  1. "The suspect said he had to carry a gun to protect tourists."

    Love that one.

Yes, that was good! I see the police have already started this thai man's defense stating that those darn japanese were bad underwold men.hah....There is no doubt in my mind what happened. The Tourist's were po-ed that the Japanese men were angry and giving him a hard time since they paid the man to be there are a certain time and the job was sloppy. Then loss of Face, then loss of lead! Some Thai people can be fiery expecially when confronted with lack of knowledge or lack of skills or lack of "truth" !

I know when I hire a tour guide I always quote to them my afiliations with Al capone from Chicago before we leave.!!...duhhhh....what a crock of noodles.....gangsters my butt....This guy will get off for sure.....heck, he lost face!....whatdya want anyway for defense?.....the toursits indusries is already dying a slow death with this kind of thing. The Japanese people are not too happy with Thailand anyway since that Japanese photographer newsman was gunned don last year during the red shirt "rally" riot...That gun "to protect the tourist's" didn't do too good of job this time. Those hill tribe people can be very muderous

  2. Nice one...he sure picked the wrong guy to murder.

Was the guide registered? probably not and there are plenty more like him who buy an "official guide" badge and ID and set off on their merry ways to cause mayhem.

What often amazes me with serious crime in Thailand is that the perpetrators don't give a thought to the years they will spend in a hell hole. Seems this is no deterrent for them.

I suspect that the tour guide was starting to feel "loss of face" and bam bam. Japanese people are not so mai pai ren as Thai people. There is a good possibility this tour guide(legal or not) will not spend any jail time or very little . I am sure this was self delfense or suicide. Yes, that's it.,,...it was suicide. Hari kari!!......those japanese do that you know!

  3. I see we are laughing because what else can we do?

We all know that a Farang in Thailand is lower than a prostitute to the Police.

I remember a bar owner over down the street on Soi Nana. he was found dead sitting in a chair, with his hands tied behind his back with a plastic bag tied tight around his neck.

Yeah--it was suicide said the police.

    HAAA HAAAA HAAAA

Do you think they like you? You would treated more fairly by the Police in Africa than here.

    Oh well.

Just go home Farangs. It is not safe here for you. You like your woman? Take her back home to your home nations. Do not let your third arm do your thinking for you.

This place is very very Farang unfriendly.

    So right MJ,

Couldn't agree more, MJ.....The police actually have an introductoy seminar to teach them how to always keep things looking as peacfull as possible as not to destroy the tourism industry. I.e., suicides rather than forignors mudered. Can you imagine how the truth about how many are murdered. There is no question as to that happening at a rate that would kill a big part of "Amazing Thailand" tourist dollars. Then what wouild happen to thier economy?....so everything is attached to "looks of things" Not to mention,in my opinion, some semblance of actual satisfaction that one of those darn falang's finally got what he had comming.....yep, you know, MJ!.........A falang in los can't go around unaware of this for long because it will blindside him by surprise. years of learning how to extract the dough..99% of the crimes! In other countrys with the same circumstances would be prosecuted and the killers or robbers would be in jail. There is an actual law that people follow rather than laws in los of "how we want it to look law"....caa-ching$...The funny(not funny) part of about it all is, they really think you believe them when they determine suicide....stupid?....or sneeky?.....I vote sneeky and stupid....all bundled neatly to anything they want! No one can make a fuss about thier wrong investigation because they will find themselves in the same situation of what you made the fuss about....you don't mess with thier income or bribes! Who do you complain to? is that person connected to? so no one can question the facts they determine. There is an underworld in los so extensive it is just a maze of untruths and distortions for anything.....saving face, saving cash, saving a thai....it does not matter, a falang is always wrong!!!...even when he is right!

  4. The victim's girlfriend, Miss Nantakarn Sudsri, 25 (resides in Dansai, Loei) stated that she stepped outside for a moment after a heated argument with Mr. Singha, who was drunk at the time.

When she came back to the apartment, which they have moved in a few months ago, she found her boyfriend dead, Miss Sudsri reported.

Stepped outside for a moment - came back and found him dead - reported to the police 24 hours later. Yes, just an accident. :(

That would have been what most people would do, correct? wait 24 hrs after you have had plenty of time to assure that your loved one is completely dead!

..........I can understand that!..Then just tell the police how things happens. The problem is, these so called "wives" can't even make up a good story to fit the scenerio of the facts. But it is taken as said by the perp. (that's police talk)...:whistling:....The police, in turn, make thier report. It goes like this,

" one dead drunk falang found and looks as though he cut himself while drunk and is confirmed by the wife" case closed! ..."p.s..We don't want this type of thing getting around as it may take tourist dollars away from us" to think there might be violent crimes committed by the smilng faces we all see. ...

This of course is subjective and in Los no one can be objective with anything ....one poster said something about "thier logic" ...I don't know about anyone else but I have seen very little logic come into play, nor questioned, even if the story sounds completely impossible....So many Thai's are connected in some way to someone that can help take of the business at hand, no matter what that "business" is! I guarantee that anyone down the line will never face any scrutiny. ......those so called honest police oficers do have brothers and sisters and cousin's so far down the line that no one in the line will be placed under scrutiny. Los is a Dangerous place, no doubt about it! Number" 2" right under Columbia, South America for murder. Go figure, huh...Most of the death's in los are from falling off balcony's or found dead unexplained because we all know that ALL falang;'s are just drunks and only come for one thing.....right?...bs!!.......I have never spent one day in any nana, or phuket or pattaya, or anywhere of the such let alone a go go bar type place but I have seen and been victim or they have tried to make me, of about every scam you have ever heard of in los. Once one lives and learns , then it gets a tad scary as you do know the extent and depth of corruption, and for what? you ask?.......$$$$$$$$$.....!!!. Life is cheap in Los, believe it! or lose it and just be darn careull and keep your head working and always think that it is your money somone is after in some way or manner or form, and you may be safe for awhile, hopefully. Unless you let your guard down, then you may find yourself falling from the 9th floor balcony after drinking a chang ....the sound of you hitting the ground won't sound like chang to you, but it sure will sound like that to "her" This is an objective blog!. coming from true experience in "the land of smiles"

  5. I think Thai's who have true western friends treat them as equals, but many Thai's think that they should take advantage of westerns if given the opportunity. Happens to me all the time here.

My Thai wife found a house to rent for 10,000 baht, until the land lord found out i was western, and then she asked for 12,500 baht.

I bet you the owner was happy when he found out a tourist wrecked his jet ski, sort of like winning the lottery.

You really should have said well, you will think about it and you have a few more places to look at.......the owner would rent it for 10k.np..one reason is he knoiws he would get his rent on time....that is a plus..right?......think like a thai.....haggle

Let me know if you get your deposit back after you move too.......you know that is history, trust me! happens to me all the time too....me and you and a million other falang's. How about the houses that are for rent for falang's only......that is a good one!!......wonder why that is......hmmm ;)

any question about what the reason's are.....it's los.......:).

  6. what if the jetski on it wild chase without driver, would have killed some mix of thai and farangs ? who would be liable ?

in thailand : allways the farang, jailtime, millions in fine

stay of the dam_n jetski scams... you would not be able to drive one in your own country without the propper marine licence, so why you think this would be different in this underdevelopped country ????

Nicely said and correct. Of course it would be the richest and of course that is a falang. the thinking in los comes under a whole different rule. If we were in America and Bill gates ran into your car, he would be liable and if you ran into his car your insurance would have to pay no matter who has the most money.

In Thai mind it is the richest who pays when anyone goes to dinner or has a trip. The falang is expected to pay, why?..because "they think" he/she is the richest and this goes for everything in los....Everything is backwards from the tan on your skin to who is more important. It is mind boggling but once this notion is understood then you can see why they do it...You can afford to, and it is just a drop in the bucket for you!! so the best remedy for everyone where no one is hurt more than has to be, will not be....No one takes into consideration the fact that most tourist do save and plan for a vacation to los. Thai's really and truly think you can just jump on a plane and come at the drop of a hat. they have no idea you are not filthy rich. If you don't pay, you are stinky! ....It's the mindset and uneducated society that mostly does this. It isn't an unethical thing to take a little tiny bit from a millionaire.....right?....yes it is if it's wrong as most western people understand, but not in los....This has been the downfall of many a thai falang relationship to where the guys wife thinks he is being stinky because he has all the money he has....which could be anything from 1000us to 50,000us and to them you are rich......no one see;s the bills you have or credit cards you pay or count up what you have already spent on your trip or living arrangments....just the gross is counted....

back to the point. It is Thai culture to just think it is the richest that pays....no matter what the circumstances...yes, it's extortion to be correct but that is how it is....maybe in 20-30 years things could change but as long as falang's are stupid enough to keep paying it will continue....it's life in los.....ones who move and live as we expates do have to have a very thick skin and a very mai pai ren attitude in sincerity to survive in los.....vacationing and living are two totally different things. Vacationing you will come back and say you had a wonderful time and want to come again, providing you have not been burned too bad....liiving in los.....now you will start to see the inside workings of things and the frustrations that are involved with visa's etc. it will drive you up a wall at the total lack of logic of things. Some people will make it if they have the right..hmm...mind set i suppose....but most can only take 6 mo then vacation back home again.....then come again.......full time you will be in a nut house if you have an type A personality and need to understand what is happening all the time with things. I think staying drunk much of the time helps many survive the deception of things....Anyway the reason this happens is deep down they don't like you and resent your ability to have more money and face than them. They don't like you!!!..and also pure greed!.money is worshipped more than buddha in los.....just the way it is.....no one can change it......like it or leave or be very carefull and stick to yourself and away from the seedy area's(where ever those places are) and hunker down......have a sing or chang ...and let it all out......then do it all again....hmm, I think I am rambling on now so.......much peace and happiness to all.!!....but heck ,this is a good ole Budwieser :D...ahhhhhhhhh...well, i need to get back to my book called "under the bleachers".......it's about real life in los....good book and everyone needs to read it...........that "seymore Butts" is one good author!!..........cheers....:D

  7. I guess there is no disputing this scratch. Lucky it was not one of JJ's or the bill would have been millions and your 1st born for this scratch. Why don't operators have insurance covering the ski's as well as injuries. (public liability) Is the law in Australia. Anyway looks like the yank has to pay up on this one.

Well, you have to understand that the "second insurance policy that the owner has will pay for everything after it is apraised for the damages and the other policy that the renter see's is the one for gouging the tourist's. Very clever and of course this other policy is never divulged until the owner/leasee pulls it out after the fact. He will have the police report and everything right handy to show for the second policy. This makes for a nice grubsteak and a new jetski to sell to the poor other sucker that wants to try and fix it up so he can get in on the scams too. He will get a really cheap price and then on they go....very crafty leasee. There is no law that says he can not have two policys, of course knowing he will be able to make up for it by the extr'as getting charged for those darn scratches that were there when he rented but happened again when he rented it...no 360 pictures taken before renting is a big mistake.....

come on? think like a thai, fella's!!! how ya gonna get ahead not doin that?......doo daa....:whistling:

  8. You need a work permit even if working online.

I would think a little more on 3k being enough to live in Thailand considering everything involved! Where you live and if you get a thai gf......now if the latter is involved you better at least double or triple that amount. Bkk is not as cheap as it once was even 2-4 years ago....I lived average in Los in the north and the sounth in Bkk. Norh(CM)t is cheaper and better in my opinion but even there you can expect to pay 300US for a decent condo or apartment plus the extra overcharges....more than a thai can live.......my experience....you need 100k to live confortable enough but still not as good as your own country....

  9. Any one knows who we can get in touch with for complaints ?

Friends of my son came for a holiday . Rented a motor bike. The motorbike fell over and scratched the rubber on the handle bar. The owner wanted 30.000 Baht compensation.

the local Police supported the bike owner and the boy had to pay under threat of the Police who conviscated his passport. Nothing the Touris Police could do...they just dont have ther power. This will continue and I anm so much in favour of alarming foreign newspapers but the good ones in Thailand will suffer as well ! Shame. Corrupt Autorities !

This is Thailand L.O.S it is unfortunate that your son was scammed this happens all the time police will not help , but why didn't you do some research online before renting a motorbike ?

I'm sorry to say, that the only way he could have gotten out of the 30k would be to bribe one of the local fuz 5k each or 20k.....In Los it is always on the rich falang to pay as they see it as "you have plenty" and it's only fair even if it is not your fault. You are over a barrell!! . Like it or don't go to los or be vewwwy carfull of what you do. Never rent anything if you can't do anything otherwise and rent a car and not a motorbike or jetski.......I know(heard of) one guy that rented a motorbike for a monthly fee and the owner came and stole the bike and made him pay for the loss.......happens all the time......smile! your in Thailand!...remember, it's the lands of smiles......thiers!!!

  10. :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: Mission Impossible sorry. This is just another so called thai CRACK DOWN we have one every couple of days.

Don't forget, when they have CRACK DOWNS they invariably net criminals in drugs and sex raids (often busting ring's in the process) so you shouldn't deride them on this!!

As far as scams and illegal activity of this nature go then that's a different matter as those who's remit is to investigate corruption will inevitably have to investigate police activities as well as courts and lawyers and also Immigration and government personnel - and they're response to this unwelcome interference into their illegal money making ventures will be fierce and could make life uncomfortable for the investigators as they often control the levers. Any such prying into their activities will be met by a powerful, collective wall from the "brother's in arms" forces determined to prevent themselves from losing their so called "tea/coffee money" making it harder to prove wrongdoing through collective obstruction. It doesn't help that the WHOLE system is engaged in crooked activities to some degree and closing this down is near impossible in reality as corrupt judges will halt any case whereby the outcome will have an adverse affect (or even implicate them) through the course of the action being taken.

I envisage that better control and a reduced level may be the best on offer, but there is no guarantee that this can achieved either as it is so ingrained into the Thai way of doing things and it may be a step too far to be able to change it!!!

Absolutely! I would trust only the poorest rice farmer before I would trust anyone on up, from the local police to the very top!!...I think most that live in Thailand will agree, as those people don't have the power to produce the system that has become, to date! Thai society is completely inindated with corruption and I suppose that is because of the very nature of survival,

So, in that respect, we have to understand, and for that matter live and grow up in a country where survival is neccessary! The tuk tuk guys(example) are mostly and most certainly, I think, from poor area's and have found a means that works for them, not that they are inherintly bad, but it has become the way to eat and be able to be looked at as someone......Money!! ...Anyway they can get it, that's what people judge others on in los.....it's sad but untill this country becomes connected in a way of actual ethical and legal ways where people are held responsible!!!!!! for thier misdeeds and lose "face" then it won't ever change. I suspect another 20 years, or more!....hmmm...besides, they need that new mobile phone that just came out!!....then they will be cool again....life is good!...and that neighbor has something the other doesn't have, and we can't have that, can we?......it's about how it looks and not how it really is!!!...that is what is the most important part of living in the land of smiles!!......ethics is just a word, that is not understood what it is yet!..it will come!....eventually!!..........I wanna come and save a thai girl.from the horrors......ok, im buying my ticket now..$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$,, that for her , the ticket is only $...............

I would argue 1 point here. I don't think that it is a case of survival (not NOW anyway) and put it down to two thing's and that is "pure greed" and the fact they can get away with it seemingly with impunity. It might well have had it's origins in Survival many decades ago but it has evolved into something completely different connected very much so with avarice and opportunism.

As an aside on this, I have noticed that dishonesty from non or small business Chinese and Muslims is far less prevalent than for Thai's. I think that it is to do with their ancestral upbringing and parental teaching that tells them that adopting honesty is an important factor in life that will make you a better person. Incidentally, it will gain you loyalty from others and mean that you will have more, true, friends that are dependable as a result. What is more valuable?? a friend, or a small amount of dishonestly gained money (guilt, or no guilt as to how it was obtained).

I will say, I have to agree, it is pure greed at this point too!. I am amazed and completely ubable to understand how they can tell the sorys and lies without one iota of guilt!!

One experince, i will have to refer to is my 3 year old niece that had just been shopping with her parensts(poor people) and they had just bought new school clothes, shirts pants etc.

That very evening, sitting on the table as we/they do, the little girl told myself and my wife that she didn't have any new clothes for school!!!..hmm...well, this told me a whole understanding of why my own wife can lie without her thinking anything of it....No one and I mean no one said a word to this little 3 year old for lying......I understand where this dishonestly comes from...it's not from them but it is from NEVER learning from thier parents or elders when they lie.....sooo, this is inherent in the whole culture....How many of us guys that are married to thier thai wfe that have heard the whopper storys?......they don't think it's a bad thign as long as it gets them what they want....I have to forgive some of it because of the greedy uneducated parents that raise them....ughh.....then they will use thier own children to get $ at any cost with the child feeling so brainwashed into thinking it is thier duty to cheat scam lie to get that buck.for them even if it ruins thier chances of having a happy life with a good man.....very sad.....who fault is it?....how can anyone blame someone that has only known scamming as how to gain what it is they want...??.....veery very sad.

  11. Tuk-tuk drivers really are the worst cheaters of all in Thailand and their constant pestering really should have been dealt with ages ago. Nice to see that someone in power takes notice of such things (even if he doesn't respect farangs). When it comes to cheating tourists, Cambodia, Lao and Malaysia are a lot worse. I think tourists really need to stick up for themselves and refuse to take a lot of crap that these local leaches dish out on tourists on a daily basis. Sometimes people need to know when being nicey nice doesn't work with these creeps.

Sadly just a pipe dream as in LOS it is a national trait to rip off farangs.

Sadly, this guy knows what he's talking about!!!....Thailand could be such a great place without the crapola we have to deal with! .,,imagine it being and honest and true smile?..and imagine no one double prcing you because you are a falang, and imagine if you didn't have to hide when your thai wife hails a taxi for fear of overcharges...hmmmm.....or lose your deposit when you rent something.....wow.......then I could handle full time in los....

  12. Isn't this this same schlemiel who "doesn't respect farangs?"

And his criticism of the cruise line is ludicrous. The tuk-tuk drivers have about as much right to scam cruise ship passengers as I do to gang-bang Sutep's wife, video tape it and sell it to a porn site.

When the passengers do get scammed, they blame the cruise line (and could easily sue them - and win) and then guess what? The cruise line avoids Phuket next time.

His comments about foreigners scamming foreigners and Thais and foreigners scamming foreigners is pandering to the Thais listening who might bristle on the notion that they are anything but a nation of honest, hard-working, racist licentious hypocrites.

At least the leadership is maintaining the standards of ineptitude.

Re- read his full statement and get the whole story. He didn't blame the "cruise line", he blamed the tuk-tuks for blocking and preventing the passengers from using the tour buses that the tourist paid for. But added the tuk-tuk had just as much right as the tour operator. But the problem is the tuk-tuks rip off the tourist by over charging them. Two separate issues here.

The tuk-tuk drivers in that case didn't have ANY right. Buses and vans were pre-booked by the passengers and tour operators. They have no right to demand that a passenger who has already paid for one service, abandon a portion of that payment and use the Tuk-tuk service. Tuk-Tuk drivers are losing out to better marketing by wiser competitors. If they want the business, they need to be marketed better and, if half of what I read about the tuk-tuk operators is correct, then fat chance of them being portrayed as a better option by any marketing campaign.

They didn't only selfishly demand satisfaction where it wasn't due, they hurt a lot of other business operators who stood to gain by receiving tourist expenditures. It is the rest of the businesses who need to stand up to the tuk-tuk operators.

And of course, the law needs to be enforced.laugh.gif

wow, yes why can't a police department take care of that kind of thing?......This kind of hinderance of tourist's can be handled easily same as any other country...just call the police and have them do thier job......EZ.......it's over, done with.....and then the problem is solved....right?......or are we having another "CRACK DOWN".....haah....

  13. :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: Mission Impossible sorry. This is just another so called thai CRACK DOWN we have one every couple of days.

Boy, you hit the nail on the head with that mention about foriegnors scamming foriengors!! That might happen about .001% of the time, but for the most part we ALL know who is getting scammed and by whom....Thai media at it's best, to show that it is equal scamming going on..(those pesky firiegnor scamming cheaters).haaaaaaa to try and put us in with THIER cons.....what a joke........good post!!

  15. Nice to hear from someone that is doing OK. and happy with there lot. But everything over here is not all a bunch of rose's. From the visa set up having to report every 90 day's even if married. To the Thai xenophobic attitude toward's the Farang's. And even themselve's to wit the colour of your skin.

I have lived here full time for over 15 year's and am still surprised by the thing's I see and hear.

Agree with the language ie try and learn. What bugger's most is the tone's 5 in all. EG. Thai, Mi, Mi, Mi, Mi, Mi, all said in different tone's "English" New wood does'nt burn dose it. Yes I know not something you would use every day but now you know how easy it is, or not as the case may be.

I think you have to be very much in love or be happy with your lot to live out in the stick's. It's got to be a route march to even go shopping. Lack of a good TV set up is another thing, yes I know it can be got but for a price, even more than Blighty. Even computer speed is a major problem.

As far as the money side is concerned as you pointed out not cheap anymore at 48bt to the pound.

I agree with you, you can't pick the family. That's why I said be careful how close you live. In all my post I just try to be helpful and point out the thing's that can occur. Please Buddha they dont but best to be not looking at thing's through rose tinted glass's.

Like your situation with the ex wife, over here you end up with nothing if thing's go wrong.

Get it right and you will be happy, get it wrong and your in the du du's. Saying that would I live anyware else in the world. Not on your life. Even with all it's up's and down's.....Got a good dentist if you want to help out your old chicken's. Just a thought.

Hey Fredo, thanks for turning me on to this thread! I see I am not the only naive one in the world. I won't go into all my experiences except what I have written before. I just want others to know and learn from my mistakes and I will just jot a few of my things down as I see them in not neccessarily in order of importance for coming and living in Thailand except the first one!

    1. Never let anyone know your exact income!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!- and forget ethics and morals

    2. Always be on your toes when it come to money

    3. Don't trust any thai until you know them verrry good

    4. rent for at least a year before buying anything

5.try and have a falang friend to talk with

    6. Never let anyone know your income!

    12. Don't ever loan money to a Thai( stead fast rule) unless you have callateral in hand.

    13. Make sure and have or get an automobile soon after living in Thailand. Use a bus rather than tuk tuk or taxi(cheaper)

    14. Don't live in Bkk too long-try and live in Chiang mai or smaller (less traffic and easier to drive)

    15. don't marry legally unless you want to worry about becoming a suicide victim(for insurance)...accidentally of course!

31, Now go home with your tail between your legs .:jap: and enjoy what you had and didn't know you had!.....There is a reason thai's want to come to YOUR home country! If Thailand was such a paradise, why is that? and last but not least, Never trust a Thai if you are a falang!! Did I mention, never trust what you are told? It's most likely a story to get your hard earned money......ok done!......just my advice for anyone thinking about having a wonderfful new life in los....

Also remember, all Thai people think you are filthy rich and if you don't have the money they want, you will be labeled stinky,,,because, after all, you are filthy rich! They can not comprehend that you are just like anyone else with bills to pay etc. You are rich!!,,,,you will be expected to build a new house for your wife and expected to buy a new truck for the family or father, You will be expected to buy most eveything when shopping because you are rich!!

You're wife will not understand that YOU have resonsibilitys in your home country to try to keep your credit good etc. That is not ever ever taken into account. It just that she knows you have this much pension and she thinks she should get 50% gross before any bills are paid...it's freeking crazy .....good day!....:jap:

  16. Thanks it would be good to try to find some other Falang to socialise with!

    Hello, Buang

I would have been there in sri samrong with my wife this last week and last year If stayed with her family. I imagine yoiu may be meeting a nice thai girl there. hehe...could be my wife .

From what I enjoyed living and staying in sukhothai(srisamrong) area. We have(she has) a house and her parents live there. I didn't want to stay more than a week because the cheap living, you will soon find out that the brothers and cousins will of course, want a loan for just a week and so on, but you'll never see a satang. My wife(i married her too soon) has conned me out of so much baht that I can't count it anymore. Building a room and two air conditioners for this house and of course all the truck payments and all the food. I am back in the states now and have just heard too many storys for cash.

I'm not sure how most falang can stay in Thiland and always be on the lookout for why a lie is being told to you. But you can certainly be sure there is a twist in the story and it won't make sense, but you'll give the money to be "jai dee" ...I am even wondering if you are heading to sri samrong to meet my wife hehe...(no kidding) . I have lost so much money on her and have heard the storys although she has no problem coming to be withe me when I am there. Thailand is just too much! The musquito's. the heat and unconfortablness of it all not to mention not being able to hear or understand what is being said. I do wish I had a falang friend there too. My last weeks storys was that her mother is in icu at the hospital(sri samrong) and she has no money etc. I sent her some of course (only 4kB) but I think this is the last I will do, ever!!!. After a year and half of being with this gal, she has turned me into a walking zombi wanting to believe what she has told me but I know it's mostly bull. She can be one of the sweetest, most sincere sounding ladies that is hard to refuse. I have lost two cars and close to 1million bajt. I came to Bkk last week to be with her again and she came to Bkk to stay with me knowing I can't handle her whole family around all the time. After the first day, I knew I couldn't stay long enough to help her get her visa. She was on the telephone almost constantly leaving me to my thoughts mostly. I paid about 200B everry day for her phone calls . The 4th day, was knock at the door at 6am and this guy evidently wanted his 20,000K that was a loan from a loan shark(she said)...be carefull in Sukhothai who you meet and what gal you end up with. For that matter if you are in Thailand anywhere to meet or be with a thai lady...just be on your toes...they are goooood! and you'll find yourself behind on your bills and behind on your brains and will be close to toast by the end, for that matter way before you finally say "enough"

Wish I was there when you were! In my days staying in sri samrong(2 months all together) (we lived Chiang mai) I only saw about 2 falang unless we went over to the old city to see the temples, which is a nice sight to see. The rest of Sukhothai is the same as any other small town in Thailand. Family and cousins all around. One thing to remember, the ones they calll cousin's could be anyone, old boyfriend or just friend...I know I got off on a wrong subject from you just wantng to know other flang there but I couldn't help it heh...sorry, it would have been nice to have another falang to help me out with advice while there also.....Are you living there now? or just passing through? I'm not sure if I will be back in Sukhothai very soon again, for that matter, Thailand itself. It broke me! I think!.......sorryfor getting off of your subject....

  17. I speak from experience with these kinds of women.

She is frequently lying because the woman has no respect for you and probably has hidden agendas. Her lack of English language skills is only an excuse.

My advice is: do not trust anything she says or does and keep a well trained eye on her. Especially her phone and Internet contacts and where she goes.

    [/quote

BJ is correct! Most men with this same experience with thai wife/gf finally figure this out! If you can not trust her, Leave and go back home.

This won't end as long as you let it go on. She will never respect you for staying while she shoves loads of bs down your throat and you still

give her what she wants=Cash/Baht for what ever reason she thinks sounds good. Just forget it all and take care of yourself!!..end of story!

  18. Hi all

Here is my take on the subject of Thai verses western thought. We in the west have been brought up on Greek Philosophy [Aslop The Ant and the Grasshopper] where the individual is of most importance The Thais on the other hand live in the Oriental train of thought [ Tao, Buddha etc [ where the family, village ] out weighs the individual. Add to that climate, we of the west had to make hay while the sun shined or you starved in the winter. Then throw in a few hundred years of industrial revolution, where the people where brainwashed to believe that work is the most important part of life and that you must be the best at what ever you do, whether cleaning floors or runing a multi million company.

Went to a wedding yesterday, they had what most western couples could only dream of, they had their own home. Maybe it is just a hut, but it is theirs. No 25 years of mortgage payments where both man and wife have to work to pay.

When I first came here the people believed they were rich. There was rice to eat, fruit on trees, fish in the rivers. No one went hungry. Then the first TV came and Shangri La was lost.

Things are changing, people buy cars etc on payments and now have to work, but not everyone as of yet has joined the race to own things.

As the Buddha says live in the moment. We live for tomorrow, but tomorrow never comes. Who really lives the best life. Jim

The perfect analogy was "The and and the Grasshopper: I.e. Thai's spend thier money as fast as they can when they get some or some extra. There is no thought of tomorrow or next month/year! This is one of the big problems living and ajusting in Thailand. If you are a falang married to a Thai lady and happen to live with her family, you will be always over ridden by the eldest father or uncle etc. Even if you make total sense, your advice will not be even thought about as they see us westerners as people who have recieved our money/pension easily because we have lived in the west where everything(they think) is given or gotten easy.

Have you ever looked at the family vehicle of a rural farmer? and checked the iol?...Black? Do you think that the thought of actually taking care of the mechanical parts might just extend, let alone cost less in the end, to use and drive much longer because it has been taken care of? This is the same method used for living each day. Not to think too much and just get that day over and worry tomorrow about that day! I.e. The ant and the grasshopper".........get used to it and get used to being just the falang that comes in handy for the bills and luxury items you will be required to buy, not to mention the loans that will be needed for fixing the vehicles that you tried giving advice on for longer service...It will make you smile alot when you have to do that! Refuse, and you are stinky and not jai dee. ahhh, it's wonderful not being in charge of your own life, isn't it?

  19. Get used to white lies or break up and go home. Nothing you do will stop it.

UG is right as rain!......I went through all the lies and by the time you are a basket case trying to figure out why or when the next lie is comming, you will eventually give up. The rain stopped the phone?..haha ya sure, It was another lie. It;s just how these gals do! I just returned 1 week ago after going back from being angry at the lies from the last time. But I only last 2 weeks before I split and got totally away from her and hid in a motel and got the first ticket back.to Bkk, I found myself back only to hear she had borrowed from a loan shark and wanted me to bail her out. I thought it was crap but at about 6m a guy knocked on the door(she told them where we were staying)..duhhh...I just picked up my bags and split. This guy held up two fingers to show 20,000baht.....You will never know what the truth of anything is there and if she is lieing now she always will and they will get bigger. My advice is to do what I did, no matter h0w hard it is to leave her. It will possibly save your life too not to mentuion most of your cash!!....Hope y7ou listen!! This lieing stuff is and just seems to be a built in thing ith thai women. At least many many of them. I am jut one of these statistics. It was a horrible experience. If your gal didn't call you, then there is a reason and just take care of yourself. Personally I wish I had never gone to meet my wife in the first place. It's been nothing but lies from her and her whole family since we met....Lies don't cut it with us westerners especially when the lies are so stupid and they expect you to belive it!...IT"S FOR YOUR MONEY!!!....that's all!!!...sorry, Mate but that's how it is. Don't fall in love with one!!...stay or go home!...Just my humble (experienced) opinion!

  20. These parents prefer their daughters to have unwanted pregnancies then?

No, they just don't want to encourage them to be having sexual relations before they are even out of school. By placing those machines in schools, this tell the kids that we know you can have sex now so use these!!. By not getting involved with this type personal thing and just teach reading, writing and arithmatic, then the kids can make thier own decisions with thier parents hopefully giving the right upbringing about this. Thuis is not supposed to be part of the corriculum. This is just a start of a slippery slope of government interference in places they should have no business. This is to be learned from their parents and of course the streets :rolleyes:as we all did.

Placing machines encourages kids to have sex, not abstain until they are older....think about it! kids aren't stupid! They will do what they want anyway and can get condoms anywhere if that is what they want to do.....they don't need the education system encouraging this!!!.....This happened even in USA and I think now some 6th graders have them in schools....stupid left wing dumb decisions. Thailand is just following suit with that stupid thinking that they are smarter than the parents and doing good...but in actualaity it is promoting it! ...This is just not the business that any school should be involved with!!....soon meth dispensers with be there because the meth the governent can supply would be safer that the street Yabba....on and on...

  21. First. There are principally two kinds of visas:

    • Visitor, 6 month, 1, 2, 5 and 10 years yet you are only entitled to spend six months out of any 12 in the UK.
    • Settlement, intended for the purpose of moving and settling in the UK, cost a lot more and the process is more long winded, you need the TB and A1 English tests before moving to the UK.

Go for the Visitor Visa It is highly unlikely she will get anything more than a six month visitor visa until she has had a few, also even with a one year or more visa she still could not spend more than 6 months out of any 12 in the UK, but the visa holder can come and go as many times as they wish during the life of the visa as long as they leave before it expires and do not exceed more than 6 months in any 12 in the UK.

Yes you will have to go through the whole process of reapplying, hope you kept the folder.

I think a lot of people here get so wound up with whether to get married in the UK or Thailand, lets look at it this way there are three parts to a wedding, the legal part where you sign on the dotted line, a ceremony/blessing and a party.

    • Legal you can really only do this once does not really matter whether in Thailand or UK though if planning to settle in the UK it probably cheaper in Thailand.
    • Ceremony/blessing can be done as many time as you want, sure your local vicar/priest will marry you again if that is what you want (without signing the register), do not see much point in going to the registry office, but you could think of going to the local temple or inviting round the Abbott and a few monks for a blessing or even think of a humanist wedding http://www.humanism....manist-weddings followed by a party.

Hmm, this is a thai wife and she wants to get another legal marriage in your country now even though you are already married.

Ok, try and think of all the reasons she might want a legaly binding contract in the Uk too....gee, I'm not sure if that one is easy to figure out. I would ask her ok but you will just do a ceromony for show in the UK and see what she says.......then you have your answer as to why!!! ......anyone else agree?

Let me explain- if you marry in the Uk and then later get divored she will have all the legal bindings of Uk law and will be able to grab half of you belonging you owned BEFORE you were maried and then she can return to Thailand with half of everything.

If your marriage was done in Thailand then thier laws are such that what you both owned prior to marriage you still keep.....understand now??.....always remember and never forget the bottom line for many many thai/falang marriages. Remember the man that lost most of everything he had in the UK a couple months ago?...she ended up with most of everything plus half of his pension and he ended up having to pay for her lawyer because he signed the "afidavit of support"....There is only one reason she wants this done........money!!!

sorry to be a fly in the iontment but think hard before stticking your neck out so far!
