Wow you have no Black transvestite story?
I have lived in BKK for 2 to 6 months for the last 17 years and feel extremely safe. No horror stories at all. Maybe Satorn where I lived for 10 years and more recently Rachatewi are safe zones. What a story teller.
Ok...I'm intrigued...You actually have some "Black transvestite" experiences that are significant enough that you feel the necessity to point that out? Please share your "Black transvestite" stories with us; unless it's too personal or vial.
I'm not being condescending; I mean it in a good way.

No. I've done it many times. I just walk by.
Exactly...unless you're an A$$hole looking for trouble you're not likely to find any. On the other hand, you might meat a lady that catches your fancy (just make sure it is a LADY unless you're into that kinda thing).

Surveys subjective, ra ra ra !!! Try walking around at night in Mexico city not to mention the USA. I spent quite some time in Los Angeles way back in the 90’s and even then it was not smart to leave the hotel at night on foot if you wanted to come back.
Have you ever walk the strip on Sukumvit after midnight? Did you ever feel fearful of your life while doing it?

I think that is BULL$HITE. I recently repatriated to my home country and lived in two different cities since coming back. Both cities which have a significantly lower population than Bangkok are far more dangerous. In the first city I was robbed for 80 dollars, and on another occasion had to run for my life when confronted by two strangers that meant me harm. In the second city I had my head smashed into a bar by someone I didn't even see coming at me, on another occasion was smashed in the head by some drunk by a table umbrella anchor (that really hurt and required stitched to my head; don't know who the person was), the swat police stormed the bar while 3 or 4 gang members fled in every direction. I've seen several situations where the bar came to a stand still because of violence. This seems to be the norm.`
I lived in Bangkok for 18 years and NOTHING like that ever happened to me. I rarely saw fights in bars and I could normally walk home without incident. The only problem I ever had was with the Katloey's that hassle you occasionally but I could usually handle it by ignoring them and keeping one hand on my wallet.
I would feel more safe walking down Sukumvit or Silom than any downtown street in my country.

I'm not sure about the Thai but in English the "yet" is redundant. Proper English would be "have you eaten." But in North American English there are many redundancies that can be attributed to Ebonics like "where're you at." Proper English would be "where are you", the AT is redundant because you ARE obviously where your are AT. Adding redundancies makes the language less efficient. I guess in Thai the rue-pow is necessary because it reduces it from the infinitive "to eat." My Thai is weak so I'm only speculating.
The English language is an evolving language but lately it seems to be evolving backwards. I'm not English but I agree with them (the true English speakers from England).

Yes, they now send plain clothes coppers on the beach to find people smoking.
But only on Koh samui, not on KPG, except during full moon.
They also road side urine tests on Koh samui, not KPG it seems.
That's really sad. Talk about killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. Samui and KPG have a universal reputation for the place to go to PAAAAAARRRRTAY. They are destroying it. I'm over it now being an old fogey but they had built a reputation that 'you haven't partied 'til you gone to Samui and KPG'. Why they would want to destroy that is beyond me. People (specifically younger people) all over the world have heard about Samui and KPG and think it would be great to try it at least once. That's Billions of dollars worth of revenue to maintain a dream that's really just a myth (I know I've been there). Rather than policing it they should turn into a Stoner Disney Land by enhancing it and making it MORE accessible. That's what I would do.

he will get a 2000 baht fine and be sent back home (maybe).
not a big problem, everybody smokes on islands, but you should not carry it anywhere, just have it on the beach is ok (and also buy it on the beach).
You have to be careful (now) even on the beach. When I first started going to Thailand in the 90's Lamai Beach used to have a pizza shop that sold MUSHROOM pizzas. If you think weed is bad, check out a beach full of people stoned on mushrooms. Yes...those were the good ol' days. The cops were so cool back in those days. They were more like motorcycle taxis. You'd just give 'em a beer share a joint and give him a big tip and they were your best friend for the rest of your stay. Things have changed for the worse. But I still remember those days.

Thanks Tim...Working on that right now.
I can't help but mention that the amount of dope smoking going on, on the Island of Samui is ASTRONOMICAL and you throw in the FULL MOON party on Koh Phangan; It's POT CENTRAL! While I'm not trying to encourage people to come to Samui to smoke pot, MILLIONS of people come every year to do just that.
The Thai authorities know this and generally turn a blind eye because they make millions of dollars every year because of this. Some how your friend or relative fell through the cracks. I wouldn't be to hard on him or call him stupid because while he's being milked for everything they can get out of him there are people walking by that very police station with a splif in their mouth without a care in the world.
They only hit people randomly to send a false image to the world that this type of behaviour is forbidden in the Land of Smiles. That's just BULLSHIT! Your friend was just an unlucky statistic. With that in mind, with the right lawyer or attitude your friend may walk out the front door with a splif in his mouth and the police will even light it for him.
From the time I spent in Samui, most of the cops smoke dope as well. It's not a big secret or anything. They are also connected with the people who sell dope. Every once in a while they'll set someone up. They know they have dope and will search until they find it. Then they go through the extortion routine that your friend is going through now. This same scenario has been repeated ad nauseum. They are underpaid (they have to pay for their own uniforms and guns) so they do this occasionally to pay the bills.

The thing I like about English is that it is an evolving language. The French, on the other hand, are so afraid that their language will be polluted that they try desperately to control it. Karaoke, Deja vous, Rendez vous are perfectly acceptable in the English language even though they are obviously NOT English. You've got to love it. On the other hand, English is probably the hardest language to learn and understand but the easiest to fake and be understood. eg: "I dindo nufins"

Nope, don't take drugs in a country that has a reputation for being hard on drugs - problem solved.
Back in the early 90's I remember me and a girl (of ill repute) getting a ride on a police motor bike from the 'Green Mango' to the 'Reggae Pub'. The three of us shared a large bottle of beer and a big joint for the whole ride. Those were the good ol' days. Now a days they will try to extort you for all they can get.
Getting legal assistance is probably the best bet just to get him out of that jurisdiction. They will intimidate him as much as possible to see how much money they can suck out of his relatives in his home country.

RIP to the victim.
An illustration of why "the driver fled the scene" is commonly seen here, regardless of if they're sober, drunk, whether it was a fatality or not.
I remember at work once discussing another accident with some of my Thai co-workers where "the driver fled the scene." I asked why do these people that cause accidents always flee the scene? They all just said something to the effect of "OH...he was just trying to save face." They all seemed to think it was a perfectly reasonable reaction to such a horrific event. Shocked by their attitude about losing or saving face I said "wouldn't it be better that they FACE up to the responsibility for what they have just done?" Judging from the blank stares the concept didn't seem to sink in. I suppose I'll never truly understand the whole 'FACE' thing with Asians.

Don't smile at random Thais and you won't notice a thing. I know I've been here too long. I just filter stuff out. Except when I can't when I had to confront those horrific ladyboys threatening to push me in traffic like the other night for not being interested.
In other words, negative local stuff that isn't directly threatening my life just doesn't rate to me as worth caring about. That's a LOT of filtering.
The VERY FIRST TIME I went to Pataya (and Thailand for that matter) I had only been there less than an hour with two friends. I separated from my friends for only about a minute, less than 50 feet away, to pick up some cigarettes. This being mid-afternoon in broad daylight, I was approached by 3 Ladyboys which I didn't even notice until one grabbed me by the nuts which got my attention immediately (as would anyone that values their reproductive organs). While I was preoccupied with rescuing my nuts the other two proceeded to take everything of value I had on me. I ended up standing in front of a convenience store holding my nuts and my back pocket (where my wallet was) while they fled with a digital camera and a $200 pair of sunglasses.
That incident occurred Sep. 11, 1990. I filed a report with the police but nothing ever came of it. As you can see this is not something new as that was 27 years ago. The difference I've noticed (from the numerous incidents reported on this site) is that they've become more violent. While I lost about $400 worth of merchandise at least I wasn't physically harmed; and I still have my nuts!

That's not true.
All faiths/sections of society have their hate riddled bigots who spread intolerance at every opportunity.
You might want to see what happens to non-Muslims that live in Muslim Majority area's: Here is an example of what happened to the Rakhine people that have been living in Burma for centuries but were out-populated by Muslim Rohingya's and suddenly one day there lives changed drastically for no apparent reason:

You mean like the Rohingya Terrorists with ties to Al Qaeda; just some good ol' boys out for fun and a little village burning in Myanmar with a long term plan of eventually taking over the country.
I should point out that these are real Rohingya terrorist that are financed by Bangladesh and supported by Al Qaeda.

You are proud that The Thai Navy is to force these people back out to sea, to face an almost inevitable death.
You are proud of Thailands existing record with these people?
There is a word for people like you. I'm not allowed to use it on here.
I'll give you a clue - it has four letters and is of Anglo Saxon origin...
I don't think the word "WISE" is forbidden on this site. I think it would be wise for these people to go to another Muslim country like Malaysia, Indonesia, or Bangladesh where they share the same beliefs and can integrate into the existing society. Why isn't the OIC out there helping these people? They have 57 member countries but NEVER EVER help their own.

In the Patpong area be very careful if you go to any of the bars on the second floor, the ones that are promoting sex shows. Lots of problems with overcharging.
He's right! Don't ever go upstairs in Patpong. 90% of the time you'll get ripped off and if you complain it can lead to violence or at very least grief.

"Aussie's normally like the Ladyboy Bars on Patpong, so take them there."
I lived in Bangkok for about 16 years and about 50% of my friends were Aussie. NONE of them frequented Ladyboy bars that I knew of. Maybe they were sneaking off and slumming in Ladyboy bars unbeknownst to me. If there are any Aussie's out there you might want jump in and clerify this new stereotype that you've just been labelled with.

Drink European whitebeer like Paulaner or Hoegaarden.
For Patong i can't advise you but be carefull in those shows while ordering drinks or girls sitting on your lap or so...They do the pingong/darts/rasorblade/cola bottle shows though....
That's pretty sad advice. You didn't include a sarc/ tag but I'm hoping you were just trying to be funny. If that's the case; yes it was pretty funny.
