  1. Not sure what your circumstances are but if your retired or can just make the time then why not move here and rent a low cost Studio for up to 1 year for less than 10,000 Baht per month and really get a feel for what's around and prices areas etc. You need to get a feel for areas to live and facilities etc. I am sure there are gems here in what is a over priced market. I think it is heading for a big correction with less than 2 years or so. For the money your talking about you get a one room Studio as far as I can see.

  2. You need to be careful with the laptops screen resolution by setting the output to no more than 1920x1080 as above that most TV will not sync up correctly and you get no video. If you have proved your set up in the US first then I see no reason they won't let you try before you buy there are normally many staff hanging around in most stores that sell TV's any way so you get lot of assistance. Language will be your only issue as most don't speak much English hows you Thai.

I run a free program on my PC/Laptops called Media Portal http://www.team-mediaportal.com/. that organizes all my TV shows and movies etc if you interested.

  3. I am assuming the Videos are .avi, mp4 or wmv or similar formats that you have downloaded so no I am sure PAL/NTSC has any thing to do with it as PAL/NTSC is to do with the way the TV signal is broadcast.number lines and frame rates. This was an issue with VHS Video Recorders. Most TV have VGA and HDMI. I use HDMI to my TV from my laptop all the time no issues.

  4. If you can call from a PC/laptop in an office using a Softphone app or Smart phone/iPad then an account with a VOIP provider in AU like www.mynetfone.com.au on monthly plan maybe worth considering so your effectively calling from within Australia not internationally, compare this with the Skype rates and other ways of calling like 006 009 etc will depend on your average monthly minutes which is best option.

  5. From your home country you can apply for Non B for 12 months to set up a Company. One of the Legal firms like Sunbelt Legal who are a Thaivisa Sponsor can provide help to you with the paper work required but you have to apply from your home country i believe. Not sure how this will work if you done this a couple of times already for 2x3 Months as it one time only thing us far as I understand it.

  6. I installed chrome on dozens of PCs/laptops and I never see this issue. What resolution is you PC running at? Maybe it is too low for Chrome. I googled this but I cannot find a minimum resolution for Chrome. What happens if you do up the resolution of you PC and then try an installation of Chrome?

  7. I had a staff member at work who had 2 credit cards maxed out and could not pay the court ordered that he 30% of his salary is taken by the company and sent directly to credit card provider to pay of one Credit card and then the next one once first is paid off. This was for debit of 300,000 Baht. Not sure if there is a better solution. But it hard to take a 30% pay cut if you earn little to start with.

  8. I normally would say buy a cheap laser like Samsung (3000Baht+) or similar, but I have currently an Epson with external tanks and it never seems to dry up and has worked well here in BKK for 3 years and it prints copies and scans in colour. I have spent 1000Baht in ink all colours in 3 years and have enough ink for 3 more years still in the bottles. This has changed by views on this subject.

  9. There does seem to be some speed limiting going on at times but as others have said its often the international connection that is the issue not the domestic internet in Thailand. If you test to a local site and it quick and then to a site OS you often see where the problem is on a particular day. The carriers in Thailand are having as much difficulty keeping up with demand for data usage both mobile and stationary as in the US, Australia or many other countries. The issues are not unique to Thailand but maybe here we starting from a lower base. I have True ADSL at Home, TOT at the office and AIS on the smart phone, they all seem to have good days and some very bad days.

  10. Not sure where your located but highly recommend you wander around Pantip IT Plazza or Fortune IT Mall of Big C, Lotus Tesco or Power Buy if neither of the first two are handy, if your in Bangkok or similar in other cities. Just to get a feel of what is around and prices and what you think might be good for your children. For 20k you can get a resonantly good laptop these days and there certainly lower cost models around. Once you have a short list you will have more chance of getting advise on what is better than one another. But it just like buying a car there no completely right or wrong answer and we all have our likes and dislikes.

  11. Another couple of hints try using some Wi-Fi Survey site survey software (on Android Play store or Apple Apps store or for PC Google this) to search for what are the Wi-Fi channels least used and lock your Wi-Fi to this channel least used channel. If you have the option to use 5.1GHz instead of 2.4 GHz try that as there is no one using this Wi-Fi frequency much. Often the settings on the Wi-Fi router are set for fastest speed not longest range if you can change the setting for longest range it can boost the signal. But agree an external Antenna at the PC/laptop end will be the place to start. You may get a boost from 3 higher gain antennas at the Wi-Fi router end. Is the 2 bar signal really a problem or are you getting lower connection speeds because the signal is weaker. If your connection is at maximum speed now then you not like to gain much. On 5.1 GHz I get about 240Mbps on 802.11N but you really only get about half this in through put.
