  1. any recommendations on accommodations that I can get for 10 - 14 days below 10,000baht with decent furniture, room service, clean etc? i will prefer a location close to Avenue Pattaya.

Yes - in my experience (I lived in Thailand for 5 years now) Pattaya's incredibly quiet, for whatever reasons.. next month or so will be the lowest of traveling season until October where it shall be busy busy busy.

  2. Hi Endure, thanks for your posting - it's very constructive and gives me an idea on how to proceed forward. I shall try to contact some Taiwanese companies.

I'm a Malaysian (I should say Singaporean) and I'm communicate well in English, Mandarin and Thai language.

  3. I think I understand now, it'll be at my own risk if I were to work as a tour guide (it was in my every intention to be legal) and also, get a license whenever possible. I don't think I will qualify for those vocational schools because the studies is in thai language.

    To Nisa:

I do know for sure if the customers paid abroad, and the person is in contact in Thailand - it's not considered working. It's like a accompanied tour guide from the foreign counterpart to "accompany" this group in Thailand (in my case).

I will not risk anything illegal and will take a look first.

  4. I should check out the facilities available at the IDC while you're at it.

I understand there are some nice Nigerian and Pakistani gentleman there who offer internships.

What's IDC? I don't think I will qualify with those folks, I'm seeking mandarin group tours really.

  5. I'm understand a good deal about the local attractions etc., the traveling agencies normally have a translated version of the brochure and I shall memorize the brochures and combine them with my knowledge. I've been in Thailand for pretty long, I know Bangkok and Pattaya very well but not else where. I shall check to see if there's internships in those agencies, it will not be this easy I know.

  6. Oh My God, it sounds like I can just approach any agencies and see if they are willing to use my services! That sounds too easy and too good to be true, I was anticipating further training of a year or so- and internships at the basic level.

I do think foreigner tour guides are more appropriate for taiwanese, china market - I have never met a single thai who can speak really good Mandarin. A small handful who can speak good english.

I shall get some local mandarin papers and see if there're local agencies.

  7. Hello,

I am seeking information on how to become a tour guide in Thailand. Is there any course that I need to take (and requirements for it)? I desperately seek a new career change.

I speak fluent Mandarin, English and good Thai

(I hope I'm posting in the right thread, I don't know where to post)

    Kind Thoughts,

    Sun

  8. I am very interested in working as a tour guide especially those that manages group tours (particularly taiwan groups). I don't have any qualification but I have strong rationale and knowledge of local culture, customs and places of attractions (bangkok and pattaya) - I will do more research on them if there's an itinerary. can someone give me advise on how to proceed? Please PM me or, call me (0811132814) for more information.

  9. The Export Outlets carries limited large size clothes (not trousers) which is all around town, in the suburbs.. I am not sure in the city because I seldom see them in MBK and, I don't know Sukhumvit well. I seen them near Victory Monument BTS where they have big signs of XXXXXXL size available (which should be beside the movie mall place towards the city).

  10. I want to start playing bowling, was interested in getting a ball at Fashion Island, Ram Inthra but was quoted 4,500Baht which is a little expensive when I asked for the cheapest type (there's a small sticker beneath that ball that says 2,000B was worried that they are ripping me off). Any guides on buying the balls?

  11. Anyone know any other transport other then TAXI that would go from Air-Port To Pattanagan Street?

You can take the Airport Rail Link (ARL) City Line to Ramkhamhaeng station. This station is pretty much right at the start of Pattankarn Road. You'll probably have to take a taxi from there to your final destination though.

I think you won't save alot of money this way, the airport link is expensive + the fact you will need a fresh taxi meter once you arrive. Considering the distance between airport to Pattanakarn, Taxi will be better. I will have a different suggestion if you stay Phaholyothin and beyond (towards the west?)

  12. I have problems going onto the Facebook website, is it blocked?

    It's re-directed to a site that says:

    “ขออภัยในความไม่สะดวก

    According to Google Translate:

  13. ...Rangsit, Fashion island and Chaeng wattana - all within 20 minutes of minivan/ bus rides if there're no traffic.

Which means plan on 45 minutes any day other than Songkran and New Years. I think the area is a fine suggestion, but don't mislead the poor fellow.

Depends on the time :-) I go to these places daily, 20-30 mins is average traveling time. Plus i said I am living and I don't recommend. Please open your eyes and read. Cheers.
