  1. I am on AIS 3G and its previous incarnations. The data used counted on my Samsung phone and the billing system of AIS agree within a few kb. I am on 2Gb monthly plan and struggle to used much over 1GB a month and have a lot programs installed but I do turn Wi-Fi on when at home at night. I am based in Bangkok. Based on what seen with my partner and her daughter viewing online videos is the biggest user of Data plus automatic syncing of email, dropbox etc or other such services. That not to say DTAC and TRUE do not have a major problem with their data billing systems as carriers in other countries certainly have had some very big issues like double bill etc.

  2. The 3TB Western Digital and Seagate Extenal harddrives (USB 3) are now selling for 3890THB. I Purchased one at Fortune IT (Rama 9) last Sunday. If you have desktop computer it is better to install a new 3TB Harddrive in the PC but for simplicity an external drive is the way to go. Just plug it in format the dive and your operational no full covers of the PC plugging in cables etc.

  3. I found this on the Bangkok bank site:

    4. What information do I need to send money to an overseas bank?
Bangkok Bank will need the following details:

    - The recipient’s account name and number
    - The currency and amount of money
    - The name and address of the recipient bank
    - The SWIFT code of the recipient bank (if available)
    - The purpose of the transfer

If you are transferring funds to a bank account in Europe, you should provide an IBAN (International Bank Account Number) in your payment instruction.

    5. Is there a limit to the amount I can transfer?
The maximum amount you can transfer out of Thailand is determined by the Bank of Thailand, depending on the source of funds and/or the purpose of payment, including supporting documents. For example, if you are a foreigner repatriating proceeds from the sale of a condominium, then you would need to submit the purchase and sales contract and ownership title documents. In this case, the maximum transfer amount would be the selling price for the condominium.

Regardless of how much is transferred, the Bank of Thailand requires senders to specify in their payment instruction the purpose of the payment (Thai residents) or the source of the income (for foreigners), as well as present any supporting documents.

    Reason for Transfer

    Supporting Documents

Repatriating income (Foreigner) Letter from your employer stating your income Paying for goods or services Invoice Paying for educational expense

A letter from the college or school stating tuition fees; or Invoice from the school

  4. I think that you may end up paying for the free Router/Wifi router they if they gave you one when you had the service installed and used it for less than 12 Months. Talking with some of my Thai staff they say if the same provider cannot provide the service in your new location you will not get any penalty just pay to end of the current bill month. Good luck if that really the case.

  5. Not sure what your circumstances are but if your retired or can just make the time then why not move here and rent a low cost Studio for up to 1 year for less than 10,000 Baht per month and really get a feel for what's around and prices areas etc. You need to get a feel for areas to live and facilities etc. I am sure there are gems here in what is a over priced market. I think it is heading for a big correction with less than 2 years or so. For the money your talking about you get a one room Studio as far as I can see.

  6. You need to be careful with the laptops screen resolution by setting the output to no more than 1920x1080 as above that most TV will not sync up correctly and you get no video. If you have proved your set up in the US first then I see no reason they won't let you try before you buy there are normally many staff hanging around in most stores that sell TV's any way so you get lot of assistance. Language will be your only issue as most don't speak much English hows you Thai.

I run a free program on my PC/Laptops called Media Portal http://www.team-mediaportal.com/. that organizes all my TV shows and movies etc if you interested.

  7. I am assuming the Videos are .avi, mp4 or wmv or similar formats that you have downloaded so no I am sure PAL/NTSC has any thing to do with it as PAL/NTSC is to do with the way the TV signal is broadcast.number lines and frame rates. This was an issue with VHS Video Recorders. Most TV have VGA and HDMI. I use HDMI to my TV from my laptop all the time no issues.

  8. If you can call from a PC/laptop in an office using a Softphone app or Smart phone/iPad then an account with a VOIP provider in AU like www.mynetfone.com.au on monthly plan maybe worth considering so your effectively calling from within Australia not internationally, compare this with the Skype rates and other ways of calling like 006 009 etc will depend on your average monthly minutes which is best option.

  9. From your home country you can apply for Non B for 12 months to set up a Company. One of the Legal firms like Sunbelt Legal who are a Thaivisa Sponsor can provide help to you with the paper work required but you have to apply from your home country i believe. Not sure how this will work if you done this a couple of times already for 2x3 Months as it one time only thing us far as I understand it.

  10. I installed chrome on dozens of PCs/laptops and I never see this issue. What resolution is you PC running at? Maybe it is too low for Chrome. I googled this but I cannot find a minimum resolution for Chrome. What happens if you do up the resolution of you PC and then try an installation of Chrome?

  11. I had a staff member at work who had 2 credit cards maxed out and could not pay the court ordered that he 30% of his salary is taken by the company and sent directly to credit card provider to pay of one Credit card and then the next one once first is paid off. This was for debit of 300,000 Baht. Not sure if there is a better solution. But it hard to take a 30% pay cut if you earn little to start with.

  12. I normally would say buy a cheap laser like Samsung (3000Baht+) or similar, but I have currently an Epson with external tanks and it never seems to dry up and has worked well here in BKK for 3 years and it prints copies and scans in colour. I have spent 1000Baht in ink all colours in 3 years and have enough ink for 3 more years still in the bottles. This has changed by views on this subject.
