  1. The example you quote above involves young people, 18 and 17. Impressionable, vulnerable perhaps. There is reason for the law to be involved, especially if one or some of the parties involved are still legally not considered adults. But Bourdain was a man of the world, been through a lot: addiction, success, fame, marriages. My point being he should really have been able to take the breakdown of another relationship. His own mother said about his suicide: 'He is absolutely the last person in the world I would ever have dreamed would do something like this.' According to the article below there was more than one factor involved in his suicide. Six Years On: Wrestling with Anthony Bourdain’s Suicide | by James Penner | Medium
  2. Merz on Monday issued a rare rebuke to Israel, warning that "if lines are crossed, where international humanitarian law is really being violated, then Germany, the German chancellor, must also say something about it." "Frankly, I no longer understand the Israeli army's actions in the Gaza Strip or what their goal is," he said. "Causing such suffering to the civilian population, as has been increasingly the case in recent days, can no longer be justified by the fight against Hamas terrorism." Israel aid up for debate, says Germany's Merz amid arms embargo calls
  3. “The Senate is prepared either way,” the 69-year-old Lindsey Graham wrote. “I have coordinated with the White House on the Russia sanctions bill since its inception. The bill would put Russia on a trade island, slapping 500% tariffs on any country that buys Moscow’s energy products.” “The consequences of its barbaric invasion must be made real to those that prop it up. If China or India stopped buying cheap oil, Mr. Putin’s war machine would grind to a halt,” Graham said. Lindsey Graham tells WSJ he's willing to act without Trump to end 'thug' Putin
  4. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has warned the Israeli government not to use accusations of anti-Semitism to pressure Berlin amid mounting German criticism of Israel's conduct in Gaza. The German government's fight against anti-Semitism and its full support for Israel's right to exist "must not be exploited for the conflict, for the warfare that is currently being waged in the Gaza Strip," Wadephul said at a conference in Berlin. "Despite all the difficulties that exist there, we as the German government will not allow ourselves to be put under political pressure and put in a position where we have to show forced solidarity," he said. No 'forced solidarity' with Israel, says German foreign minister
  5. The UN's top human rights official, Volker Türk, has said that Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip are no longer covered by the principle of self-defence under international law. We are talking about "an expulsion that is highly, highly questionable," Türk said on Austrian radio, referring to the effect of the war on the civilian population. "What we have witnessed in recent months has nothing to do with respect for the fundamental principles of humanity," said Türk, who holds the title of UN high commissioner for human rights, "You can't really find any more words to describe what is happening." UN: Israel ignoring 'fundamental principles of humanity' in Gaza
  6. She couldn't believe such a handsome man would be eating alone. Your posee of girlfriends must be powdering their noses in The Ladies before joining you.
  7. It could only work if you had a super clean police force and judiciary, otherwise suspects could be threatened with death unless they handed over brown envelopes.
  8. Far too many Thais have problems with gambling already, it's madness and evil in my view to add to the availability of this insidious vice. Those who propose such casinos only think of money, not the social consequences, shame on them for their moral bankruptcy.
  9. You'll have to wait a few years as Banged Up episodes always include the part where the protagonist, full of regret at his/ her stupid past actions, has got back to Blighty post release.
  10. Several airports in Russia suspended operations overnight on Tuesday amid drone attacks from Ukraine, reports say. The arrivals and departures of civilian aircraft were restricted at the airports of Nizhny Novgorod, Saratov, Tambov and Kaluga, according to Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency. Over the past few days, Russian authorities shut down airports in Moscow twice, on Friday and Sunday, amid Kyiv’s drone raids into Russian territory. Several Russian airports suspend operations over Ukrainian drone raids
  11. More idiots. When finally back in Blighty, cancel their passports for 10 years on the grounds of stupidity
  12. Thousands of Israelis have joined a state-funded march through the Muslim quarter of the Old City in Jerusalem, where large groups chanted racist slogans including “Gaza is ours”, “death to the Arabs” and “may their villages burn”. The annual march, paid for and promoted by the Jerusalem city government, celebrates Israel’s capture and occupation of East Jerusalem and its holy sites in the war of 1967. The Israeli takeover is not recognised internationally. The Jerusalem municipality advertises the event, known as the flag march, as a “festive procession”, part of a broader programme of events celebrating the “liberation” of the city. 13. Political action committee VoteVets spent Memorial Day targeting the administration of President Donald Trump over significant cuts it imposed at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). "Gutting VA will result in delayed appointments and substandard care, leading directly to more veteran deaths. In fact, as reports and internal documents now prove, Elon Musk's wrecking ball is causing systems to fail, putting veterans at risk," said Kayla Williams, Iraq Veteran and senior policy advisor at VoteVets, in a post on X. In addition to cutting agency contracts, Newsweek reports administration officials are reducing the VA workforce by 82,000 staffers, which is nearly 20 percent of the agency. 'Slap in the face': Veterans group shreds Trump VA cuts on Memorial Day
  14. Trump- ' Why shouldn't I accept a gift? We're giving to everyone else.'
  15. Trump really is a child in a game that's only for adults. No coherent strategy, lashing out at straightforward questions from reporters, he's a complete embarrassment. And now you have the Russians talking to him as an upset child. There, there, Donald, have another diet coke. Responding to Trump’s remarks on Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia was grateful for American efforts to bring peace, which have included the first direct peace talks in three years. He said negotiations are at “a decisive moment that is linked to emotional overloading for everyone and emotional reactions”. Kremlin accuses Trump of 'emotional overloading' as US President says Putin 'has gone absolutely CRAZY!'
  16. Love her quote- ' If you give the Russians a carrot, they either eat it or hit you over the head with it.' Asked by The Sunday Telegraph about Trump's performance, she minced no words. She said: "Terrible. Let's give him a pass for effort." She added: "What Trump is doing is answering the wrong exam question. He thinks it's just about real estate, about trade and who gets what, be it minerals, land or rare earths." Donald Trump's former advisor issues brutal verdict on Vladimir Putin phone call
  17. Western allies are not imposing any range restrictions on the use of long-range weapons delivered to Ukraine against Russian military targets, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Monday. "There are no longer any restrictions on the range of weapons delivered to Ukraine, neither by the UK, France, nor us. There are no restrictions by the US either," he said during a discussion forum organised by the public broadcaster, WDR. Western allies lift Ukraine's restrictions on long-range weapons, says Merz
  18. Last night, the Russian army used the largest number of drones against Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. This demonstrates that Russia is not willing to cease fire, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy says. "This does not make any significant military sense, but it does make significant political sense. In this way, Putin demonstrates how much he despises the world, which spends more effort on dialogue with him than on pressure," Zelenskyy said. 'Putin despises the world': Zelenskyy reveals details of Russia’s largest attack on Ukraine
  19. CAIRO (Reuters) -Hamas has agreed to a proposal by U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff for a Gaza ceasefire, a Palestinian official close to the group told Reuters on Monday, paving the way for a possible end to the war with Israel. "The proposal includes the release of ten living Israeli hostages held by Hamas in two groups in return for a 70-day ceasefire and a partial withdrawal from the Gaza Strip," the source said. The proposal also sees the release of a number of Palestinian prisoners by Israel, including hundreds serving lengthy prison terms. Hamas agrees to US proposal on Gaza ceasefire, Palestinian official says
  20. About half of the NSC’s 350 staff was shown the door last Friday. The firings were described as “abrupt”, with no notice provided to the scores of seasoned foreign policy and defence experts caught up in the President’s maw. An email landed in their inboxes at 4.30pm announcing that their service was no longer required by the White House. For the moment at least, they are being transferred to other branches of Trump’s far-flung government. Trump’s ‘deep state’ jobs massacre has left US foreign policy a one-man show
  21. I was glad to see Jatuporn turn his back on Thaksin and finally admit Thaksin never gave a monkey's for democracy, but to join hands with Sonthi, a right wing firebrand? A bit like Diane Abbot joining hands with Farage. Pass the sick bag, Alice.
  22. According to Gwynne Dyer, Israel's plan for the expulsion of the Palestinians from Gaza is now clear. 1. No food is to be allowed into Gaza. This has already taken place since early March. 2. Starving, the Palestinians will be forced south to a small piece of land near the Egyptian border. Minimal food (Netanyahu's words) will be provided there, controlled by the Israelis. This stage is beginning now. Starving, the Palestinians will cross the border into Egypt, leaving Gaza free for the Israelis and/or Trump to do as they see fit. 3. However, Egypt, fully aware of Israel's intentions will seal the border, preventing any Palestinians from crossing. With minimal food and 2 million people there, the death toll from disease and hunger could soon reach 1000 people a day. 4. Israel's closest friends and allies will condemn Israel, (already started) , even Trump who claims to hate seeing or reading about casualties of war, may act. 5. Israel may become an international pariah. Israel's deadly strategy to clear Gaza will make it pariah | London Free Press
  23. Apart from Trump being the last person in the world to realise Putin has been playing him, he's also flipflopped on the sudden 50% tariff imposition on the EU. What a sad joke he is turning out to be: 'What a joke': Trump ridiculed on social media after he 'backs down' from threat Economist Justin Wolfers said, "Friday's EU tariff announcement lasted nearly the whole weekend, or 18% of a Scaramucci." Republicans against Trump wrote, "Trump backs down from his EU tariff threat. Again." "What a clown show," the group added.
  24. While all eyes are on Gaza, another war is being fought for control of Jerusalem. Hundreds of Israeli police officers mobilised Monday for Jerusalem Day, commemorating the city's total conquest by Israel in 1967. It’s an opportunity for Israeli nationalists to reaffirm their hold on the city – and, increasingly, for scenes of violence against Palestinians in the Old City in occupied East Jerusalem. ‘A notice of imminent destruction’: Israel’s home demolitions in East Jerusalem reach record numbers | Watch
  25. Israeli strikes killed at least 40 people in the Gaza Strip on Monday, including 25 in a school-turned-shelter that was struck as people slept, igniting their belongings, according to local health officials. The military said it targeted militants operating from the school. The strike on the school in the Daraj neighborhood of Gaza City also wounded more than 55 people, said Fahmy Awad, head of the ministry’s emergency service. He said a father and his five children were among the dead. Israeli strikes kill 40 in Gaza, including 25 in a school-turned shelter, medics say
