  1. How do we know that it was TNT ?? Could it be because a Thai BIB official said it was, less than three hours after the incident ?

Identifying the materials used in an explosion takes concentrated sample gathering and recording and analyses, before any such determination can be made , not that this point is really relevant, as a bomb is a bomb regardless of materials used, to cowardly blow up innocent people.

But Thai police are incredible, as we all know

  2. Isnt it strange though that this CCTV footage probably identifies a murderer, (and everyone is ready to assume that this guy is the culprit, which looking at it, he more than likely is to be honest), but in the Koh Tao case, where video evidence shows a certain someone near the scene and sometimes also in very suspicious circumstances, that the evidence is ignored ????

Obviously this b*st*rd in this video needs to be caught too, but how fast they have found and identified this suspect, shows that things could also have moved much faster in the Koh Tao case.

But hey, that was just a couple of farang kids wasn't it ??? with someone powerful refusing to be properly questioned or DNA tested.

This time many Thais have been maimed and killed. Sorry to be so cynical, but....!!!!!!!

RIP and speedy, successful recoveries to all who have been hurt or otherwise involved in this case.

  3. Articulated trucks do not just jack knife for no reason!

I think he probably neglected to say that he maybe braked very hard whilst traveling to fast in the adverse conditions.

It is also quite scary to think of incidents like this relatively small scale accident probably caused by unqualified drivers, when one looks at what has just happened in China. If what happened in China on a relatively small industrial area, where to happen in Mapthaput, it would be Goodbye Rayong !!!

]pics from about a year ago at IRPC on outskirts of Rayong.

Do you feel the worry when you look at the employees who build and run such plants as those in Mapthaput and other areas on the Eastern Seaboard industrial estates, and then think about what would happen if they should ever have a nuclear power industry here?????

Let us all pray, that the authorities will think hard about what has happened in China and start to take control of industrial hazards, instead of brown envelopes under the tables of power, and not waste time issuing fines and penalties for trivialities such as foam clockwork keys fixed to little cars etc etc

  4. No coal fired power plant should be allowed to

Operate unless fitted with scrubbers as ha been

The case on the West for the past 30years..."For

The safety of the Thai People and environment

    Get with the program"!!!

Power stations in NSW and Queensland are not fitted with scrubbers for very logical reasons which apply equally well for Thailand. The overwhelming major reason is that Oz anthracite is very low Sulphur content, and it's likely that will be Thailand's source. Secondly there is no huge concentration of coal-fired stations as there is in Europe. And the most obvious is that the very low level of emissions will not blow over somebody's farmland, but fall into the vast Pacific.

Personally I would have thought that logistically and economically, Chinese coal would be the first option for Thailand to import from, maybe another reason for the intended rail infrastructure proposals??

Additionally, Chinese coal is renowned as being a highly dirty coal , full of Sulphurs etc etc .

Bring back Welsh anthracite type coal and the problems are greatly reduced. Obviously the best is Welsh but again too expensive to import , and would also require a regeneration of the Welsh / UK mining industry, which will never happen, sadly.

China imports coal. Has been stated that coal will be sourced from Oz (excellent quality low S anthracite), Indonesia or Africa.

    I stand corrected.

I knew China was a high producer of coal, but was unaware that most of it is almost exclusively for its own market consumption, with marginal amounts being exported, which also now have dwindled to zero being exported in 2014.

My statement was based upon that I seem to remember there being a lot of debate in the UK some 15- 20 years ago about using dirty quality Chinese coal in lieu of the virtual loss of the UK Coal mining industry and the cleaner anthracite it produced.

  6. It would seem unlikely, as the rubber tires would not provide a path to earth.

Crashed after a lightning strike nearby maybe?

If everything is wet then water will conduct electricity to earth, even more so than if dry, don't they teach anything worthwhile in schools these days , in order to stop people doing stupid things , like riding a bike in the rain . ???

But I understand your ignorance, because , yes if they were in a car they would have the effect of the Faraday Cage principle, where the electricity would dissapate throughout the whole body of the car, but even then, that is still no 100% guarantee as recent videos circulating on the internet demonstrated .

  7. Thai Instructor to foreign teachers:

"Some of you believe that, like in your own countries, it is permissible to fail a student. I am here to tell you that is blatantly wrong!

"Failing a student would cause severe loss of face. Not only to the student, but to their parents as well. This could lead to serious depression, suicide, and a raging temper which could result in mass murder. Therefore, for the sake of our country's health, and all important image, you are never allowed to fail a student. Ok,seminar over."

It's nothing to do with causing the students to lose face, if it were then the humiliating punishments they dish out would be stopped. It's about the school director losing face for having a less than 100% success rate.

Oh Yeah , and without the 100% success rate there are less students willing to attend a school where they may fail, and therefore less money going into the coffers of the directors and their cohorts .

  8. I am swedish, and I wonder.... where are all the swedes? Ahaaaa about 15.000 of these aledged 20.000 is just living here periodicly like 3-6 months a year......

I read the swedish gouverments own statistics and that say that only about 1.000 is registred here in Thailand as living here full time... TGhe rest of these people is like I wrote probably peoply activly living in Swerden, registred there and only coming here for a short period of time each year.... That would probably make it up to 20.000 people....

    Thats my thoughts anyhow!!

    Glegolo

Most are here in Rayong I think Glegolo

  9. I would love to know how they got to hear about this course in the first place.

Yes, as a teacher it is also so much more useful to speak the native lingo despite what companies offering TEFL courses tell prospective students who want to teach in a foreign country, maybe especially true in Thailand where the learning ability, intentions and skills are so low.

However there is also a lot to be said for the kids who do show determination to learn and do so enthusiastically. One may say only the rich kids whose parents send them to extra classes can achieve this, but my missus has learnt, and she ain't from a wealthy or bar girl background either.

Basically , I guess you cannot lead a horse to water and make it drink, I guess.

  10. So he will stay in Thailand to be with his daughter who is so special etc etc , even if he loses his job blah de blah... what about the son he would be leaving behind in Spain if he did that.... is he less important????

Why did nt they go to India again , where they obviously had had no previous problems ??

Maybe they are trying to put a globally collected family of kids together , as do The Pitt family. OOOh!!!! lets have one of each colour.

  11. Maybe the US Gov't should also look at the penalties which maybe handed out to said and recently detained perpetrators of such crimes by Thai courts.

What penalties? I am unaware of any given other than movements to inactive posts and small monetary fees. Enlighten me

I don't believe anybody has been convicted yet, just arrested and in jail. Money has been confiscated. But this is only the tip of the iceberg, as everybody knows.

Where did I suggest they had been convicted, but yes you are correct , it is the tip of the iceberg.

'penalties which maybe handed out to said and recently detained perpetrators"

Like I said guys," lets see what penalties MAYBE handed out to recently DETAINED perpetrators...".

  13. After seeing the Thai emergency services in action at a RTA, I'm really surprised he managed to survive those injuries.

Yes, the way RTA staff or members of the public just move people around with what could be very dangerous injuries is staggeringly unbelievable and also just as horrifying as the accident itself.

A major reason any parent should make sure their kids have adequate accident and medical cover before visiting the LOS (Land of Scrapes).

When my kids visited recently and hired bikes on one of the islands I also hired a bike and insisted I lead them around for at least a few hours and show them some of the hazards they may encounter on the roads.

I also made sure they took out adequate cover for medical expenses before they left the UK.

  14. "Sex capital of Asia"? Never going to happen.

Can't see Thailand relinquishing the title of Sex "hub" of SE Asia, can you?

Thailand wants and insists on being the HUB of everything in the Universe and even this little seedy claim would not be let go of lightly, especially as tourist numbers would drop dramatically lower , inspite of what the Gov't wants us to believe to the contrary.

  15. I agree that the Thai economy has the jitters.

Some major players are relocating to other Asian countries.

Add excessive condo developments & it is not looking good.

Yep. Samsung , Korat recently closed down factory, relocating somewhere else in ASEAN, 1400 jobs gone and there will be and others already doing the same...

Farang people in locally based Gas n Oil industries located in and around the Eastern seaboard (Hub of all ASEAN Industries) in Thailand already reporting a massive turndown of investment and slowdown of work in this area.

  16. How on earth will they find her with that blur all over her face ?

If she is a real woman and not a Katoy, she would have more than blur over her face if I had given her a lift.

Anymore pics , how come nobody ( the person who took the pic , did not stop? maybe she had been through a bad time and been dumped on the side of the road and needed help????.

This is my better side coming through now!!

Ok seen the more pics in the OP on Coconuts , still not convinced it is not a Katoy though and yes maybe/probably Maow maak.( whichever)

  17. I think it was in Ubon or near there , near a bridge crossing the Moon River on a big crossroads or roundabout, that I saw 4 7/11s within 200mtrs of each other, o each of the 4 roads leading off the junction ???

Actually , where I now live on the outskirts of rayong , we have 2 7/11, a Tesco Lotus and a family mart and other privately run minimarts within a 100 metre stretch of road.

If I had invested in a 7/11 business , I would be livid.

  18. To those spouting that it is illegal to undertake. Are you quoting the official western highway codes or the official Thai highway code, because, if it is the Thai official highway code, I would love to see a copy of this, please, go on show me where it says in the Thai highway code that it is illegal.

On the other side of the coin, I see truck drivers Suddenly Pull Out with no indicators after tailgating other trucks in front of them, and yes it can take a short lifetime for them to complete an overtaking manouvre at the best of times let alone on a gradient. yes many with more knowledge on driving techniques are correct that the outside lane on a two lane highway is for use by both cars vans and trucks but I often see trucks in the outside lanes on the motorways here too.

The truck driver did not have to brake, he could have just taken his foot off the throttle for a second or two also, without losing too much momentum.

Basically both have too much face to lose, in the daily competition known as driving in Thailand, and it does need more control and education, rather than relying on these people to learn from the daily incidents they must regularly see in their chosen careers on the roads or in the daily media.

Yes the police could also be seen to be more pro active in many of these cases, but hey, maybe they too try to minimize their on road time too, as we all know, Thai roads are dangerous places!!! Don't we ????
