  1. My experience with these cables is similar. The 100-150 Baht cables are generally not very durable and normally the Micro USB end fails. I have had better success with cables around the 300 baht level that seem to last a lot longer. If you use these cables ever day for charging and data transfer then be prepared to replace them when they fail and it worth having a spare already for when they do fail.

  2. Do you have the google account setup on your phone with the all option for Contacts ticked it be in settings/ accounts/google/ sync contacts. You can have it sync on regular basis like 1 hour or manually sync when you want to update. At least that what I have on my Samsung Galaxy 3 most android phones i see are very similar.

  3. Just go to the Labour Department office, with some one that speaks Thai that can translate well for you. Take all your documentation, one thing that is done very well here in Thailand is to protect employees from unscrupulous employers. In 99.9% of cases the employee will win the case especially if they are manipulating the situation as after your worked for one year they have to pay you 3 months termination payment.

  4. The only comment I add to what lomatopo has said is I have noticed that if your in a area where the 2100Mhz coverage (850/900Mhz also for that matter) is poor then the phone works harder by boosting its Power output to transmit data back to the nearest basestation. I seen this effect mainly in shopping centres and food courts also where there are lot people trying to use the same basestation. Around the Victory Monument area I have also seen very poor coverage on 3G but I think this is fixed now. So your problem may be related to poor 2100Mhz coverage by AIS where your spend most of your time. I am also on AIS 3G 21000 and don't have this generally but still see it in a couple spots we go to around Bangkok.

  5. Just an additional issue to take into consideration if you or your wife watch Thai TV (Thai Soaps maybe!!) via free to air TV then the new TVs with built in digital tuners are just starting to appear in store here. I saw one in Tesco Lotus a couple weeks ago and by end this year I would expect to see them on most TVs sold here in Thailand. It maybe worth either waiting or getting a bargain now as I think they are madly trying to sell their stock before this happens. With the current TV you will need an external Set-top box to view this digital channels.

  6. I been working in Thailand for 2.5 years was given notice of retirement from my job for 30 Sept. I am 61 and want to stay here. I am still hoping to find a new job in Bangkok (I am Senior IT Executive) but know it could be difficult. I am not married to my Thai girlfriend, we been together for 4 years. I am looking at a retirement Visa. Do I need to go to Laos or Singapore to do this or can I do it in Thailand because I am retiring here? I do have the 800,000THB in the Thai bank seasoned for 3 month already. Or is a Ed Visa\Student Visa a better option. I have been attending Thai school at AUA every Saturday whilst I have been working so I could easily just do the 20 hours a week for full time for a while but not for ever. I understand I will need to go to Laos to do the Student Visa. What are my best options please? Are there any other?

  7. I would go the 3G modem or Wi-Fi even if it not the final answer you can at least get on the internet again. Do a scan with the Wi-Fi on you computer or Mobile and see if there any strong Wi-Fi Signals around like AIS or True or even a free Wi-Fi signal.

Second option get a 3G USB modem or a 3G external modem and Sim card from one of the 3G internet providers. If you got a good good signal strength the 3G Usb modems work fine. I presume you got a 3G phone of some sort what sort of signal strength do you have with your current Carrier? if it not great see if a friend on another carrier can come over see if the carrier got stronger signal.

  8. As other have said this could be because there there are no vacant ADSL ports on DMUX which is the connect point at the Telephone exchange or Head office if your American you need to connect to to get internet. Other possibility is no free copper phone lines in your area to get back to the exchange. I would try 3BB first and then TOT and see what they say, to see if you get a same story or maybe your in luck with one of them.

  9. I think if you can remain a True customer in some way i.e ADSL, Truevision via Sat, (Most condos have common Paytv distribution systems) then True should look after you (interested in you posting the result once you get this sorted out but maybe I am being too logical. But the issue is what deal has your new Condo done with whom. When I moved into my condo I wanted someone other than True for internet. Sorry can only be True we have done a exclusive deal with them.

  10. There are number of FX companies that offer better rates than the Banks for transfers into Thailand. Have look at the the web sites for www. fxcompared.com, TorFX, UK Forex, Easy FX, World First, Currencies Direct, The FX firm, Prime FX, etc You need to register with one or two of them them and get authorized because of the Anti money laundering regulation worldwide but once set up will you get better rate than the banks but who gives the best rate will vary by amount you are transferring and their rate on the day it is very dynamic business.

  11. You line Id is most likely your phone number with theletter l on the end like 026773xxxl. None of the ISP ADSL or cable providers have monthly limits I believe here but they do seem to throttle download torrents as certain time like weekends. When you say it a bit slow be aware it most likely the connection out Thailand that is creating the slowness not the raw speed of your ADSL. Test this by going to site hosted locally. VPN's will then slow this more but there many around. I am more fan of XBMC and Nav-x for viewing TV not sure if you can install this on your Smart TV or you need a separate Android TV box i.e like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/400492685465?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

    Do some research.

  12. Try Vibre or Tango for both iphone and Andriod phones.

I used Skype for 2 years calling Thailand from Australia results can be excellent or very bad sometimes you have to call 5+ times just get through, Often it is ringing your end but not at the other end.

If both parties are on the wired internet connection or Wi-Fii it is normally ok but if your trying to call her mobile then can be very frustrating.

  13. I use www.mynetfone.com.au . They will have good plan for you. Excellent quality very reliable as long as your internet connetions is good here.

Thanks for that. So are you using mynetfone from Thailand calling into Australia?

Yes using it all the time but not 100 calls a day! I was using it in Australia before I came here. If you calling landlines not mobiles it AUD$0.10 per call untimed any where in AU but as you will see some calls are bundled into the various plans, you can also have a number in say Sydney or Melbourne which people can call you back on which is I think included in the some plans.
