  1. As someone who's been forced to tack up the Hamble by sail many moons ago do remember (I’m sure u know well) that engines can fail. So the anchor needs to be ready to chuck, with plenty of chain/rope so it will hit the bottom at a low angle and catch hold.
Sure I’m reminding my grandma to suck eggs.
    Do keep us posted.

  2. I couldn't figure out why Retirement non O renewal should not (we were first told) require insurance/whatever when OA DID require it. Just occurred to me non-O has the 800k deposit whereas OA does not. This deposit alone should cover the vast majority of medical events, maybe that's it.

I'd also note this seems to be happening because of a shortfall of 300mbaht in unpaid bills.

This is frankly a trifling amount compared to the potential disruption/extra IO work/complications of running an insurance scheme.........things that could potentially lose Thailand revenue from disgruntled expats.

The whole amount could be covered with a mere few hundred baht increase in processing fees for long stayers at immigration.

    Sorry to swerve your topic.

  3. I hesitate to put my spoke in here but here goes.

We own quite a few properties in our own country including the equivalent of several condos in various buildings.

in a country with strict building standards and force of rational law they are a pain in the butt and a constant concern.

We have looked at buying in Phuket for over 20 years. Never ever would we do it. Seen too many problems, too many shoddy buildings, heard of too many scams and dodgy lawyers. You have no way of understanding and working with the Thai legal system.

We happily rent, paying an exorbitant rent to live in the apartment we want, and are happy that we have no skin in the game when we see the shoddy painting, the ridiculous repairs and the rude and unhelpful staff.

As an experienced and successful property owner, Thailand property in any form would be a nightmare.

I’ve never had a serious problem.......and never paid a lawyer to convey a condo, it’s easy.

One can't expect perfection when paying a relative pittance for property, but foresight and research usually avoids problems.

  4. I arrived to queue at 5.10 am earlier this month and was number 32 !   at 8.30 was told to come back in the afternoon.  I went back at 1 pm and was out by 3.30 !    The queue started before 2 am,  avoid CM immigration if possible !

Anyone arriving later than 6 am is unlikely to get a queue number for that day.

You also need the previous extension pages, last re-entry stamp and 90 day appointment copies from your passport.

Thanks for that it sounds like very bad news.
I went to Imm. On the way into CM after writing my query above.
The guy checked my stuff and reminded me of a photo, 6x4cm.
I said my wife had a couple from last year.
I said what’s the latest I can come to be safe.
He said 8am same as the guy last week. Student trainee types but quite confident.
    Go figure.

Ps I have Parkinson’s and get tired standing do I have to bring my own chair?
Pps photo wife gave me deffo less then 6x4cmshe said well it worked last year. Would I be able to get a new set round the back if needed?
Ppps someone mentioned a QCode last week I forgot to ask about it anyone know?

    Hi

    Visa extension based on retirement.

Two weeks ago my wife went to Promenada and was told one was OK arriving by 8am when the staff come.

I decided to ask someone who helps about queueing etc to wait for me and organise the appointment for me,

We arranged to apply tomorrow Thursday......last stamp runs out Friday.

Last night she told me she found out other people cannot queue now.

She said she would get the first number and could I be there at 730am.

I said I may as well do alone .....what time must I arrive at immigration.

    She said 4am!!!

Can anyone clear it up and let me know the latest I can safely arrive.

    I have my passport

letter from bank from last Friday with funds 800k

    will update bank book today

    1 photo

is that all I need ?

    Thanks!!!!!

The tortuous process in Chiang Mai to obtain an extension of stay suggests that you may best be served by using an agent.  Otherwise, plan on showing up at or before 2AM to gain a seat in the line that will eventually allow you to get a queue number for your extension.  Even then, there are no guarantees that you will be “early enough” for success.  Some consider agents to be expensive.  I’d rather pay for the service than subject myself, or a paid “seat sitter” to the ordeal.  But, as always....  “Up to you!”

Wife has organised a couple of times for a workmate to earn a little by picking up number quite early.......but never 2am!.....maybe 7.30?.....then returning to get the proper number about 9. Then i went later in the day for the estimated time.

Last time I was told it's all improved and I think it was 8.30 was said to be OK to turn up.

So I did it myself bit of a pain but no big deal.

I would consider an agent but one still has to turn up anyway.....

  7. Hi there

    Chiangmai.

My due date to get a retirement extension is Sept 28th 2018.

I've never done it by appointment before, but kinda remembered that one needed to be online applying at midnight 100 days before  (still correct?)

So I went to CM Immigration website a couple days ago to look for the procedure........but could not find it.

Looking at the calendar it looks like today is 99 days from the 28th Sept.

    1. Are these appointments still available and where do I find the online application?

    2. Is it still all "sold out" very soon after midnight of the 100th day before?

    3. If still available, do i have 5 or 7 days grace after my due date so can make appointment for a few days AFTER 28th Sept without breaking the rules?

Thanks so much to those who are experts and help twits like me!

  8. HomePro sells several varieties of plastic mesh and chicken wire. I tried a plastic kind, but it fell apart in the sunshine. My second try was a one-inch metal mesh. It's green, so not bad-looking. It's been in place a couple of years now, doing the trick. Don't forget the zip ties for fastening it to the railings.

Ive had regular cheap netting up and in the sun for years now.
It’s white but ive since realised that.......counterintuitively......black mosquito screen is less visible from inside than white. But the white's fine, not intrusive.

Addendum: (after looking at some other posts):

Turmeric contains only 2-3% curcuminoids.  If you get straightCurcumin rather than Turmeric from a bulk supplier, and an ultrasonic cleaner (like they use for jewelry), then you can mix it with your preferred oil (I like cold pressed coconut since we're in Thailand, but olive oil, avacado oil, lecithin etc will all do), and you can get straight curcumin up to the 12-13% absorbtion level.  Easy cheap and simple, and you can take a shot glass a day or whatever you choose.

There are some good capsules on the market, but as has been said here it gets expensive to get a decent dose.  People will still buy them.  I found that showing people how to do things doesn't always convince them, and they say "I'd rather just buy it and know that it's done properly" (not trusting themselves), so I started a supplements company and made some 'handsum' money, at the same time as telling people how to do it on the cheap.  They still bought though, almost as if they felt they owed a debt to repay for how things helped them.  Curious psycholigy, like people robbing banks to buy things honestly - why not just cut out the middle man if that's your leaning?  I don't have an answer for that one.

Yes when I said "Good deal" last page i thought it was $9.95 for 120 caps of full strength curcumin.....but that was just the shipping.

I use the Curcumin/tumeric powder form on my cereal. Buy it bulk at Macro. As said you can purchase capsules and make them up your self.

For Niacin I get it from iHerb in the states. inexpensive and if you keep your orders around$40 no duty on them. Right to your door delivery. Never looked there for the Curcumin/turmeric.

Hi John you using CM Macro?

Could you send a pic of the packet and maybe which section so I can look for?

    Thx
