Elon Musk joined Dave Chappelle on stage Sunday in San Francisco, home of Twitter’s headquarters where the world’s richest person recently laid off many of its employees. It went about as well as you’d expect. The crowd at the Chase Center loudly booed Musk, who had spent much of the weekend wading into the culture wars, making transphobic statements and seemingly echoing QAnon tropes. Video of the incident at Sunday’s Chappelle show captured by people in attendance shows the controversial Twitter owner taking the stage and yelling Chappelle’s famous Rick James impression: “I’m rich, b***h.” https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/12/business/elon-musk-booed-dave-chappelle/index.html

NIF's target chamber is where the magic happens -- temperatures of 100 million degrees and pressures extreme enough to compress the target to densities up to 100 times the density of lead are created there. For the first time in history, US scientists at the National Ignition Facility at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California successfully produced a nuclear fusion reaction resulting in a net energy gain, a source familiar with the project confirmed to CNN. The US Department of Energy is expected to officially announce the breakthrough Tuesday. The result of the experiment would be a massive step in a decadeslong quest to unleash an infinite source of clean energy that could help end dependence on fossil fuels. https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/12/us/common-questions-nuclear-fusion-climate/index.html

The Canadian province of Quebec has passed a law making an oath of allegiance to the monarch optional for members of the legislature. The bill was introduced after the ascension of King Charles III, when three politicians refused to swear allegiance. In October, Canada's federal parliamentarians overwhelmingly voted no to severing ties with the Crown. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-63924746

The Artemis I mission — a 25½-day uncrewed test flight around the moon meant to pave the way for future astronaut missions — came to an momentous end as NASA’s Orion spacecraft made a successful ocean splashdown Sunday. The spacecraft finished the final stretch of its journey, closing in on the thick inner layer of Earth’s atmosphere after traversing 239,000 miles (385,000 kilometers) between the moon and Earth. It splashed down at 12:40 p.m. ET Sunday in the Pacific Ocean off Mexico’s Baja California. Rob Navias, the NASA commentator who led Sunday’s broadcast, called the reentry process “textbook.” https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/11/world/nasa-splashdown-artemis-i-orion-sunday-scn/index.html

Less than two weeks after Donald Trump hosted antisemitic rapper Kanye West and his white nationalist and Holocaust-denying pal Nick Fuentes at a Mar-a-Lago dinner, the former president said on Friday that Jewish leaders “should be ashamed of themselves” for their “lack of loyalty” to him. “How quickly Jewish leaders forgot that I was the best, by far, president for Israel,” Trump wrote on Truth Social after posting an op-ed from a far-right conspiracy theorist who said that Trump did more for Israel and the “Jewish people than anyone in history.” “This lack of loyalty to their greatest friends and allies is why large numbers in Congress, and so many others, have stopped giving support to Israel,” he added in his first public comment to the Jewish community since a deluge of criticism in the wake of the highly controversial dinner. https://www.yahoo.com/news/wake-shocking-dinner-trump-says-030327782.html
