  1. It`s from the 2013 movie, Only God Forgives.

Type; Only God Forgives 2013, into Google search and all will be revealed.

As a symbol of some kind, it means nothing.

Oh boy, after googling it I actually have seen that crappy movie. I must have fallen asleep while watching it since I still can't recall seeing that symbol.

  2. Good one mate! There are so many changes in the beer industry in Thailand and not too many people talk about it. I would say there are radical changes.

Chang Classic dropped its alcohol level below 6% , it is not the same beer.

To add almost all local breweries reduced the amount of beer in the bottles. It is not 640 ml as it used to be, but it is 630 ml.

Furthermore strong beers reduced their alcohol levels. Red Cheers and Red Horse are 6 % now, so Chang Classic lost its position as a strong beer by dropping below 6%.

Archa had quite a journey. From 5.4% they dropped it to 4.9% (why on Earth would you drink beer less than 5 %?). I guess they got it when people lost interest in Archa. By increasing its alcohol content to 5 % Archa might gain some interest from people because it is less expensive than the other beers in its category (Leo for example with 5% is 10 Baht more expensive).

There is no cheap beer anymore in Thailand. It became ridiculously expensive in proportion to the local people income. I am going to try the new Archa in the near future and I am going to post again. From what I've seen the looks of Archa labels changed to better.

Finally, somebody who also knows his beer.

  3. Batons, brass knuckles, tasers, mace, guns, knives, and self defense lessons are BS. Go Google it:

Forget what you see on TV or read about in men's health magazines. With a whopping 75% success rate, compared with the all the costly aforementioned self defense systems combined, statistically, your best bet in surviving a serious scenario is to

... Scream and run in the opposite direction.

  4. Translation services are disgustingly unprofessional in Bangkok, it seems they are willing to officially recognize just about anybody who speaks the slightest bit of the foreign language . I speak German and English fluently but the Embassy insisted on an officially stamped translation. I paid 600thb for them to translate one German document into English. After reading it, not only did I find multiple mistakes, but some sentences which were supposed to represent one thing, were actually translated into the exact opposite! Turning a recommendation into a questionable reason for doubt.

Needless to say, I contacted the German embassy and provided both documents for them to translate. Afterwards I sued the translation company. These were very important legal documents where a single mistake could prove to be disastrous. It took 3 months and I only got 300k out of it, but at least they all had their licenses revoked and will never work in the translation business again.

Best tip I can give you when translating important documents is: Let your embassy handle it. It takes longer, but your documents are being translated by somebody employed by the government, having studied for at least four years, and passed a state exam. As opposed to a Thai wannabe who studies the language over the weekend, has no degree, never passed an exam and probably got his certificate through the help of the company and some connections.

Sorry for the long reply, but the experience I had disgusts me to this very day.

  5. It always amazes me when people compare beer notes and rate the one with the highest alcohol content as "the best." Reminds me of my friend back in the States that would get all excited whenever he found some new brand with an ever higher alcohol content. His company, FedEx, spent $50,000 on his rehab several years ago and he's been on the wagon ever since.

I used to like to drink Lucky Lager because it was cheap and had only a little more alcohol than water. I could drink a case of the stuff without falling on my lips and pissing all over myself. Great on a hot day. Also had some great pictorial puzzles inside the bottle caps.

The only reason I drink beer is to... get drunk. So price vs Alc% is an issue for me. As for your friend: Moderation is the key. Learn your limits and stay within them. I always drink before going to bed and I haven't had a hangover since New Year's.

  6. Cheers Extra went down from 46 to 44 like one year ago. Then in April (?) the price was raised from 44 to 47. Are you telling me it's 44 again?

Also, there have always been twin packs of Cheers Extra. Not in Family Mart, but in selected Seven Elevens.

Are you talking red or blue ?

Red. But blue is even cheaper than red now.

  7. As all the other posters have stated: Take a Taxi and make sure they use the meter.

Non metered taxi's overcharge you anywhere from 50 to even 100thb.

Tuk-Tuk prices can be negotiated but they're far more expensive than Taxi's. I only use them in locations that are devoid of Taxi's and motorbikes and only let them drive me to the nearest busy road.
