angry about this , condemn the people who filmed it and tried to make issue of it.

Personally , in this day and age , I think all who are wearing any clothing that is capable of hiding stuff should be screened , and those that wear burkas etc should be taken to a private area and subjected to an identity check , by a woman officer of course.

Any way I thought that Seikhs wore 'turbans' , splitting hairs here I know.

  3. If the EU does slap them with a Red Card, it's highly likely the US will follow suit, and if that happens, Thailand is well and truly screwed.

Yes , but isn't there another post on here today regarding how USA wants a bigger share in what is happening in Thailand now.

Maybe they could create a new fishing infrastructure that does away with cheap manual laborers needed on fishing boats and provide automated fishing boats or something.

Anyway, the way I see it is the Thai Authorities couldn't stop what is going on in the industry, even if they wanted to, due to lack of education , training and resources, all leading toward one thing , THEY WOULDNT HAVE A BLOODY CLUE WHERE TO BEGIN ERRADICATING the problems.

  4. Maybe the USA is feeling left out of the economic party going on between Thailand, Japan and more importantly China, relating to the recent discussions about improvements to the transport infrastructure and aviation servicing.

But I would beg a couple of questions.

Which would you rather impress your neighbours with. A sleek looking bullet train system or a great big lumbering looking old loco system???

Does the USA have anything like a bullet train system to offer?

  5. So what will the Airforce and the Navy do with their planes? - or will we have to wait whilst they carry out their important military flights without notice?

I see no mention of a rail link - just the prospect of another 3 to 4 years of road works as local routes are upgraded.

Development - big hotels, air planes landing all right next to the Thai military arsenals and the Petro-Chemical Industries biggest installations - boy they really know how to get all the ingredients together for a major air disaster!

It would be ironic if Laos airlines were to use the place - At least they will have a lovely long runway, built with the aid of the US so that B52s could take off with a full bomb payload and drop them indiscriminately upon the Plain of Jars and other scenic parts of Laos....

It will just be a joint-use (military and commercial) airport like it already is, but the commercial share will increase. Military and commercial aircraft will use the runaway but there will be different aircraft ramp parking and hangars. Lots of major and minor joint-use airports around the world. Heck, Don Muaeng Airport Bangkok has been like that forever.

You will notice that it is already known as U-tapao International , this is because commercial flights to / from Russia have been operating in and out of there for quite some time already.

  6. I've always thought the BIB were the "missing link".

As in the knuckle dragging kind. coffee1.gif

You are worse than the Thai government with your acronym. What is a BIB?

Huh , A senior member on TVN does not yet understand probably the most widespread acronym in use on TVN yet?

BIB = Boys In Blue, ( the police ) maybe it is just a British thing as Police in the UK are often referred to as BIB due to the Uniforms of past and Blue flashing lights etc etc .

Though it may be confusing to some as in Thailand the BIB are never seen wearing blue uniforms , though they do wear a sort of sh*tt* sort of brown colour in some cases or Black. So BIB could still be referred to them in its usage as an acronym I guess.

    Hope that helps wai2.gif

  7. simple , his kick stand was down, this can not happen on a Honda as bike wont sart with the stand down...

Aha! A logical well reasoned comment on TVN, don't see many of them on subjects like this.

Yes, it meant the bike stand remained extended in its parking position when it should have been retracted into its riding position before riding off, it did not mean the stand had been lengthened??

That is one good thing about Hondas , and a bloody good thing too. I on many occasions years ago had a Suzuki and was constantly forgetting to put the stand up , and yes caused me to have a few wobbly moments and on 1 occasion a smash too.

  8. Yes and no doubt the same is happening in respect to the Koh Tao murders. The British Government has no excuse however. I wonder what the Austrailan Government would do if it were their citizens , apparently they don't pussy foot and khaowtaow to diplomatic courtesies if Oz citizens are affectd by lawlessness and or corruption over here. As said previously, UK Diplomatic corps , NO BALLS

  9. students cant fail a degree, is this correct? whats the point of having one then? it would mean nothing apart from student managed to pay for course for four years sad.png

Unfortunately yes, for some courses in some universitiessad.png This is a major problem. I was at a seminar recently and the speaker reported that employers in Thailand lament the fat that "many Thai graduates don't know anything". This no fail policy must change, especially at university level. Unfortunately, too much money and palms are greased for this to effectively happen. And it's not just private universities involved too.

I am working in a University currently, which is regarded as a top academic producer of referenced research papers.

Now , I am not sure whether what I am experiencing here also relates to the main University campus in BKK, but in the campus I work in, which it must be said is also very new and still under construction, some of the subjects being undertaken and tested on during the end of term tests, include:-

Petanque ( Boules ) , Table Tennis , Golf and Karaoke.

In the Karaoke test this week, one question as follows was included in the test:- Which of the following is the lead singer of Carabao? A B C D E

Kind of just about sums it up really , doesn't it.

  10. I have helped students at both Payap U.and Chiang Mai U. with some studies. I have been amazed by the large number of students that will copy something directly from a source without citing it. Additionally I have found that cheating in exams is rampant. Teachers do nothing about it. Students will even text answers to each other in the classroom during tests. As with what has been said here , I did ask a few Thai teachers (university level) concerning these matters. The answers were it doesn't matter , they would still have to pass them. That is the truth about "some" of the problems with the Thai educational system. Additionally I have had extreme difficulty in having a conversation with three separate Thai English teachers , they were unable to understand the content of my sentences while discussing some of these matters. It took several attempts at and the use of several different words to have a small polite exchange , even though they were the English teachers......for what it is worth ( But as a side note I have found that the Burmese students have a far greater comprehension of English)

Remember how the system wakes up when placed into the international limelight? Aviation, fishing, immigrants/refugees...

Should the World be told, Thai Education runs on a 'no-fail' policy...

Yes, and pointing out at the same time that the no fail failures are allowed to make / repair cars , build motorways and bridges, service aviation, and possibly in the near future will also be allowed to build and be required to service high speed rail networks too. Scary isn't it ?

  11. “The students nowadays fail because they just don't give a shit about studying and reading and they know that if most of the class fail, the whole class will still pass to the next course and finally graduate. Why? Coz you can't fail students in this country and make them repeat classes,” Wright said in the post.

The problem of the Thai education system in a nutshell.

"That's it in a nut shell!" I was going to say that! It's bloody ridiculous and reflects poorly on the country as a whole.

They 'couldn't give a shit' often translates to:

They turn up late, often very late for class, often miss all morning of a full day classes or all afternoon. Excuses like 'had to go with my sister to pick up her new car' and even lamer excuses.

Plus the lecturer has to keep telling many again and again to stop talking and listen.

Plus many lecturers now stop and approach one of the talkers and say 'what did I just say?' The response is 'I don't know'. Often with arrogance.

Cheating in exams still abounds even though if caught they are removed from the room with an automatic F (which at my university is changed to I (Incomplete) and they can sit again. I refuse to conduct an extra exam for these students, many lecturers do the same.)

Plus continuous talking or texting on their mobile phone. I now go through the ritual at the start of every class:

    - Up to 5 minutes late you can join the class, over 5 minutes late cannot enter the room. Under 80% overall attendance cannot sit for exams.

    - Tell the whole class to turn their mobiles completely off and put their phone on the desk in front of them and phone cannot be touched. Phones that ring I confiscate, and they get it back at the end of the week. Many lecturers are doing the same thing.

And we still have students who try to demand they should be allowed to join lectures conducted in English because they got A or B for grammar at high school but their conversation / comprehension skills are zero.

Pretty much sounds the same as the Uni I am working in .

  12. They served alcohol in the police car? OMG!!

he was in the back of the car , probably had the booze on him already in his robes or bag , there was no need to search a monk you offer a lift to, when observed to be drinking they did something about it.

How many have you had before you made this stupid thoughtless irrelevant reply to this post, in the usual TVN style that yourself and many others on here seem to have, apart from no other reason but just post in order to just be able to say something, regardless of its relevance ????

  13. As many are commenting on the loss of wheel nuts as a result of tyres being shot out, have you thought that maybe he may have hit a kerb after the tyre was blown??

Secondly, why did the BIB need to shoot out the tyre anyway, considering he had already hit a kerb and lost one tyre. would he have been that difficult to catch in reality, only riding on 3 wheels, or was it a case of 3 wheels on my wagon and I'm still rolling along ........https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vLhcg_FU9g

  14. You forgot to mention that they would rather piss up against a coconut tree than to walk 10 meters to a toilet !

From what pathetic cultural test tube did you arise where men would think to walk 10 meters to some smelly loo rather than stand behind a convenient tree for a piss?

The tree isnt necessary from what I see by me, just whip it out and anyplace will do even seen it at gas stations right next to the bog..............funny never see the women do it though?

Well actually , I saw a woman recently walking along a main road , who just stopped, pulled up her dress ( no Knickers) and just squatted there and then , luckily I did not see if she did number 1 or 2 , as I was driving by. I think she was actually a bit Maow or Simple looking at her manner etc

  15. Funny thing is they actually believe their own BS cheesy.gif

Actually they don't but they do believe that if they say it with a serious face to anyone who is thai, the Thai is obliged to pretend that they believe every word......especially if they are socially inferior...

yes indeed , because they want to spread happiness across the land. KHAOW JAI MAI?
