  1. Whilst there are no doubt many violent characters in that lovely city, I do not buy the fact that he was just walking along, minding his own business, and suddenly gets attacked out of nowhere.

Unrelated: I think at age 54 it is time to hang up the wife-beater.

Well it's been happening in USA for some time now and is referred to as a gameblink.png . Let's hope the Thai teenagers don't get any ideasermm.gif

A bit different though; the "game" is to punch someone out cold with a single blow. This was obviously not the case here.

Nooooooo! The left wing media has already determined it's nothing but a myth. Don't believe your lying eyes. You gotta love the left wing media, they are relentless at lying. Even Pravda from the old USSR days must be must be impressed by the relentless pursuit to lie to the public by the left wing media. The reality is even the Russians knew that they were being lied to, and so do we!

  2. Thai's Tan incredibly easy and it lasts a long time. I remember I convinced my Thai girl friend to go swimming with me once at the beach after much resistance. She ended up getting a tan and for almost a year you could still see the lighter skin that was left by her bikini top. She was really annoyed every time she wore a dress or any top that exposed her shoulders because it looked like she had permanent bra straps.

  3. What Isaan needs desperately is EDUCATION in household and farm finance and budget.

Gamblers Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous are also desperately needed.

Gambling has always been a very strong Asian trait. I doubt if it would be easy to eliminate. Alcohol has always been a release from boredom which makes it equally hard to eliminate. I agree with you but I don't think it would be easy to change things when in that particular region living in an isolated area the only form of entertainment is agriculture.

  4. So at first look it seems Mukdahan is the winner.. however per capita Amnat Charoen clinches it !

Personally I always believed it was Yasothon..

    totster smile.png

Really? A majority of my family comes from Yasothon, and they seem like the happiest people alive !

I guess I'm fortunate to come from a good family and have the opportunity to grow up in Oz.

Exactly! It seems that happiness is now determined by how much money you have and how well educated you are. Is it really important to a person in Isan to know that Obamacare is destroying the middle class in America and with the Fed printing 70+ billion a month of American dollars that all the currencies in the the world will be devalued as long as the American dollar remains the international currency of trade? As long as they are growing rice and can sustain themselves they will be oblivious.

  5. Sounds like One Hot Movie!!

Okay, I'll shut up and go to bed.

I'm interested too! I like both Brosnan and Wilson and using Thailand as a background it could be and interesting movie. I'm surprised at how many people are highly critical of these two stars just because they're doing their job. They're actors, that's what they do. If you find them offensive just unplug your cable and never go to a movie again. I think they've both proved themselves to be good at what they do and their work has provided viewing pleasure for millions.

BANGKOK: -- Hollywood A-listers Owen Wilson and Pierce Brosnan were unharmed after a fire on the set of a film they are shooting in northern Thailand, a production company and police said Thursday.

Wilson, who starred in Midnight in Paris, and former James Bond Brosnan had just finished Wednesday's shoot for the action-thriller The Coup when the fire broke out in a three-storey shophouse being rented for the film in the town of Lampang.

"Neither Owen Wilson nor Pierce Brosnan or (co-star) Lake Bell were anywhere near the set when the fire broke out... it was after wrap so none of our actors were there," said Chris Lowenstein of production company Living Film, which is helping the shoot. [read more...]

Pierce...or...007 was probably carrying bodies and stuffed animals out of the fire while Owen was watching and saying "trippy man...this is just like the time when...OH wait...I was REALLY high at the time so that probably didn't really happen."

  7. How about a scene of an expat trying for hours to catch a taxi from Surasak to Saphan mai on the eve of the Army's crackdown on the Redbels. We can see his desperation in his sweat and fear in a sweltering concrete tropical jungle that is ruled by armed mobs. He struggles in vain and begs taxi after taxi (who are sympathetic to the rebels)but he is refused time and time again. At last a taxi agrees to take him to Victory Momuent (for an outrageous sum of money) where he thinks he can catch another taxi home. At Victory Monument he stops for a beer... and before the bottle is finished the staff are hurriedly closing the bar. He drinks up... and goes to the taxi queue... There, everyone is desperate and are jumping the queue in front of him... The citizens are frantic... At last it's his turn for a taxi... It pulls up and an elderly lady begins to exit... at that moment people run to get in the cab, but the elderly lady stops them and hold the door. He gets in and gives the driver instructions to take the tollway. As the cab moves slowly along its way to Din Daeng he hears shots fired. He looks up and sees troops firing down from the flyover into the streets...The bullets are flying from both sides. Bodies are being loaded into ambulances. He's just one thought amid the chaos... Will I get home? There ya go Owen... Reality.

Owen usually does comedies so I'm not sure if your screen play will clinch you a position in Hollywood. But keep up the good work; I admire you for giving it a shot.

  8. "It is thriller movie centering on an American family who moves to Southeast Asia and finds themselves entangled in a violent coup with merciless rebels attacking the city."

Been there, done that... got the T-shirt more than once...

I hear ya man...I was in Thailand for three coups; there would have been more but the traffic was so bad that they couldn't get the tanks to the parliament buildings.

  9. Anyone know if NBC Sports works. I want to see the Grey Cup (Canadian Football Championship game) on Nov 24 (Nov 25 here) but I can't check it right now as I am in a remote location with slower than dial-up speeds until the 21st.

Any advice would be very much appreciated as I have to make a decision to change some flights if I can't get this solved.

OH My God! A Rough Rider Fan!

  10. You're kidding, right? Average per capita income Thailand, less than US$6k. US, $50k. The US doesn't charge import taxes making all major items cheaper by far. Computers, cars, TV's, etc. US grows its own food making Western food far cheaper.

Wealthier? Which middle class Thai owns a home worth US$500k? (15 million baht.)

I just bought a new Honda CRV for 800,000 baht, (US$25,000.) It would be more like 2 million baht in Thailand. It's 4 wheel limited slip drive, sun roof - loaded. A middle class Thai can't afford that if only because of the taxes causing it to cost 2.5x as much.

Someone is dreaming if he thinks 3rd world Thais are anywhere near as wealthy as Westerners.

Thais don't pay taxes? Try buying a car or anything imported.

Comparing values in dollars is like comparing apples and pears.

What counts is the substance - a house that costs 500k in the USA would cost only about 150k-200k in Thailand.

Comparing houses in the USA to houses in Thailand is like comparing apples and pears.

Would the Thai home have central aircon (and heat in the US?) Would it be on a really good paved street with sidewalks, curbs and gutters with handicap ramps in the curbs? Would it have true sanitary sewer and safe water?

Would it have a readily available fire hydrant meeting standards for flow and pressure? Would it have smoke detectors and alarms throughout? Would the electricity be properly grounded? Would it have GFI plugs in the kitchen, bathrooms and laundry rooms, in the garage and all outside plugs?

Would it have a minimum of a two car garage with an automatic opener?

Would it and the infrastructure of the neighborhood meet all US codes?

    I don't think so.

You're correct in saying Thai homes would most likely not be up to US spec. but most new homes in Thailand are built of brick and concrete while the roofs are made from steel framing with ceramic shingles. I could be wrong but from my observation house fires are a rarity in Thailand. Because of the construction materials Thai houses are less prone to fire; that's pure speculation and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

You're right! Rather than comparing dollar for dollar it would be more appropriate to compare "Quality of Life". I believe a Thai can achieve a higher quality of life with less income than would be typical in a western society.

  12. There FLIGHT ATTENDANTS not stewardess.

Yes...and Mail Men are Person Persons. Welcome to the new world of PC.

Steward & Stewardess are no longer acceptable because sexual identity is passe? Now we can be what ever sex we decide to be regardless of what our genetic material defines us as. The progressives have done a great job of eliminating at least 6,000 years of recorded history. Surely there will be no unintended consequences as our societies travel through this experiment inflicted on entire societies. Anything goes now.
