  1. Possible a Radar installation or high powered Radio transmitter. Are you near the sea (a ships radar) or from over the boarder other military activity in Laos, Cambodia Burma? Over the horizon radar can have effects a very longway from the source. Another thought is a Radio frequency forming of plastic in a factory manufacturing some product. It could even be a fault electrical appliance in your own house. A motor or microwave oven, fluroesent light etc or even just the switched mode power supply in your PC playing up. Lots and lots of possibilities!! have you tried moving around the house when it happens does it decrease if you move?

  2. There are many Shops at Pantip plaza (Pantip Plaza is an indoor IT shopping mall located on New Phetchaburi Road in Ratchathewi district, Bangkok) Short walk from Ratchathewi BTS, that have a selection of Aircards also Fortune Town IT Mall at Rama 9 next to MRT Rama 9. As far as I am aware its not legal to sell anything that is locked in Thailand. Make sure you purchase a aircard that does 850, 900 and 2100 as some only do 850 or 900 but not both. I found this table of Frequencies used by country for 3G services you can pick the countiries you need from this: http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html not sure it 100% accurate is it not correct for thailand (DTAC and True 850, AIS 900 is correct).

  3. I am not 100% convinced Slim drivers is always 100% good as it can give you the wrong drivers sometimes. I would check the drivers for graphics directly from the manufactures web site, I have had some issue with this on Slim driver before I would also use the mother board/laptop manufactures web site for all it drivers. Is it possible things went wrong after you used Slim driver to update the drives?

  4. Yes there are studios Condo for 9-12K (generally about 30SqM) they will not be very upmarket for that price but still comfortable and have western bathrooms and Air Con. I do not know about in the Sukhumvit area as this covers a large area but most likely. It a renters market in Bangkok so you just need to find a landlord who will take month by month or 3 months at a time. Many landlords would rather leave their condos empty than compromise on rent or lease but if you look you find a landlord who will be ok with this I sure. They will most likely still make you pay a bond of 2-3 months. You don't say how long you staying or why you want to do this. You should also look at a room in guest house which also be low cost. I rented a Studio in Sathorn on Thannon Narathaiwat near Macro Super Market (Lumpini Place Condo) which was 9000THB a month. It was close to BRT two stops to BTS Chong Nosi but I did have to sign a12 month lease. What I think you also find is these low cost places are not advertised much on the internet so you have walk around and if your Thai is not great you need a Thai to help you ask about them. These two web sites www.TeePak.com and www.prakard.com do have low end condos but mostly in Thai.

I use Google Chrome browser and have it set to auto translate Thai to English so I can look these sorts of web site.

  5. I think you need to reconsider Kasikorn and SMS confirmation (it a security feature that well worth having). You only need a cheap 500THB phone and a 12call SIM with 100THB credit or a very low cost monthly plan. You don't need to use for anything else. Is your issue that you live outside phone reception range? You appear to have internet access! Maybe you can explain the phone issue?

I am using Kasikorn you only use the SMS code for online transaction not when you use the card OS travel etc and I still use a separate K-Bank card for withdrawals as they don't see able to link to Credit card for withdrawals unlike other countries.

Do not go to Bangkok Bank there a pain to deal with SCB would be a next choice and TMB if your speak Thai well.

  6. Sorry I thought you were a newbe yes Pantip easy too if you don't mind the walk i do it all the time. I just find Fortune IT Mall even easier and less fakes. There no real electronic IT shops in the Silom Area that i know of, used to be Power Buy and a few stalls in Central Silom but that's closed for renovations at the moment.

  7. The 4 pumps pump the water via the tunnel into the river that how it works. Yes they need many more tunnels like this. And yes they need to improve the drainage that gets the water to the tunnels and clear the rubbish and obstructions everywhere. But at the end day when it rains as hard as it has recently for an hour or two it still going to take some time to clear. It is the same problem in any country especially in the tropics in the wet season. Simple fluid dynamics, it not possible to change the fact that Bangkok is 0.5 - 2m above sea level so pumping assistance is essential and with all the buildings and development the runoff is vastly increased, better get building those tunnels quickly as global warming increases.

  8. Streaming anything from outside Thailand is not a certainty because of the variability of Bandwidth in and out of Thailand. I would go for the Basic 590 THB TOT or 599 THB True ADSL plan 8Mbps and see how you go. You need a 107THB per month phone line as well. There is also the 3BB Service Provider for which you do not need a phone line I believe which is I think 10Mbps, I not used 3bb but one of my Thai technical staff has it and says it is good also. You see various comments in this forum about how increasing bandwidth here does not always improve things for streaming. The key issue with ADSL here seems to be the quality of the copper line in your area between you and the exchange. If it good you get good service if bad you have issues old area old copper can be bad. Good luck.

I stream every F1 motor race and sometimes it is fantastic and other times totally bad. Variable from week to week. Have look in this forum for various services people are using to stream TV etc. you will get some ideas about what is good or bad. Have look at this one http://tunlr.net/ it free.

Unbock-us (unblock-us.com) and Unotelly (http://www.unotelly.com) are two services for watching streaming TV/media. Netflix Hulu etc. I have not used either but I see reports of Expats using them here. Both are US$4.95 but you can sign up for free for a while to test it and the basic unotelly service is always free.

  9. Maybe buy cheap 7' tablet (android) (3000- 5000THB) (from Pantip) install Tune-in Radio pro app (30THB) and plug headphones outlet into your home Stereo with cable.

Leave the tablet on mains power tablet and Wi-Fi on. Not exactly what you want but but I not seen any internet radios here at all or maybe you have order online from US, Hong Kong or where ever you can find them on line

  10. I think this is a long term issue for 3 + year I used Skype to Thai Mobiles. Before came to work here full time it would often take me 4- 8 calls before I had a twoway audio between my Thai GF and myself. Somethings I can heard her or the other way around. Last Christmas I was in Australia for 10 days still same issue. But I have not experience same issue calling Mobiles in other countries.

  11. Many condo have a True or alternative Satellite system installed already for distribution to each Condo in the building. I my case I could get True on the various plans or cheaper alternative called STV which is only 300THB per month but no EPL only MU and European football. So see if you Condo has this already. If your in new condo block it most likely going to have rules about dish installation, if it older and there are dishes every where then you most likely in luck. The other issues is do you have a clear view to the sky of the Thaicom 5 Satellite from your condo so you can install a dish if allowed? Have a look at which way all the red dishes are pointing. There will be a solution just ask around.
