I just Did my NON -O multi at HCM Vietnam

Dropped off the documents just before 11:30 AM the day I landed and picked up at 1:30 PM following day
No Ques there was only 2 of us there dropping off and 4 people picking up ...

It was the easiest and relaxing Visa Run I have ever done..

Flights  can be had for             return                    3500   THB

    Vietnam VISA                           USD $25 + $6 =      977     THB
Taxi Airport to District 1            VND 120,000 =        165     THB

Hotel rooms in District 1           THB 300-500/night

    Total                                                                     5100 THB

Could be done for a lot cheaper

I have seen flights as low as  RTN           1800 THB

Rooms can be had in a dorm for             $3    USD

Bus from Airport to District 1                  5000 VND

Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Vietnam HCM) is an excellent clean and efficient Airport just ensure you get your Visa approval inline before you arrive

    https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/

or use an agent online for a small additional fee
    www.vietnamimmigration.org/fee-for-vietnam-visa

Applying for Thai NON -O Multi costs USD $200 = 6000  THB

No Need for Proof of funds

All the staff at the Consulate spoke English and were genuinely helpful and ensured I had all the paperwork in order and correct supporting documents.

    All round an excellent experience.

The O-X is not just that - health ins from a Thai co.  I have that, and with better coverage than their reqs.... But I don't qualify.

It has to be health ins of specific policies offered by only THREE participating Thai insurers -- none of whom are any of the ones most commonly used by farangs here...

Health Insurance  AXA   example 120,000 baht 1 year payment up front,  100,000 baht excess in one year, before any payment made to the hospital by the insurer, after that the insurer will cover the rest of the year.   NO outpatients covered,  any pre existing conditions will not be covered,   this is for over 75 years of age.      What is worrying is the Pre conditions, a admin friend at the hospital told me that insurers in general will always try to relate the hospitalisation to a pre existing condition... This is alarming.   A big % of people have a kidney stone however small, so you go to hospital wit a kidney infection etc, they will not pay.....

My idea is to get a outpatients insurance,  and fund my own air fare back to the UK for treatment.

A little off topic BUT if you are made to have medical insurance for over 75 you have a problem.......out patients for most people are the most frequently used.  Re cap a mega problem is emergency in patient will cost you, minimum 5,000 UK pounds.

If your pension is capped, then I understand, but for me, I have found Thailand the easiest place to live. Direct flights, cheep, and most of it is safe. The safety issiu, is mostly in my hands, and not others.

Cambodia and Phillippines is not an option, and the same for Vietnam. Thailand is for me the easiest and best life, and the visa issue, is not really a problem, but you need to meet the money terms of course.

Good,  Even with my capped pension I do not have a problem, I was answering the post asking if there are easier options on visas in other countries.    The crazyist thing about the retirement visa is this 800,000 bank - 90 day report etc,    If you have say UK or Thai bank statements of pension income AND a fully comp insurance for re-pat, out patients, hospitalisation accident etc this should be enough,

  4. Sounds fine, BUT,  there will be some very angry 5 year Elite members,  what will happen there ?  They report every 90 days and have already paid out 500,000 baht to join.

I agree with another poster, if you have lived here more than 5 years, and have some records of purchases,   condo, cars, motor bikes, bank accounts, with an insurance hospitalisation/re-pat to native country clause, Thailand would double or treble it's ex pat visitors.    All this record/proof of income sent to a Thai bank---have a bond of 200,000 banked (returnable when leaving the country for good).....Thailand would have all they want here for feeling comfortable about having no care when ill, or funds to live and eat.   Like an Elite card idea, ( condo purchase) why not give a 10 year visa free if an ex pat buys cash a new car  ????

Again, how does making me cough up 250k make this more attractive to me?

You  ?? seems to be all about you.   Forget just you. 250k in a bank for security proving you have funds to live here not having pension transferred to a Thai bank....get my drift. The 25k was a 1 payment a year to Immigration for the year visa, with 90 day reporting as per law.  End of story mate --covered all.  not want posts deleted by mods...so please let it be. OK

Well I’m sorry if I haven’t memorized all of your recommendations, but in the post I responded to, there was nothing about ฿250K.

In any event, that seems even less cost effective.

    I don’t think you’re rude, a bit foolish perhaps.

Read again, It is there.    You nit picked a trick some posters apt to do.    I am maybe off topic concerning the mix up of a document that was not full in it's explanation, I suggested some easier for the cross section of ex pats.  Name calling is also not on ---Maybe 77 years but not foolish.

So you think a country should allow anyone that can scrape up 25k to stay in the country for a year?

No---- a reply that is after brownie points, does not reflect my suggestion as you leave out many stipulations I suggested. unfair reply.  if you wish to post please do not post this style,    DID YOU read my suggestion about having a security of 250k  NO  because it suited your style....    Just look at your reply and how it sounds, pathetic---I am being honest and not being rude.

Just a matter of being practical. When you look at the whole package, before 3,000 baht and the hassle of sending off conformation of pension, and the ordering of the said documents, now this uncertainty.  Thai cannot keep it simple.. like no orders to transfer funds from pension sources,  placing 800,000 in a Thai bank , running every 90 days like your on parole, Having your landlord sending copies of ID passport and deeds and lease. and having a select minority with 65k a month exempt.  I am not the bank and live well but would gladly pay a yearly 25k and proof of residence/health insurance. You my friend sound like the minority with over adequate means to stay in Thailand,  BUT bully for you, I am not jealous but making a sensible suggestion.  25k to stay here is not much to pay for a years stay.

Just to add, I do not use an agent or cheat, you make your post sound like I cheat...not nice...as I never mentioned cheat in my original post.

I notice you didn't mention having "X-amount" of income to live on other than maybe address rent and medical insurance (which is still not req'd).   And that X-amount would be the Bt65K/40K per month which TI considers adequate for a farang.   Since rent in Thailand can be only a few thousand baht per month if living poor Thai style if the TI gave out long stay cards for only Bt25K per year with no income requirement then Thailand has just turned itself into a magnet for migrants around the world.

Now if you did mean, "Well, yes a person would still need to meet the Bt65K/Bt40K monthly requirement or a Bt800K/Bt400K large deposit requirement," then there is no need for an expensive long stay card...why pay Bt25K per year for such a card when we currently get a long stay stamp in our passport for Bt1,900.

Lease and owner documents apply from the lessee for a retirement visa.  Quote--25k for expensive long stay card  ???    I have lived here 14 years, bought 6 new cars and 3 motor bikes, condo --- dined and ate at the best.   No need for a income to produce if immigration had a law that long stayers have suggest 250k in a thai bank as guarantee to show funds for living

Well the guys that were already cheating can continue cheating using an agent.

Why should the guys that haven’t been cheating cough up an extra 23K?

฿25,000 to avoid depositing funds into an interest bearing account?

Think you got on the wrong bus, as many on here ...say if you not have 800,000 leave attitude, or it is your fault if you do not get 65,000 a month, Talking about a alternative to the big shamozzle regarding Retirement.   Your reply makes it so simple but if you look through 66 pages it is not that simple, only for the small %.

  12. Many would disagree on this BUT, If only Immigration would give a Long stay card ( similar to the 5 year elite)  yearly or longer, without the B/S of golf course, lounges, limo's and the like but have the 90 day reporting, lease/deeds address, insurance.  Name your price Immigration but suggest 25,000 baht per year and cut out all this uncertainty, and heartache for ex pats here.

Just curious, How do they check where you're living?

Address UK..Embassy Thai....bank withdrawals,  entries to the UK and how often return ticket dates.  pensions paid direct to Thai banks,  voting,   driving licence info, passport issued to where ??  etc....  address given and recorded at Immigration and info to Embassy of residence.   AND MORE.

Just pay an agent instead of paying to TE. I have a feeling that agent prices are going to go down (specially in Pattaya) to accommodate various scenarios created by "no income letter" fiasco. Keep 500K. You may not need it in your advanced age but you never know.

My retirement renewal/extension ends Sept .  so will hang around until say June ...make a decision then. (agents may become has beans, Immigration laws altered again.....)  As I stated why on earth do they not as in some countries pocket big money and charge a high fee annually say 50k 90 day report, end of fiasco......everyone a free agent to have his money where he likes without money stashed in Thai banks and pensions transferred.

    Earlier, you wrote:

If that is your case, you won't have to sell anything, and you have even more money "in the bank" than needed.  If you can Transfer your 30K pension to a Thai Bank every month and keep 440K Baht minimum in a Thai bank account for 3 mo prior to applying for your extension.   Your combo-application would work like: (30K x 12 = 360K + 440K = 800K).

The 30k old age pension is approx paid now.  My pension was capped 11 years ago, because I live here ( UK wording, not normally reside in the UK) paid now 20k, this is with being honest as so many people do not tell the pension department.  Many persons will soon get a big shock as the department are now checking up on persons not informing,  MAYBE will owe the pensions back money already paid.......mega problem soon for some. Big brother is watching now.
