  1. Sure? https://news.un.org/en/story/2022/04/1115782#:~:text=The UN General Assembly adopted,in favour and 24 against. OK, it's the UNHRC that they have been suspended from.
  2. if it's a Thai crab it will probably walk backwards, round in circles, going nowhere!
  3. You need to avoid putting any pressure on the operated eye for at least a few days so yes, you should not sleep on that side. I was also told to wear an eye shield for a month - probably to avoid any inadvertent rubbing of the eye. Sleeping on the opposite side to normal didn't come naturally but it had to be done. The eye shield was a right PITA! Can you not sleep on your back? Anyway, no problem for you when you have your left eye done - presumably you are having both eyes done? - as you can then sleep on your right side, as normal.
  4. This one works quite well <https://www.wunderground.com/> Has radar, wind speed, etc.
  5. I was told by my surgeon that advanced cataracts tend to be denser and need more ultrasonic power and time to break them up. This was certainly my experience - my left eye was worse than my right and the surgeon did take quite a long time to complete the removal of the cataract. Right eye took maybe 15 minutes - left eye took 20 minutes or more. Both eyes now good.
  6. Yes, remarkable isn't it! I thought that my floor tiles were green but no, they are actually blue!
  7. This has probably been asked before but what actually constitutes 'fully vaccinated'? Is a '2-jab' status considered to be fully vaccinated - maybe depends on the type of vaccine, I suppose - or is it necessary to have had at least one booster? What about the timing - how long after your last jab are you still considered to be vaccinated?
  8. I think probably just finger trouble on my part when using the TTB app. Anyway, zero balance at the moment so I'll see if things look normal next month. TOT merged with National Telecomm - or something like that - so they are now the same company, I think. My e-bill has NT on the header but says TOT on the actual statement. Only slightly confusing!
  9. OK, ignore my last post. I checked with my bank and it seems that, for whatever reason, two payments to NT TOT were made last month. As the monthly amounts are usually the same I effectively have nothing to pay this month so the zero balance is correct.
  10. Just received my monthly e-bill from NT TOT. The e-bills normally have a QR Code and Bar Code that can be scanned by my TTB Bank app for the purpose of paying the outstanding balance. This month, both QR and Bar Codes are missing from the bill! Furthermore, if I go onto the NT TOT internet site, there seems to be no outstanding balance. This is odd. Do we not have to pay, this month, and maybe pay for two months' balance next month? No point in taking the bill to 7-11 as they will have nothing to scan either! Anyone know what's going on?
  11. I've just - in the last seven weeks - had both my eyes done at Jomtien Hospital. The second eye has its final examination next Friday - not expecting anything adverse as all seems fine. It will be good to get off the eye drops! As for the procedure itself, I can't say that it was exactly a relaxing experience - I was a bit surprised that no sedation was offered - but there was no pain and only minimal discomfort. It takes about 20 minutes and my head was not restrained. The eye is immobilized, of course - not sure exactly how this is done - and is numbed with anaesthetic drops beforehand. Post-op you use antibiotic eye drops for a month and also corticosteroid drops for a while to alleviate any corneal swelling.
  12. Thanks to those who replied. We'll probably give Pepper & Salt a try as it's almost on our doorstep. We have been there before - food was good but there was a lot of traffic noise that detracted from the experience somewhat.

    Lamb Chops

The Missus is pining for lamb chops - in a restaurant - so I am looking for recommendations on Pattaya Dark Side. Anyone had any good experiences - good, juicy chops or cutlets? Please help!
  14. Photochromic varifocal glasses are also my plan. Have to wait a month or so for things to settle down first though. I have used varifocals before and found them very good. The trick is in finding an optician who knows how to specify the lenses correctly. I went through a couple of iterations before managing to get a pair that really worked for all distances. I found that with the cheaper options the field of view was rather restricted and this made them unsuitable for computer use. I was recommended to see Dr. Maria at Euro Optical, in Pattaya - certainly not cheap but you get what you pay for and she provided an excellent service. Frames and lenses came from Rodenstock (Germany) and were perfect for my needs. I'll be going back for my new pair when the time comes.
  15. I have tried to avoid the Bangkok Group Hospitals in the past, for the reasons that you say. I was, however, pleasantly surprised with Jomtien Hospital - same group but much more reasonably priced for cataract surgery, at the moment, and I think that the 'special offer' runs throughout this year. Whether or now the offer also applies to non-cataract surgery I cannot say. The procedure should be the same, surely. I had cataract surgery on my second eye, yesterday, and the results have been very good. Acceptable vision already and this will improve as the eye settles down. My surgeon was Khun Jittapan Chureeganon so it may be worthwhile you talking to him. I did discuss multifocal lenses with him and I'm sure that he could fit those if you really wanted them. Be aware though that they can be problematic and are 2-3 times more expensive than single vision lenses - in the region of 100,000 Baht per eye at Jomtien, compared to 39,000 Baht for the single vision lenses that I paid. I know that the attraction of multi-focus lens surgery is that it obviates the need for spectacles - which is OK if it actually works properly. There is definitely an increased risk of not working fully, in which case you would still need to wear specs, or contact lenses. Specs can be a PITA but if you have been wearing them for 30+ years, as I have, this becomes rather less of an issue.
  16. Jittapan Chureegnon, M.D. is the surgeon who is fixing my eyes at Jomtien.
  17. Interestingly, Jomtien Hospital, where I am in the midst of having cataract surgery - one eye done and one to go - is actually part of the Bangkok Hospital Group but, for some reason, seem to have a different pricing policy and are much more reasonable. My ophthalmic surgeon works at both places. I was actually sent to the main Bangkok Hospital in Pattaya to have a thorough eye examination and for the replacement lenses to be specified. The cost for this was additional to the 39,000 Baht surgical cost but still very reasonable at about 1500 Baht. The RT-PCR pre-op tests were free. I've just had my second one today, prior to my upcoming surgery on Friday.
  18. I'm just in the middle of having my cataracts done. Last month I had a lens replacement done at Jomtien hospital, Pattaya, and am scheduled to have my second eye seen to this Friday. So far, things have gone well and the vision in my right eye is now excellent - and hopefully my left eye will be OK as well. I have opted for standard lenses, having read that multi-focal lenses can give problems. I will need reading glasses but that doesn't bother me, having worn glasses for 30+ years anyway. Judging from how the first eye has turned out, I may not not need to wear glasses for computer use. The cost per eye at Jomtien is 39,000 Baht - they currently have a special offer on cataract surgery. The op on my first eye was carried out as an outpatient, as will be the second op. I have no complaints at all - everything was done very professionally. I had some post-op corneal swelling after the first op but this subsided after a few days. I think that cataracts tend to creep up on you and you don't realize just how much your vision has deteriorated. The comparison between my left and right eyes is quite remarkable - the right eye has full colour vision while the left sees things in shades of murky yellow! Getting regular eye checks is very important - best to have the cataracts removed before things get really bad.
  19. Agreed. I could never get the old site to work because of new passport after last entry issues. The new site works fine for me - got my approved status yesterday, 24 hours after submitting the application. 'Pending' status happened immediately - and I got an email with a TM47 acknowledgement. 'Approved' status came by email, with a printable slip attachment for inclusion in my passport. Both TM 47 and slip are also available on the website and can be downloaded from there.
  20. Yes, you need to turn off your VPN. Site is working - submitted my report this morning. Status now 'Pending' as expected.
  21. Well, the new 90-day reporting system seems to be working rather well. I used it successfully for my last report and today I received an email reminding me that my next report is due before 07 March. I'll submit it later this week and , hopefully, it will work OK.
  22. I get the Amazon ones as well and nowadays quite a lot offers for Viagra and Cialis. Mt SPAM filter is very good at sorting out the dodgy stuff - just check the SPAM box once a day in case anything genuine ends up in there. Rarely happens.
  23. Well, sorting out the PayPal problem was not difficult but, of course, this has not stopped the phishing attempts that I seem to get on a regular basis. The latest one was today - telling me that my account was locked, which it isn't, of course! A quick check on the real PayPal site - not the link provided in the phishing email - will tell you if there is a problem.
