  1. The serious nature of such an allegation is laughable at best.

When I imagine this man being faced by these boys, with their filthy little fingers pointing at him and the 1000 baht notes hanging out of their pockets... when I think of the police frowning at him with their dark pasts hanging over them like black clouds... and when I think of the shelter workers scowling at this man, with the sordid details of their nefarious mechanizations jingling in their pants pockets... I can only be truthful in saying that this is one imagination where the accused, if truly guilty, is not as guilty as the ones who created his ability to exist. They should all burn in Hell.

Now if the accused is in fact not guilty, then damn these people for their existence, and damn the man for being stupid enough to get caught up in their existence.

Any innocent foreigner who is stupid enough to walk right past all the warning signs before getting caught up in this kind of crap, almost deserves to be in it. Thailand provides far too many warnings and way too much leeway before one is actually accused on charges of this nature.

Again, an innocent person has got to be utterly stupid to get even this far in the game, when in fact the game could end as quickly as it would take any foreigner to tell these trained circus animals to, "F#ck off", were one to be approached on Walking Street. They've simply got no business there unless they are on someone's business. Clearly.

Yes but...If the incident took place more than a half a year ago and it took them this long to actually arrest him, how are we to know if the incident actually took place in the first place.

With such a serious crime as pedophilia would you wait more than a half a year to arrest someone that is walking around freely apparently totally oblivious that there is an arrest warrant on his head? If this person committed this crime more than a half a year ago and had an arrest warrant on his head don't you think he would have fled the country by now?

Something seems very strange about this case.

  2. How does anyone know that the boys were Cambodian?

Why wasn't he arrested when the event actually happened? What was the point of waiting for months later to arrest him.

Two people know him personally and one says he's a teacher while the other says he's a lawyer working on a sensitive case that may make him a target. One says he's a heterosexual with a wife and family while the other says he's a pedophile teacher that keeps young boys hostage in his apartment, which is also a problem because the police arrested him at his HOUSE, not apartment. Maybe he has a house AND and apartment?

There seems to be a lot of misinformation going on here. We need Sherlock, Colombo, The Mentalist, and Castle on this case.

  3. You KNEW THIS yet NEVER REPORTED HIM?

If what you're saying is true then you're slightly less guilty than he is for not reporting this to the police. How did you know this and why would you let it proceed?

So spermwhale used to work at a school and was entrusted with the welfare and safety of schoolage children yet was aware that a fellow employee held "adolescent boys" hostage in his apartment yet did nothing.

Hmmm...something sounds fishy here. Did spermwhale have something to hide and was afraid of a police investigation? What did spermwhale fear?

I think you guys are a bit confused.

The poster obviously didn't know about the bad stuff until after the pedo was listed by the global media for his crimes.

Thanks for clarifying. His post seemed to insinuate he was aware of these incidents at the time.

When did he learn of the adolescent boys being held captive because this article made no mention of past history of such serious offenses and it would be relevant to the news article.

Exactly! This guy is accused of soliciting minors. No where in the article does it say that he was holding adolescent boys hostage in his apartment. Where did that GEM come from?

  4. Buddy. I used to work with the infamous "Swirly face" Chris Neil at an international school when I first moved here and he pulled the same charade... Always talking about boning bar girls and women. But the ugly truth was he was holding adolescent boys as sex hostages in his apartment. Now I don't know about the Chris you know, but the point is.... you NEVER know.

You KNEW THIS yet NEVER REPORTED HIM?

I am absolutely fascinated how you got from A to B on this. Why do you think - or why DID you think - TimTang knew what Neil was up to at the time he worked with him? Is it just a reading problem or.... ? That's amazing.

    .

OK so maybe I have a reading problem. Here's my interpretation of 'spermwhale's' post:

He refers to him as "Swirly face" which I assume is and ad hominem insult, then suggests boning bar girls and women is a charade for his real sexual preferences, then goes on to say that he was holding adolescent boys as sex hostages some time in the past when he had previously worked with this individual. Then he suggests that the person he knows as Chris Neil is somewhat different than the person the previous poster was writing about.

I don't find that amazing; I find it irresponsible.

I personally don't know Chris Neil so I couldn't tell you anything about him. He may very well be a sick individual.

  5. I actually know Chris, and I must say this sounds like a set up to me. I have only know him to be attracted to women not men or boys. My gut tells me this is a set up for cash. I hope the truth will prevail.

  6. I remember about 7 years ago I was working at a large school teaching M1 and M6, so 12 your olds and 17/18 year olds.

I did a little fun survey as part of vocabulary and confidence-building. I asked all classes to tell me their favourite foods.

The M6 kids almost all told me they liked 'normal' Thai foods, such as fried rice, pad krapao, noodles, etc. 90% of them were of normal Thai build, i.e., slim and trim.

The M1's, however, all said they liked McDonalds, Pizza Hut & Company, KFC, hot dogs, 'Fren' Frie' and what we would call junk food. Hardly any mentioned a traditional Thai dish.

About 75% of them were verging on the obese. The difference between their builds and the 6 years between their ages showed a marked difference - in only 6 years obesity in this small sample had become the norm - and I blame the junk food companies.

If the good General were to do anything, he should tax the junk food outlets to the hilt and use the money to re-educate young Thais that the traditional Thai diet is in fact better for them. Make a Big Mac 500 baht and a packet of their appalling little grease-laden chips 150 baht and see if that would help youngsters to eat more healthily.

While it may not be 'scientific' it certainly is an interesting observation.

  7. Surely the key thing is balance. Thais are genetically programmed for a high intake of carbohydrate ( by consuming rice for 5,000 years). They are NOT adapted to overlaying that carb intake with mega loads of sugar from introduced western junk. To add a further load of carb from much higher milk consumption would create more problems. A balance of traditional diet with added dairy seems sensible, but only if the junk sugar, potato, crap carbs get the flick. This is a crisis for Thailand's future generations ( and today's kids)

I may be wrong but milk is a relatively new addition to the Thai diet as well as bread and the concept of refrigeration. Bread has been common in Laos, Cambodia, and Viet Nam due to French colonization but not so in Thailand.

Encouraging massive amounts of milk into the diet of a group of people that have historically lived without, may result in some unintended results.

On another note...while living in Thailand for 20 plus years I've noticed Thai females always add sugar to their Som Tum Boo, Quay Teo, and what ever other dish they may partake in and most of them have figures that most western women would die for. I'm certainly not an expert in nutrition but this seems to contradict all the horror stories we hear about sugar. Can anyone explain this?

  8. Some people just slip into this for some reason while others don't. I had a friend that did this and it was really annoying. I met a guy in Issan that lived there for a few years in a small village where this became his normal way of speaking. He was low on cash so had to go back to the UK for work. He told me that he went through an entire job interview and realized later that he had spoken pidgin the entire time. Needless to say...he didn't get the job.

  9. why would the red shirts be planning attacks on their own turf? does not make sense to me , is the army trying to turn the Isaan people against the red shirt movement ? planning attacks in Bkk or the Sth yes but this no way .....more propaganda the same crap over and over ...

When Taksin was in power most of his support came from the rural communities while he was shunned by the urban communities. While his 'War against Drugs' was rather ruthless most rural folks welcomed it because drugs became less available for their children. Taksin also brought in the health plan which made medical treatment more accessible to the poor people in the rural regions. Given the fact that many people in Isaan are probably still Taksin supporters and believed he was operating in their interest, then it would be a good idea to turn them against the Red Shirt Movement. I don't know how successful they'll be.

I remember when Taksin was elected I thought maybe he could be Thailand's Lee Kwan Yew but eventually it became apparent that he was more interested in increasing his own power and wealth at the expense of the country to fulfill that role. Maybe there's still a benevolent dictator in Thailand that can accomplish the same as Lee Kwan Yew did for Singapore. Anand Panyarachun is always brought out of the woodwork to settle things down and would have been a likely candidate but he's not mean enough.

  10. Thai army has honour and cannot be bought with money.

LOL !!! ignorance is a bliss. Top of Thai army has been bought with money, opium, timber, gemstones, etc, etc...

Foolish man. Think before you write. That will be just the kind of stupid post the new internet censors will be looking for. This coup and martial law is not some joke you can laugh your way through.

Riiiight! When you're in a foreign country and there's a military coup it's always a good idea to publicly (over the internet) criticize the military. Should you be traced and tracked down that should guarantee you a spot for the Darwinian Award for the year.

  11. Why bother to cross the border???

In the hot season there are places in the Mekhong river were you can nearly walk from Thailand into Vientianne without getting your feet wet or being spot by any control

Exactly! One time I went for a visa run and on arrival at the Thai consulate I was informed that I was in Laos illegally; I didn't even know.

Thais and Lao's go in and out of each country regularly with out ever going through immigration. In my case I had asked a cyclo driver to take me to where I can get into Laos. He took me to a long tail which took me across the river to what used to be immigration. I looked around the building but there was no where to stamp in.

As it turned out that was the way they used to do it before the friendship bridge so I had to reverse the process and re-enter the legitimate way. This was the Savankhet crossing not Vientiane.

So if I could enter Laos by accident I'm pretty sure someone on the run could figure our a way of crossing the river without going anywhere near an immigration station.

  12. I couldn't confirm whether or not these images are the same person but could someone please explain what a tourist would be doing with .22 shells in their room? Am I missing something? Is this a new recommendation for travel in the 'Lonely Planet'? I've been in and out of Thailand for years and n'ere a .22 shell did I posses.

I think we can safely assume that more images and evidence exist than these two photos and what's been presented in this article but if the .22 shells weren't planted by the police then that's a pretty clear indicator that this guy either has or had a gun. That alone is enough to get you busted in Thailand regardless if you committed robbery or not.

  13. How many criminals do ya think really use these CHEAP visa services or make this trip themselves to Ranong??

Most criminals I know have money to burn or launder and use air travel usually buisness class to do there visa runs..

All paid for with other peoples money...

Maybe has something to do with Burmese labourers then perhaps?

Though, isn't that rule supposed to apply to all entry points?

That used to be the rule but as Stoneyboy pointed out this wouldn't be news; and he's probably right. Maybe the other entry points have relaxed this rule. I actually got dinged by this rule once in the past and ended up spending about a week in Savanakhet struggling to get a 3 month tourist visa, and it wasn't easy. Visa rules are so unpredictable that you should prepare yourself for the worst whenever you pursue one and don't be surprised when you're stranded in a neighboring country.

  14. This is NEWS?

That rule has been in effect for years. I would have thought most people knew this.

    Am I wrong?

I doubt it would be touted as news if your above statement was correct.

It would read no change to the current visa exemption rules enter and leave Thailand by land border at your leisure as you have been doing.

I've been out of the country for a few years so you could very well be right, but for the last 5 years or so that I was in Thailand, three-strikes-&-your-out was the rule when it came to tourist visas on arrival (particularly the border stations). Maybe they laid off a bit for a couple of years. Who knows? I've been wrong before. Interesting though!

  15. when will all this stop ,we marry thai lady ,build house here come and live ,most of cause no problems ,we support there parents, educate there children ,then get hard time from the government ,visa runs ,our thai wife can come to the west get visa for life without any investment ,can start new life with no problems from the government /work,in the UK free health care ,,about time thailand ,gave as old gents little respect for our efforts ,for sure marrying a thai lady is better than ending up in a OAP home ,well maybe ,and well maybe cheaper

    Get a marriage visa

I think you missed his point. Even with a marriage visa there is the bullshit of 90 day reporting, renewing every year. In most 1st world countries, once you have been accepted for long stay, there isn't the constant bullshit of 90 day reporting and visa renewing for the rest of your life...once you're in, you're in.

It's true everyone is annoyed by that but I can promise you that will NEVER change.

  16. Have they also warned their employees not to steal packages send from abroad, or letters with replacement credit cards?

"Amen brother" I'd like to know the answer to that very real/significant question. I recently ordered an item from eBay. It was delivered, which prompted me to order two more items. They have no made it "through enemy lines." Guess I just "lost my head" and became confident with the success of the initial purchase. NEVER - well probably not lol - again. Sorry I have absolutely NO confidence in the Thai postal service.

Knock on wood but I've never had problems with Thai Post. I order a lot of stuff from Amazon and from Hong Kong and they've always made it through. Countless orders over the years and no problems so far. One thing I love about Thai Post is that they actually deliver EMS items on SUNDAYS also. I mean even DHL and Fedex don't do that. Bad luck for those who have had bad experience but for me, they're pretty good.

OK, it comes. If you're American, has your Social Security "Are you dead or alive?" questionaire ever come to you before the 45 day deadline was already past? Or required you to use the 600 baht EMS to get your reply in under the deadline? Just ask'n.

You should respond "Yes I am dead; Thanks for asking! You can send your condolences and flowers to the following address." Now that I'm dead I should be able to vote for Democrats at least 4 times, right?

  17. I still can't figure out why anyone would spend 110,000 Baht to tell the time. Even though it was fake it probably still told the correct time. Different strokes for different folks.

If you're going to buy a Rolex I'm sure many would recommend that a transaction at the Big C (a low budget bulk shopping center) to a complete stranger is not the best scenario to ensure authenticity of the product.
